Being in Mars only useful in case an earth vulcano erupts and we just die in ash, or nuclear bombs and we die out of radiation, a meteor i wouldnt say cuz the effects on earth would take thousands of year to revert. But then Mars ppl could re colonize earth, but anyways Mars is not a nice planet, cant really live there, so anything that happens to earth would have to be short duration for the planet to restore living conditions, or mars ppl would die too

Most of what he says is either not true or exaggerated to seem practical when in reality most of what Musk claims is superficial because he doesn't actually have any real depth of knowledge beyond "it sounds cool!!". Robotic missions are exponentially cheaper and capable of doing even more than what a human would ever be capable of in that environment. 95% of your time and energy would be spent just being able to breathe and not freeze to death... you're not doing research, you're not building anything or starting complex projects... Mars doesn't even possess that many resources in large quantities to make it cost-effective to mine. By the time the Earth becomes impossible to live on due to the Sun's life cycle, Mars would also be impossible to live on in any sense of the word "life". Musk is just talking out of his ass because he wants to sound cool... no one is going to make Mars a tourist destination or colony desitination.... the first step would be starting a moon base anyway so you don't have to spend 3/4ths of your payload on rocket fuel just to escape Earths orbit and atmosphere. Basically you’re really looking to do all your cargo-only runs in Hohmann transfers (the more efficient 6 month-ish flight). You could risk doing a direct route with crew, but that means much more delta-v. So more fuel needed in orbit and less room for corrections mid flight. If you do the longer run with crew you have to spend more on lifting additional oxygen, hydrogen, food, longer term health supplies, etc into orbit.

    • @defendukraine181
      @defendukraine181 Год назад

      And you would have to worry more about mental health on the 6 month trip

    • @LogicalNiko
      @LogicalNiko Год назад +1

      @@defendukraine181 6 months of crew isolation isn’t horrible, especially if they trained together for awhile. The Navy has done quite a bit of research and found that stress ramps up at about 12-18 months, and really hits maximum at 2-3 years for most dedicated and trained individuals. It just means if you go the 6month route you loose a significant portion or time on Mars doing work to round trip travel stress.
      So if you’re really targeting 18 months total mission duration, you have lost an extra 3rd by going the efficient route. You also then need to account for having 6 months of resupply siting in mars orbit waiting for the return flight (food, oxygen, hydrogen). So your launching fuel and supplies into earth orbit for the journey there. Fuel and supplies to be in mars orbit for the return (which takes more fuel in earth orbit to get it there). Fuel, equipment, and supplies on the mars surface (more launches into earth orbit to get that there). At some point your talking a dozen missions to service one human round trip.
      And that’s why SpaceX knows it’s got to be churning out Starships by the dozen.
