In this video Canadian Guitarist/producer Dean Wolfe reacts to Israel symphonic metal band Scardust
A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught Canadian guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician, on the road at age 17 for two years, then went part-time ever since, while holding day careers including chef and spiritual health care while raising a family.
As a producer I've made hundreds of my own songs for media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I mostly abandoned the prog genre in the 90s but have returned to it now with vigour 30 years later. So much prog! My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk / acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electronic as well).

Distorted Harmony is another prog band from Israel. Edgend is/was another one, their one album had a Symphony X vibe, but not sure they are still active.

Wow, there are many great modern progressive-metal bands in Israel, but I'd actually love for you to check out one of the oldies: this one doesn't really have an English name, but if I had to translate it, it would be something like "The Deeper, the Bluer". ( מה שיותר עמוק יותר כחול

🇫🇮 👍‍What a great surprise from you to make a reaction video to my new favorite (symphonic) progressive metal band from Israel with stellar musicians and a vocal beast Noa Gruman, who:
    1. makes her own stage outfits, produces & edits many of their music videos
    2. writes the lyrics & co-composes the songs with her friend Orr Didi, who just recently replaced the original bassist playing in this song
    3. has served her two year military service with the Israeli armed forces
    4. conducts the Hellscore A Cappella metal choir that has performed with bands like e.g. Therion, Ayreon & Amorphis
    5. is also a classically trained pianist & cellist, although she doesn't play these instruments with Scardust
    6. has been working with the Israeli opera as 1st soprano & also with Zubin Mehta
    7. worked on her extreme vocals with Floor Jansen (After Forever, ReVamp & Nightwish) for two years online and has over an octave wider range (i.e. 4,5 octaves) than Floor.
P.S. To watch them with Orr Didi on bass playing a crazy solo supported by their new keyboardist, the entire Hellscore choir & Patty Gurdy as a quest vocalist and hurdy gurdy player, just watch/react to: SCARDUST feat. Personally I've never been into prog music, this band however is one of my favourites. I think 95% of bands are let down by their vocalists, but this woman is world class. You should check out their song Dials, it is incredible! 🤟

Scardust also has some live videos of them doing Nightwish covers.
They did Elan, Ghost Love Score, and I believe at least one more Nightwish song (if not more).

I'm always late coming to the party. See that some of my friends have been here. This band is my 3rd band I support. I don't like comparisons much either, however they do give off vibes. The moment I heard them my soul cried out to support. I also requested that my 2nd band cover this piece. Different genres, but could stretch them a bit. In the 70s in college I loved 20th century classical techniques and loved Frank Zappa especially his classical pieces. So when I deep dived it fed my soul. They did a EP in the beginning and they sent it to me. So good. They made a lyric video of it, which I prefer, called Shards. It gives me Rush vibes in parts. Such a cool piece. Noa writes and arranges for Hellscore Choir which is the choir you usally see. She also does other choir projects. I actually got to hang out on zoom when I was home last. My inner geek took over. Lol Liked the reaction. Hope to see more. Till then. Peace. Stay safe. God Speed. 🌹❤️🤘

Despite the fact that I would have loved to live in England or Sweden so I could see many of my favourite modern-day prog bands live, I am lucky enough to live in the same country as these guys :DD

Hi Dean, Graham Reed here- Ex Sherdyface. Thanks for the reaction. I saw them before Covid in a small club in london (without the Choir) performing their new album as was- 'Sands of Time'. Other songs on the album are more developed and have some beautifull and more complex arrangements. Of metal genres I prefer proggy, symphonic metal. But my fave band for a few years now is Bnad-Maid. Thanks again.

This is a great song to introduce yourself to this astounding band, Scardust, but please don’t stop here, because you’re in for a treat if you drill down deeper on them.
NOA GRUMAN is simply a one-of-a-kind coloratura soprano (with opera experience) that can leap & fall in and out of chest voice to head voice to harsh vocals (🤘🏼) seamlessly & effortlessly! Her agility & range & power are unmatched in this genre(.) She is a principal composer & lyricist for the band and she is the creator, arranger, & director of the choir, Hellscore (checkout their a cappella covers of classic metal tunes….treat number two for you)!
Other Scardust songs like “Dials” or “Hour Glass” or “Shards” will get you deeper into what they are truly capable of and will get quite a bit more progressive!
Thanks for the great reaction, I am subscribing….now!
