Bro you got some legendary tones out of that fractal!! It’s not the same big sound on stage, but they sound phenomenal and feel great! Can’t beat them for easy setup and perfect tones, nothing will replace the vibe of pushed air through and guitar speakers cab- yet these modelers are tools that cancel out many issues with live and recorded tones. Fantastic video and right on the money with the different utilities of them💪✔️👏
Thanks! I was trying to showcase some tones beyond the typical hi-gain rock tones you typical hear in Fractal demos. You're spot on, nothing will replace a speaker cab in person. I'm not crazy about silent stages but sometimes you can't escape them. I have a modeler primarily for that reason. I actually sold the FM-3 and got an FM-9. The FM-9 is great, but the FM-3 is easily the best bang for the buck. Thanks for watching!
great tones and great playing, dude! the jazzy thing on the strat had some impressive stretching and great feel. also, big fan of your point of view on the whole analog/digital debate. i'm all for some productive discussion on the topic. personally, i'm interested in learning about both. seems like the use-case discussion is more helpful than just "this is better than that" kinda statements.
Thank Dylan. The jazz tune is Naima by Coltrane. It was easily the hardest thing for me to play in this video. It required some reps. We tend to think of fast licks and uptempo tunes as being the only means of showcasing your skillset on guitar, but it's equally as hard to execute a slow ballad effectively. Also I kept thinking of additional use cases after I filmed the talking portion. You could also use modeling hardware to supplement your amp and pedalboard setup. There are a lot of great effects in the FM-3 that I don't own. You could use it to audition effects you're curious about and then you could buy the actual versions of those specific effects if you felt so inclined. You could also use the FM-3 easily as part of a WDW or WD setup. The FM-3 allows you to route FX in parallel or series internally with ease.
@@tonecast1 super cool about the WD/WDW possibilities! and 100% on the jazzy chord-solo-y tunes. so hard on the fingers! and there's like nowhere to hide. well done, man!
GREAT tones! Makes me want to explore the amp models in my FM3! As you know, I use mine primarily for effects in my WDW / Stereo setup. Beautiful job with the explanation of various use cases. As a bit of a "purist" as well (and some previous missteps with early modeling gear), I took a while to come around, but it really can augment your setup! I love the flexibility and routing options most of all.
Thanks Matt. It's pretty easy to dial in amp tones on the FM3. I just copied some presets and tweaked them to taste. Specifically tweaking the cab models to utilize microphones I like quickly yielded the most pleasing results. I'm a big fan of the Beyerdynamic M160. IRs that utilize it sound great to my ears. I've owned some modeling gear in the past: the original POD, a Vox AD60VTX modeling amp, a Line 6 Variax guitar, etc... Every ten years, I check in to see how the technology is progressing. It used to be "its almost there." Now it's evident that the technology has arrived. It's wild the quality and options in a wealth of analog and digital products.
@@tonecast1 that’s great. You can share it there and put a link to the RUclips video. I’m sure it will get some traffic on the channel. I always like when you play Radiohead btw. Keep the good work.

Please do put those presets you made on axe exchange. The ones with tele and ac30 sounded brilliant.
That’s a great idea. I made a Radiohead-centric AC30 preset with a Whammy, Shredmaster, Small Stone, etc…
