Oh Jibid , I have greatly missed hearing your lovely voice and was so excited to see a new work of art from you! The concept of your journal can only come from a true artist - what a masterpiece! I reckon you are the only person out there that can create a journal about something slightly dark yet it radiates joy, admiration, and I love it! Much love my dear friend and hope all is well :)
Amity Bloom you have quite a.way with words sweetheart, it is so nice to hear appreciation like that, thankyou so much, for enjoying the videos and for giving so much inspiration yourself, you have lifted me xx
The way this journal is done is exquisite. There is no need to add so much stuff, but the simplicity of the pages, and the delicate details makes the journal unique😊🌸💕 thank you for this work of art!
Your books are so incredibly gorgeous, I can watch your videos again and again. You have such a soothing voice and presence and I love your sense of humor. I was watching this one for the umpteenth time and would like to tell you about the brothers Grimm. (Ok, I'll admit it, as a folklorist this has been niggling at me so I just can't help myself. Sorry). All of "their" fairytales were, in fact, collected. That's what "Grimms fairytales" are: A collection of stories written down from oral history. More or less. The Grimms did however edit them extensively according to what they believed was "proper" and a main source for the stories was their housekeeper, who may have also cleaned them up quite a bit for the delicate gents' ears. Again, love your work :)
Jibid, you have shown the light in the dark/scary Black Forest and have made it wondrous and magical. It's as if we are taking a stroll through the forest with you and you are talking us through it, to help us see for ourselves how magical it can be. I believe its your soft spoken voice that keeps us walking through the scary forest! The Journal is just magical! I love it.
Your journals are always so lovely and I love the themes/sentiments. Here in NY I live by a pine forest area - my backyard really. I love walking in there - it looks thick and foreboding on the edges but inside it's a magic place. There are many trails made by deer and other animals and it is quiet - but its special quiet - muffled even - but the cry of birds sounds amazing. It's not the Black Forest - which is a thing of my minds great magic - but it is a very special place full of imaginings just as vast. Thank you for bringing this to my mind as I watched and listened to your beautiful flip.
Jibid your journals are Devine and so wonderfully crafted.!! Your style changed me from mixed media to journaling. I wish I could paint like you do, it is a true talent that you have . All the best Annie
Kiwi Crafting hi annie, wow! That is such a lovely compliment, thankyou. It is always nice to try new things of course, and i am sure you will find room in your new journaling hobby for your mixed media skills, i hope you enjoy where the journey takes you, love from jibid x
You are a true artist ... I never want it to end ... I would love to be a fly on your wall to watch you create.. what a journey that would be ! Never stop being as dedicated as you are .. that’s what takes you a step above the best💜
As a kid I loved being in the woods, the moss, the mushrooms and ferns. Loved your fern print. (If you were talking about Hansel and Gretel, the poor witch was being vandalized, they were eating her home, she's the victim.) lol
I have been waiting for another journal of yours! You should think about us who are impatient and can't wait for more of your gorgeous work! lol! For me it is like watching a movie or something, always a good story and always something amazing to see! XX!
This book is so beautiful and so different from anything I've seen. Your papers are amazing and the book illustrations are perfectly mysterious 🍁 the way you edged the pages with foliage and botanical is just lovely!
Your talent absolutely knows no bounds and thank goodness for that! What a true visionary you are and such an inspiration! I dare say if you ever did decide to write a book (because you are also a wonderful storyteller) and wrapped it up in one of your journals, it would be a best seller!! ❤️💐
Absolutely love your journal. I had trouble hearing you and could not bring up the volume with the computer. Please keep making videos and thank you so much for sharing.
This is an incredibly beautiful book! I love that it is a darkly themed book yet not entirely dark throughout. Thank you so much for sharing the book! And the research you’ve done for the story of the theme and really searched for images. It’s got such a dark ominous feel yet there are sweet images at times too, princess, toadstools, and the gingerbread house. Extremely well done!
What amazing art work Jibid! You've got me eco dying now and I'm hooked, got a box full of the most interesting shapes and colors! I live near a heavy wooded area and was there the other day, and yes the absence of noise is deafening to me. I need to go back. Won't be roasting any of my kids in there tho-lol😁💌✨ how I love your work and your humor. Thank you!!
Ah, Jibid, I’m just rewatching your videos again. Im particularly drawn to the Black Forest journals. They call to me. Perhaps being enticed to step into a mysterious world, you may never find your way out of. A place so inundated with botanical life...yet not even a bird dares to make a peep. A hidden world that is so silent, even the sound of your own footsteps are swallowed up by the thick forest floor. You wonder if the forest itself is asleep or is it an empty memory forever frozen in time. A place that is so heavy with loneliness that even to those who fear them, the sight of a spider would be a welcome visitor. Even when skirting the edge, with the safety of a sun lit trail in plain sight...there seems always to be an ominous presence looming ...waiting....daring you to come a bit closer. Such a peculiar thing, the dark forests, I’m a field biologist. I’ve spent years crouched on the forest floor in silent observation. Forests are a thing of an almost unbearable beauty. There is never a shortage of life...an endless supply of wonder!! It seems so strange that there are some that are so hauntingly sad....yet those are the ones that mesmerize me the most. Perhaps one day, I’ll have the courage to step beyond the safety of sun. Until then, I’ll explore vicariously through your journals. Thank you. PS: at 14:26, you say the type of paper the crinkly envelopes are, but it crinkles over your voice and I can’t hear. Can you please mention what it is again?
Thanks so much Natalie, I really enjoyed reading your experience and observations. You must tell me more about being a field biologist, when you are in the mood one day. Feel free to email woolymum@yahoo.co.uk. the paper you asked about, I don't think I do actually say in the video, but looking at it I believe it is brown kitchen paper or kitchen parchment/baking paper, just scrunched up. Hugs, j
Part one has been an adventure through an area of the forest that I surely would prefer not to be in especially at night! 😉 I'm looking forward to continuing the journey ....
Ann Kathy thankyou Ann! You are right, even the friendliest forests are terrifying at night lol, I am such a wimp, with too much imagination - I end up scaring myself silly! X
I was so so excited to see you had a new video up 😍 what an incredible masterpiece! Wow you are an incredible artist 💜 it's beautifully made! Love the little mushrooms everywhere and maybe one day you could show us how to make a hand made stamp?! I just love love love your work. I really wish you lived closer I would love to come for a visit ☕️☺️ I just love you charm and inviting lovely voice 💖 love love love all your videos thank you xx
I love your journals! I was wondering if you have any tutorials on how to make your wonderful creations? I would love to see how you go about the process. Hugs, Jackie :)
Thankyou jackie, i only have 2 tutorials currently, one on my painted papers (plant impressions) and a paid one on book covers on my website, jibidneary.com, thankyou x
Such beautiful papers and so much imagination ! Great job ! I would be afraid that the foreign writing may be obscene and not know what it said ; would be my luck ! Love from South Carolina
Sharon Carroll lol Sharon! Let's hope not, from an early 1900's Russian book about mushrooms hehe, but you sure never know ;) thanks for watching sweetheart x
My goodness Jibid, this has sent shivers down my spine, in a good way though!.. You are just amazing, only you could pull this off ... It's nice to see you back .. p.s don't go out in the woods today, you're sure for a big surprise!! .. golly it sounded so spooky listening to you talk about the forest ... xox Fi
Hi jibid! Great detailed work, as always. I am absolutely inspired every time you upload. The bear carrying off the maiden may be a take on the Fairie Tale 'The Beauty and the Beast', where the Beast who is usually depicted as Leonine in nature, may also be shown rather as Ursine (?). Just my two cents. I also liked the beads at the bottom of the page at 21:32. They look like little toadstools shooting from the earthy brown page tones.
Reese DChatch thankyou so much Reese, ah yes, I'm sure you must be right about the bear, I will try to find it again for next time, thanks for that. I love the idea with the toadstools sticking up, they were reminding me of berries, but I like the toadstools better :)
Jibid Neary I had to comment again, you've always been so generous with sharing your ideas with us. I have one more, well, maybe two. Perhaps little capped/cupped (?) buttons could be used for the shroom heads and then glued within are frilly eyelash trim tips to mimic the roughness of the underside of the mushroom cap. Then more faded green eyelash trim on the page outline for grass.
Reese DChatch that sounds so cute! I have little idea too of painting the wooden beads, I will need to experiment it looks like, let's see what happens with the next woodland one ;)
So beautiful as always. I love listening to your stories that go with the journals.. I love the way you dye your paper. What do you use? I think I need to order one of your journals!!
your eco dying pages are so lovely. What kind of paper do you use for the printing. I went out gathering fall leaves the other day and ended up with a bad case of poisen oak. it was miserable. I would love to learn the eco dying with leaves.
I just love love hearing your stories and seeing what you’ve come up with. You’re so clever!!! How can I get one from you???? I’ve written before. I can only imagine the Queue of those waiting for the same! But also you must record your story so I may hear it as well. That’s part of it! If you have children they must have loved story time with their mum!!!! Would it help me if I pulled some sympathy strings!?! My birthday is is twelve days and a week after is our 45th wedding anniversary. Really tho you are such a grand artist anyway you look at it all! I’m trying to give it a go myself. My daughter in law loves Jane Austin. So for her birthday I want to do her a journal. Her favorite book is pride and prejudice. I want it junky and full but mostly fun. I’m trying now to collect some fun stuff and learn more about her as well. I got the idea after I found you over a year ago on you tube! Her birthday is oct. wish me luck! I’m no where as clever as you so I hope while I research I find some interesting stuff. It’s the stuff that makes them fun! Thanks for listening. Hope to hear from you!!!! Thanks, Gail
This is so incredible. You have inspired me to actually start. LOL. Seriously- I’ve watched every video of yours and it’s all such beautiful art. To sit and watch you put together a book must be fascinating. Please tell me what kind of paper you used. (The inside papers that are plain and tea stained) It sounds soft. I need a tutorial. 🤷🏼♀️😍
Hi Jibid. I just subscribed to your channel. This journal is breathtaking! I am so glad to have found your channel. I love the bear page, although bears are my recurring nightmare. Have you heard of the children’s book called The Bear That Heard Crying? It’s based on a true story from someone’s uncovered family genealogy of a 3-year-old girl who wandered into the woods in the 1700s and was mothered by a bear for several days. It’s amazing. Anyway, I love your work. It’s fantastic.
such beautiful art! can I ask one question please - I eco dye paper but I am curious as to how you get such soft images - mine are fairly strong and well defined.
Marriette Charlton hi marriette, thankyou so much, as you know, natural dyeing is never an exact science, especially eco dyeing, so many variables! If your issue is too strong images, I guess dont leave them in so long, and the types of leaves and how much natural colour and tannins they exude of course will make a difference. Also, not all of these are eco dyed, some are actually plant prints and transfers using inks at my desk. Sometimes I go over my ecodyed cloth again, to give a more layered effect over softer defined areas. It's all about experimentation! Wishing you happy crafting days, j x
i love this journal one of my favourites. How did u get the cover of the book velvety in texture because i tend to use matte medium for my covers over the top. is that fabric or just paint? please let me know thank you. lots of love
Suzanne Thomas yes, I'm afraid the sound is rubbish, still working on it. It is usually better through the PC speakers if that is an option for you Suzanne x
Its not my volume its my camera, however i was eventually able to afford a better phone camera so i think you will find my more recent videos more appealing. Thankyou for watching tho x
Victoria Fortunato Dear Victoria, thankyou for your comment. My journal is not ABOUT the Black Forest, but it is inspired by the dark side of EVERY forest, as I tried to explain. The Romans named it Silva Negra because it was darker and more intimidating than the forests they were accustomed to. My journal is to show this darkness is possible anywhere. I believe Every forest is beautiful, and can also be scary. I chose the name Black Forest simply because black = dark and mysterious, and because of the connection to the Brothers Grimm, who wrote many dark tales in this region, and as you can see in the journal, my inspiration has come from both the Brothers and from lots of other folk tales, especially eastern European and Soviet folk lore. I hope you can enjoy the journal despite this, sending love, jibid x
Oh Jibid , I have greatly missed hearing your lovely voice and was so excited to see a new work of art from you! The concept of your journal can only come from a true artist - what a masterpiece! Fiona J lol you are scaring me too now haha!
Then more faded green eyelash trim on the page outline for grass.

that sounds so cute! I have little idea too of painting the wooden beads, I will need to experiment it looks like, let's see what happens with the next woodland one ;)
Jibid Neary Cool! I've also taken your advise regarding the paper thickness when I dye/decorate the papers I've begun. So helpful indeed. Bless.
So beautiful as always. I love listening to your stories that go with the journals.. I love the way you dye your paper. What do you use? I think I need to order one of your journals!!
Lisa Rhodes
Thankyou Lisa, it varies what I use, but this time only tea and distress inks.
your eco dying pages are so lovely. What kind of paper do you use for the printing. I went out gathering fall leaves the other day and ended up with a bad case of poisen oak. it was miserable. I would love to learn the eco dying with leaves.
debra eaves for this one I used standard printer paper mostly 80gsm, a few were thicker with the printed graphics so as not to warp.
Have you explained somewhere how you transfer images of botanicals? That sounds really interesting to me.
KirbyGirl
not yet, but i am planning a tutorial in the next few weeks :)
Lovely journal!

such beautiful art! can I ask one question please - I eco dye paper but I am curious as to how you get such soft images - mine are fairly strong and well defined.
Marriette Charlton hi marriette, thankyou so much, as you know, natural dyeing is never an exact science, especially eco dyeing, so many variables! thank you so much for the reply - yes it is such an inexact art but the wonderful thing is each print is so very unique
i love this journal one of my favourites. How did u get the cover of the book velvety in texture because i tend to use matte medium for my covers over the top. is that fabric or just paint? please let me know thank you. lots of love
ghazaleyes00 thankyou for your kind words :)
Cotton calico on this one, with inks. There is no medium on it, only on the picture to protect the paper.
Very interesting and unique
Susan Hill thankyou :)
Stunning! TFS.
Julie Jones
thankyou Julie :) xx
Question: what weight of paper is being used in this book? It looks much thicker than copier paper.
Maybe it’s just me but I can hardly hear you even with the sound on full
Suzanne Thomas yes, I'm afraid the sound is rubbish, still working on it. It is usually better through the PC speakers if that is an option for you Suzanne x
Its always very hard to hear the videos
😊👏👏👏
This video is really sad...TURN UP YOUR VOLUME. My volume is up 100% and I can't hear a word. So sad.
Its not my volume its my camera, however i was eventually able to afford a better phone camera so i think you will find my more recent videos more appealing. Thankyou for watching tho x
