Nice to see the Femur Breaker get dusted off once in a while.
Oh I'm sure it gets used regularly. Even though and "Ethics Committee" exists in the SCP Foundation, it's pretty much a joke. It takes something particularly evil for them to intervene.
Now...is that an SCP? Or just a sledgehammer?
@@madnuskrell6473it's a machine that you get strapped in that breaks your bones the most painful but non lethal way possible to attract SCP-106 who breaks from containment regularly but can be attracted by the sounds of pain and suffering to recontain him. Think of it like his dinner bell in a way
@Vares65
"Remember this: the Foundation is not evil. We do not torture people "just because". We are against unnecessary cruelty. Which means somebody has to decide when cruelty is necessary. And that somebody is us."
@Vares65 Depending on the canon, they're anything but a joke, since even the 05 can't go against what they determine for containment procedures
This article had a very Series-1 feel to it. The experiments were unnerving.
i liked it
God I really miss the early foundation that didn't have op tech
Especially since there WAS a Series 1 SCP that was a camera already; its pictures showed the subject doing what they most wanted to do.
@@terrorbilly49"SCP-682 just breathed without feeling undescribable pain, send in MTF-SIGMA-ALPHA-ZETA-69 "Super ball crushers", With SCP 001 killer guns"
Yeah, this was pretty good
Always cathartic when the Ethic Committee steps in and reminds the staff of their whole point of existence
They evidently do have *some* limits.
Agreed
@@pseudotasukithey wouldn't be the *ETHICS* Committee if they didn't have at least *SOME* ethics
a reminder that the Ethic's committee serves no actual purpose and was only created because the wiki got out of control again and SCP's started to scale into insane crazy territory and they already had a "one above all" with 682 and couldn't simply create another one.
So the Ethic's committee is there to go "you know, this object is really powerful, but what if we introduced an arbitrary voice that tells the foundation. No, you can't cure cancer. Or no, you can't dropkick Sarkics with this cool deathray scp object you got. You might cause collateral damage. Greater good btw"
Even in universe the Ethics committee is a joke. Its only a tool used to reign in authors writing in another fantastical save/destroy all device and to add "nuance"
@@thefallencogI think the ethics committee actually works well in this one. This is a great example of an scp that's really dark largely because of what the foundation does with it. On one hand it does have a bit of that issue where people make the foundation out to be this incredibly evil entity that just likes to hurt people, but on the other hand it's mostly realistic in how it does so. Like trapping a spy in a crippled body and torturing him to death then resurrecting him until he complies is a really evil and dark thing but they would totally do that if they needed information. At the same time, far less than that would be a war crime in any other scenario. It makes sense that there would be some kind of entity that exists to keep the foundation itself from committing war crimes at every opportunity
Once again a reminder that the “Safe” classification doesn’t mean it isn’t dangerous. And gods damn is this one dangerous.
Correct it just means it is relatively easy to contain
@@TheRadioknight yep. The main question for Safe objects is "can it be thrown into a cell, lose the key and do no harm?" if yes then the Safe category applies. A successful blend of old and new.
This article should be held as an ideal style compromise between old SCP and new SCP generations, stylistically.
Huh this reminds me of how the scarlet king is the division between old and new. Its all a conspiracy to kill the scarlet king I tell you!
I’m always curious about this but- what do you draw the line between them? The old SCP and the new.
Personally I view older files as more clinical and realistic. More lab tests and less MTF
Whereas the newer styles I have viewed are more exploration and story based
@@joshmcintyre5868I myself tend to see the older generation of SCP as cold and clinical (sometimes to the point of it being derpy, like in throwing D-class at an item until it stops acting up or being unnecessarily cruel, though I usually criticize such articles). You can also argue that the item being something entirely mundane with an anamalous property is associated with earlier SCPs.
Later SCPs tend to be a lot more long-winded, often with multiple addendums. The Ethics Commitee also tends to have more oversight, rather than being, if anything, a joke in earlier entries.
I like how the horror isn't just from the SCP itself, but the lengths that the foundation will go towards new information
A surprisingly refreshing late-series SCP. I’m plenty tired of non-physical phenomena or weird god-like entities.

This is what an SCP should be, super simple, straight to the point and relatively easy to understand and the horrifying implications come later in the article. I'm tired of SCPs where it's clear that all the author wants to do is write a fanfiction on some character they've invented and how they feel in some scenario where the SCP is secondary.
You just spelt out why I haven’t liked most SCPs past 1000
This premise itself even isn’t that bad when it’s used in SCP tales, where stories can actually focus more on the people and places surrounding an SCP.
@@andrewedmunds4583 Tale and SCPs should be separate. There's a few where overlap is acceptable, but too much and the SCP just turns into a regular internet creepy pasta.

Would make sense to use people of a similar mental state. Having similar chemical balances in the brain, similar history, similar physical health, same race and gender. These factors matching between the two bodies would make a transfer of consciences less stressful post amnestic as having different chemicals, hormones and health on someone who is used to working a certain way could be unpleasant mentally.
Doesn't sound too unrealistic that some slightly weird person might say "neat, I can swap bodies and experience the other gender". Sounds very human to me.

Same
Every Sunday, like clockwork.
This is a good one, I love it when an SCP not only leaves me wondering what potential uses it might have but also if they're too immoral to even try them, it makes me empathize with those researchers in the tales that throw caution to the wind and go ahead with doing incredibly risky tests for the sake of satisfying their own curiosity. No wonder the ethics committee had to intervine, this toy is too dangerous and also downright inhumane.
Stellar story, turning a camera into one of the most dangerous scp is a great idea. The author is an excellent writer.
I wonder what would happen if they tried to crosstest this with SCP-963?
963 grants its user resistance, if not outright immunity, to most mind altering effects.
Additionally, if it works, the trauma should be minimal seeing as he is pretty used to switching bodies and even making mental clones of himself.
"Taking selfies with SCP-7122" could even be on the List of Thing Dr. Bright *is* allowed to do.
What if they amulet learns how to switch consciousness from the camera upon use and allows Dr. Bright that ability with any camera?
@@rykazasan the amulet isn't sapient. It's a magical tool bonded to Dr. Jack Bright's soul/mind/consciousness.
It wouldn't learn anything, but testing the camera on Bright could lead to a clearer understanding of how either of the anomalies work.
Seems to me that since it targets and terminates creatures with intelligence, this might just be the key to take out SCP-682. Either you could delete SCP-682's file or you could transfer 682's consciousness into another, more killable subject.
The way I see it, that might actually create a psychic adaptation. The only thing I think is capable of killing 682 is the fluid dispenser, being that its sentience effectively allows it to beat out an organic being in an arms race. I.E. No matter how much 682 evolves, there will likely always be a fluid that could react negatively, in a highly specific way. Kind of like how viruses can hyper-specialize to always be able to predate on a specific array of living beings.
Scp 6820 shows how bad that would be. 682 is a powerful abstract idea given physical form. Use that camera and he'll either resist the pull, or worse go into the nonexistence and get stronger; maybe come back with the camera's power.
Wow this got incredibly 1984 dark very quickly. Incredible work from the author to make such an interesting SCP. I was thinking halfway through “wow you can do a lot of awful shit with this” then we got to the second half of the video 👀.
Deathnote: A picture says more than a thousand words edition
Underrated comment
A camera that swaps souls is a very interesting SCP. Also, you don’t see the Ethics Committee step into much of these experiments often. Lol
The ethics commitee really pulling through with this one, they really are the difference in "the foundation is cold, not cruel." But it really does make you think.
Tough life for the poor 14 year old Chinese girl... From losing her family to an Uyghur internment camp to being used as a body-switching soldier. Definitely one of the Foundation's darker deeds.
I really like the operation: Soulmate part. Also the ethics committee is a buzz kill
Did i not pay attention well enough, or wouldnt this scp theoretically let you clone individual's metadata and put it in one or more d-class personnel bodies. Basically having three people who think they are the same person, in different bodies.
I was thinking the same thing, the D-class share the same consciousness.
Thought that too
I did not think of that, but it seems obvious now. They could find a person who is 1: Extremely loyal to the foundation and, 2: Deals with the transfer process particularly well, and copy that person's metadata onto every person of interest they can get a photo of. Maybe they would have if the ethics committee hadn't shut it all down.
The way its described, the meta data "advanced properties" persist as extra-dimensional data not actually stored within the .ANO file, given the file size is not representative of this data. The file simply serves as an anchor to reality for this persons "soul". While the image and regular metadata describes the physical representation of the person, as it can be manipulated to manipulate the body's actions and speech.
This "advanced" metadata persists as the living consciousness and not actually static data which is why people experience ego-death and dream states between conscious transfer.
If you decide to copy this data across multiple .ANO files you are anchoring the same consciousness across three different bodies, these are not copies, but the same original one, with multiple files to anchor to. The consciousness would likely tear itself apart almost immediately.
That was dark and fucked up, but absolutely brilliant. A camera with 2 very dangerous abilities. Always interesting when a anomaly has 2 different powers. Think in the future you could try and do the desire camera (scp 978)
I was just wondering, "man, I've listened to every single volgun scp vid. What do I do now?"
*TheVolgun proceeds to uploads
Me: that does put a smile on my face
It's one of those horrors that is worse when you think about the possibilities compared to the actual telling. Like the tales of the old wizards who would soul-swap to others to steal their time
damn the Jailers are being extra evil with this one, hopefully the Chaos Insurgency can get this and take some pics of the 05
This might be one of the most insidious tools at the disposal of the foundation
This is why some safe SCPs scare the ever-living crap out of me. I understand what safe means in a containment class, but holy crap, this one is absolutely terrifying.
The "Safe" ones are usually some of the best, this one is no exception.
Finally someone who understands that the containment class and how dangerous/powerful the SCP is are separate characteristics.
Hearing your voice makes my day
What a fucking incredible idea-and an incredible adaptation, too! This is a horror movie premise I STG
I appreciate that you've gone back to the old way of displaying the article text, the aesthetic suits it better I think and it's much better to read from :)
Reminds me of that scene in Lawrence of Arabia where the soldier smashes the reporter's camera after being photographed and Lawrence says "he thinks these things will steal his virtue."
i really like how this one treats the foundation as evil, but not cartoonishly evil.
Okay, but would this maybe explain the SCP about the agent who became a raccoon.
I’d doubt as when you read its description, it said the raccoon contained human DNA, had a longer live span and vulnerable to human base disease. It’s more likely a reality bender turned him into a raccoon and somehow made the foundation unable to connect the dots.
This! This is a good SCP. Grounded, scientific, yet throughly unexplainable.
This took such a good insidious turn. Well preformed man 😄
this one was incredible. I love the long ones with explanation of their extended effects. great scp and video
Casualty report. This was a complicated one for giving a count. The discovery of the object involved the death of the person of interest as well as 2 operatives. In testing, there were 5 deaths, 2 of them suicides, 2 instant shutdowns, and 1 death from bodily failure, but this does not include the poor guy who had the misfortune of dying 3 times, each presumably with a dead body as a result. So 8 deaths from testing. Additionally, the examples from project soulmate show 7 PoI's captured and the death of 3 sleeper agents. 14 deaths in this document and 7 individuals captured.
I'm surprised they didn't try to experiment with other SCP's, only to get the whole thing expunged and the 05's forbidding it.
This one was Awesome! Loved everything about it! It feels series 1 in a good way. And it's also well written.
You can hear volgun be professional in the beginning and slowly get more and more unnerved as the file gets just as equally unsettling. Love it
Of course it has to be a Nikon lmao. In the photographer community Nikon users are always getting bullied. So it's understandable for them to secretly make the camera anomalous.
killing a guy via supernatural means for refusing to help with documentation over an SCP, then bringing him back in someone elses body and threatening to do it again, is pretty fucking metal
I love how the pictures went from a nikon dslr to nikon mirrorless cameras later 🤣
I know the safe scps get fewer views so I’m commenting for engagement
definitely the best scp youtuber out there
I love SCPs like this, its obvious purpose is for blackmail/murder but foundation members just thought "well what happens if we copy the data from one to the other" and that suddenly creates this entire nightmare scenario that the rest of the story is about. I really love the idea of loopholes or exploits being used in stories and the horrific consequences that follow.
So. What happens if the camera is used to photograph Dr. Bright’s current host and the metadata is deleted? Does he reappear if the amulet is placed on another host?
What happens when just the amulet is photographed and that image’s metadata is deleted? Does Dr. Bright go away for good?
This may be the best, most comprehensive, well-written, well-thought out SCP in a LONG time. I love this one to death.
This is legit so good probably now one of my favorite scps now
Geesus Operation Soulmate is fecking terrifying.
This makes me wonder if the Foundation could use SCP-7122 to transfer consciousnesses between any scps?
If they display enough intelligence, it’s possible.

So good! This has the makings of a great sci-fi suspense/thriller similar to 2005 movie, "The Jacket"
I was like "please have a different voice on the log after the transfer" over and over and I got so excited afterwards
Man, being on the ethics committee has to be the most frustrating job in the foundation.
You just know they’re getting petitioned daily by softhearted researchers complaining about every one of the *many* infractions of human decency at the Foundation they have to allow.
Yet, when they actually do step in, the sour tone of their reports always suggest they just got done with a three hour screaming match with the researcher leading the project they canceled because the research lead was adamant that, “sacrificing 1000 babies daily is totally ‘cold but not cruel’ if it creates a 5% increase in workplace efficiency”.
Thank you sooooo much dude, I love safe scps and a video this long about a safe scp is amazing ❤
Why do you love safe SCP’s so much? Seems like a really odd place to focus interest to me. No disrespect, just curious.

If this would've been an RPC file it could've been called Irene's eyeglass.
Man D-9672 really went through it with this one
It’s kinda ironic brining up the idea of soul killer when thinking about scp-5000
I like this one a lot, because it is such a weird blend of morals and ethics. The amount of care they have about the wellbeing of the swapped civilians is frankly surprising for the foundation, like I wouldn't think the death of a civilian would count as a failure normally. But at the end of the day, they literally are finding paralyzed people to use as cages, and nothing summarizes the immorality of this better than them killing the guy they swapped the Dr with and then bringing him back, so they could use his suffering to prove he'd be stuck that way forever.
What a strange and compelling look into how people within the foundation think at times. Great article.
"safe" is my favorite classification because those SCPs are most often used for true evil

Sometimes the immersion is broken by the creators of these SCPs not knowing how to write.
it was a joke
There have been some really interesting and unsettling SCPs and the Foundation's questionable decisions along the way. Operation Soulmate is pretty dark though, trapped inside a cripple while in containment, and likely going through all the shock and horror those D-Class went through prior to the operation's success is dark.

I'm only 6 minutes in so far, and I REALLY love the scientific nature to the experimentations done here (even if it is a bit questionable ethically). My very first thought when they mentioned 'when a human is photographed' was 'okay, so what would happen when more people are photograpphed?', 'What would happen if you photograph somebody in darkness?', 'What would happen if you photograph an animal?'.
