I love how the Japanese have been the ultimate wild factor throughout these lore videos. I bet not even That Man knows what the deal with the Japanese is.
I admit I'm out of the loop from Xrd's story so maybe Revelator addressed it, but I've been waiting so long for the Japanese story to pay off somewhere. May's done some weird shit in some of the bad ends in XX in particular.
Please be reminded that the first gear cell activation is somewhere in Japan. Also there's an allegory in there about Japanese getting irradiated by the explosion that Asuka detonated...
@@3slicessenpai I admit my memories aren't clear, it's been a lot of years since XX, but I think it was an I-No route where she attacked Dizzy, won, then May went berserk and had boss powers in the fight. I remember I-No being shocked by May's sudden transformation. EDIT: Found it. Yeah, May gets boss powers for the fight and afterward I-No shows more interest in May than Dizzy, saying that it was only a fragment of her power and taking her for research in the ending.
Same. As someone who has only absorbed GG's memes or seen some gameplay clips and using this video series to catch up on the story before playing Strive, I wasn't expecting an emotional reaction. But here we are, and I think I'll be picking up Ramlethal once I get into the game.
In the time between the previous episode and this one, I picked up Rev 2 and played through all of the story content in it, so this should help clear up any remaining questions I had
This is one of the ONLY fighting games that has amazing growth of its characters. Such an organic growth for Sol from the first GG to the Xrd series is phenomenal!!
To be more accurate, it's "world's most commited wingman makes himself immortal, turns his bro into a dragon and his bro's girl into a gundam, all to have them be together forever"
@@raveelemental4928 What irks me is Asuka's way of going about things. From what I remember Aria said the only way she would agree to the gear cell treatment prolonging her life is if Frederick would be around as well. And instead of asking Frederick to become the prototype gear for Aria, which I believe he would have agreed to *no questions asked* he instead transforms Frederick against his will with no given reason. Which causes Frederick to go renegade thinking he's been betrayed. And somehow after all this, Asuka gets Aria turned into Justice, a gear meant solely as a weapon. Even though weaponizing gear tech was the absolute last thing he wanted, he let that happen to his closest friend.
I feel Kingdom Hearts is harder to understand purely because of the naming. Different characters having the same names and such can really fuck with trying to comphrehend wtf is going on. In Guilty Gear they just make shit up but at least it's consistent so you can follow it.
guess i gotta be the guy, since all the replies are just “kh sucks lmfao” as someone who knows KH lore way too good, Guilty Gear is both more complicated with a lot more moving parts and motivations, and yet it’s also probably more meaningful and well thought out? I really do love the story and themes in KH despite a grand majority of its exposition only exists in an attempt to retroactively fix plot inconsistencies, but Guilty Gear’s overall plot feels a lot more genuine and consistent to me. It might be a combination of stuff, like how the disney elements in kh sort of distract from the actual story being told, or how a lot of the core narrative didn’t get fleshed out because of the disney IP requiring most of the focus in terms of attention to detail. The narrative of KH feels secondary to the rest of the experience when you think about it. Guilty Gear in comparison is pretty much all encompassing. from its music, to its plot and characters, to it’s design as a fighting game, it’s all in service to its perfect 90s anime/JRock album aesthetic.
14:14 I like this bit of self-awareness from Ky, admitting that he may be crazy for taking Justice's child (Dizzy) as his wife. Ky in general starts off as a straightforward character but he grows more complex over the games.
Hmmm...I was sure that this would be the final episode(for now until Strive) but it seems I forget just how GIRTHY Sign's story mode is. Well, next episode is probably the last since Rev 2 has MUCH less story then the previous 2 and I don't see it getting it's own episode because of that.

Give them a break, they're busy boinking and raising the newest GG character just in time to be playable DLC. (half gear + full gear = a 1/3 rd gear character growing up in super speed.)

*Sees her crying and wondering if she's unique too* "YOU ARE! YOU ABSOLUTELY ARE!" *Is desperately trying to hug her even though there's a degree of seperation*
god the scene where bedman kills ramlethal's dog will never not make me sob. typically scenes like this are what make you hate the villain, but it instead makes bedman more sympathetic and it's the moment that really solidified him as one of my favorite characters. ramlethal putting her hand towards the replacement dog and realizing it wasn't the same and that she herself is unique too fucking kills me everytime 😭
Damn, this story is actually pretty awesome. Thanks a bunch for putting all this together. Was probably a ton of work. I'm excited to see Strive's story mode now.
God this series just oozes style from every pore. This and Ultimax are the only fighting games I've ever taken an interest in because they're so god damn stylish. I'm loving this series, because the lore for Guilty Gear is amazing too. I can tell a lot of effort goes into these videos, and I just want to say I really appreciate you putting the leg work in to get these out.
That's the reason GG is my favorite video game series. The gameplay ALONE could potentially earn it that credit, but the fact that every last little detail is cool as hell and has personality is what cements it as the best in my book.
I know I'm 3 years late to this, but holy hell this is well put-together. All the episodes have been, but this felt like a cut above the rest. I was on the verge of tears during the Elphelt section at the end of the video. Great work!
I had never ever ever played guilty gear game before this series and I want to let you know that the editing of the end sequence with Sol punching the barrier over and over made me literally cry. Something close to the "Priest with a shotgun" type.

Can one man truly recap the entire GG lore before Strive comes out? Will the Assassin's Guild succeed in breaking Woolie's back to stop him? Will Nagoriyuki still be terrible on release? Find out on the next episode of GUILTY GEAR LORE: Heaven or Hell! *LET'S ROCK!*
you sir, win one internet.
Man, I hope Nago gets some serious buffs. He's so damn cool but needs some help.
I mean preorder release is in less than a week, so no.
@@kingofthemoon3063 well with what the dev backyard says about them buffing air movement, that alone is a bad sign for nago since he has NONE
Nagoriyuki is terrible? aww. :c
I was hoping to play as him one day...
I love how the Japanese have been the ultimate wild factor throughout these lore videos. I bet not even That Man knows what the deal with the Japanese is.
Considering his name is Asuka, I'd say he probably knows
I admit I'm out of the loop from Xrd's story so maybe Revelator addressed it, but I've been waiting so long for the Japanese story to pay off somewhere. May's done some weird shit in some of the bad ends in XX in particular.
@@ZetaStriker0000 Like what? Summoning the Dolphin God and dooming the world?
After witnessing Gabriel's Strength, I wanted him for DLC ever since!
We all do my man!
Dude same!
He's in the new trailer, so hey, maybe!
Gabe apparently taught Pot everything he knows about fighting. I would love to see him to a Heavenly Buster
meanwhile Testament just chillin’
Welp that's why Gabriel is the leader of Zepp, that guy can beat everyone he wants but stands by for his big boi potemkin
"Why does Potemkin, the largest of the Zepps, not simply eat the other Zepps?"
Goddammit. The “Replacement” scene got me.
I watched REV 2 story’s long while ago so same here.
"First question: What the FUCK"
With these latest revelations, I only have one question.
Is Sol BadGuy shaped like a friend?
mostly depends on how jacked your friends are
i got that impression seeing him hunched over in his small automobile, that his shape was that of a friend
nah he shaped like crash bandicoot
No idea, but Ramlethal definitely is.
A new lore vid, produced from Woolie's broken back
This is one of the ONLY fighting games that has amazing growth of its characters. Such an organic growth for Sol from the first GG to the Xrd series is phenomenal!!
I mean, Blazblue does that too.
I would argue King of Fighters has some decent character development for a lot of it's characters.
Tekken had good development for some of the characters till 5
So what I’m gathering is that guilty gear lore is just “oops all justice”
To be more accurate, it's "world's most commited wingman makes himself immortal, turns his bro into a dragon and his bro's girl into a gundam, all to have them be together forever"
@@raveelemental4928
What irks me is Asuka's way of going about things. Even though weaponizing gear tech was the absolute last thing he wanted, he let that happen to his closest friend.
here's hoping we're finally allowed to play as Gabriel in Strive
Me watching episode 2: ‘lol this is so convoluted how am I supposed to take it seriously?’
Me watching the end of this episode: ‘why am I crying?’
I should have known from playing all those JRPGs that the true villain of Guilty Gear was the pope all along
14:20 yes Dizzy, Justice and Sol's kid.
Which makes Ky Sol's son-in-law. Gotta love timey-wimey Gear bullshit.
14:10 seeing Sol with a genuine smile is uncanny
That Dizzy Wife Joke by Ky though!
"Kingdom hearts is too confusing and complicated!" Whatever man, Guilty Gear exists
You trying to say the game that bullshits it's way throughout with the excuse "because darkness" is less complex than "kill wife, regret"? For shame
@@wolflance64 FRED RIDE SCIENCE WIFE. LIFE GOOD.
I feel Kingdom Hearts is harder to understand purely because of the naming. Different characters having the same names and such can really fuck with trying to comphrehend wtf is going on.
In Guilty Gear they just make shit up but at least it's consistent so you can follow it.
Nah, I can actually follow this, especially with the timeline Woolie's laid down; I could never process KH's level of bullshit.
guess i gotta be the guy, since all the replies are just “kh sucks lmfao”
as someone who knows KH lore way too good, Guilty Gear is both more complicated with a lot more moving parts and motivations, and yet it’s also probably more meaningful and well thought out?
14:14
I like this bit of self-awareness from Ky, admitting that he may be crazy for taking Justice's child (Dizzy) as his wife.
Ky in general starts off as a straightforward character but he grows more complex over the games.
*cute puppy sounds*
canonically cute
4:39 3:32 I can no longer see these two images without immediately hearing "RIDE WIFE. LIFE GOOD."
I can't believe we have yet to get a playable Gabriel!
We haven't BEGUN to be shown characters that should be playable.
Hmmm...I was sure that this would be the final episode(for now until Strive) but it seems I forget just how GIRTHY Sign's story mode is. Well, next episode is probably the last since Rev 2 has MUCH less story then the previous 2 and I don't see it getting it's own episode because of that.
I mean, what's really left to cover, the Elphelt Retrieval Arc & the afterstories, right?
@@EnsignEpic Add in all of the arcade mode stories that serve as a precursor to Revelator’s story and yeah, that’s all of the story until Strive happens.
@@ksbabi I just can't wait for everyone to learn what a baller Robo Ky is in Revelator
I've never played a Guilty Gear game. I don't play fighting games usually. I had never really heard of Guilty Gear until 7 months ago. I now know almost as much about that game as I do about myself. I love the storyline I've heard from these videos. I've watched them a few times each. Woolie, thank you. I'm fairly close to actually buying Strive.
Like a wise man once said, "Play Guilty Gear"
Because of Strive, I ended up buying the previous games like Xrd and +R
That shit's fun as Heaven or Hell
Man this shit got mega wholesome towards the end, I've binged all episodes of this explaining the lore and I got so attached to these characters just from a summary of the damn lore- I even got a little emotional towards the end lol. I'm assuming there's only one more episode to go to get us fully up to date if I am correct, so I will be awaiting it. Thank you for these man, you're a legend.
God I love GG lore so much
Also pretty upset that Sin and Elphelt aren't in base Strive after everything in the story. They gotta be season 1
Yes I want them
Give them a break, they're busy boinking and raising the newest GG character just in time to be playable DLC.

"24 mins ago" for me lol
25:02 the best part of Sign's story mode. Fight me.
We're almost there, boys!
Not gonna lie, the more serious Ramlethal and Elphelt moments made me tear up. In particular, Ramlethal discovering herself. That hits deep.
Ramlethal is a character I can relate to: socially awkward, likes dogs, likes hamburgers...
Likes Leo.
...owns multiple swords
That last one was an enjoyable surprise to us all... ;-)
Makes more sense now after watching this video, Ephelt telling Ramlethal it's okay to love yourself is probably the catalyst for this.
10:06 Holy Shit! Ky took Sin's eye reconfirmed for a fourth time.
Its this series that 100% influenced my pre order for strive god the lore is just so good!
god the scene where bedman kills ramlethal's dog will never not make me sob. typically scenes like this are what make you hate the villain, but it instead makes bedman more sympathetic and it's the moment that really solidified him as one of my favorite characters. ramlethal putting her hand towards the replacement dog and realizing it wasn't the same and that she herself is unique too fucking kills me everytime 😭
"I'm not losing anybody else..."
Hell yeah, go get your family back Sol
So what i got from this is:
*Ram is precious baby and must be protected at all costs*
Damn, this story is actually pretty awesome.
Thanks a bunch for putting all this together. Was probably a ton of work. I'm excited to see Strive's story mode now.
Huge THANK YOU for the series! I just finished it up now 11 minutes before Strive goes live.
Woahhh I had no idea Gabriel was such a badass!!
Been consuming the entire Guilty Gear story through these videos! Really enjoying them~
God this series just oozes style from every pore.
11:00 So in other words, Asuka committed an atrocity to prevent an apocalypse...
Seriously; the narration, the music. That was some Evangelion shit. I loved it. I'm gonna go buy Strive.
you are AMAZING at the storytelling. in the most critical moments, leaving the game to explain itself.. just. good job.
"I never met a being that taught me so much about the frailness and love for humanity and the world"
"Haha I killed your fucking dog!"
I just watched this entire series in one sitting and while i feel like ive definitely internalized everything (as in i wont be confused while playing Rev and Strive) i feel like i'd break down and malfunction if i tried to explain all of it to someone else, good job man
Damn I almost teared up at the end. Thanks for doing all these lore videos Woolie.
Well, thanks for helping me click the Story button in Strive, Woolie!
