Good review! You hit the nail on the head for how I feel about this movie. It's got good elements but is just very absurd for being the final Halloween movie in this trilogy. Especially with the lack of Michael Myers, he feels more like a plot device and you don't feel his presence in it.
I think the concept of Corey being a scapegoat would’ve been better like have Micheal do the killings and the traumatized town blame Corey for it. That would’ve been fresh n new.
Halloween Ends is like that one package you can’t wait for to come in the mail but you get an email saying the package was destroyed by carelessness and shame.
It's the worst movie in the entire Halloween series. I'd rather watch 8 hours of Busta Rhymes kung-fu kicking Michael Myers than 1 minute of Corey Cunningham throwing Michael Myers to the ground like a bitch and stealing his mask off him.
I can't lie, I think I might like Resurrection more than this movie. At least Resurrection knows its a goofy, dangerentertainment, american pie type Halloween sequel. Ends doesn't know what the hell it is.
If anyone remembers what Blumhouse said about their direction for Halloween was Michael was gonna be human and no supernatural elements. But then does the opposite in Halloween Kills. Halloween Ends was garbage. It would've made sense to bring Corey in the 2018 film. But Corey was a throwaway. Can we also acknowledge that there are people walled up in the sewer? That wouldve been a more interesting story. Alison went from vengeful daughter that faced Myers and then went to horror loose girl trope. The people of Haddonfield are the worst. Shaming Laurie for what Michael did when they all know what happened. And people saying "Michael Myers has terrorized this town for 40 years" No. No he didn't. He was locked up. There was just so many continuity errors and nonsensicle reasoning. The tranfer evil thing is so stupid. Ends was just bad. The final fight was good until Alison showed up. The disposal of Myers in a industrial grinder was awesome, but a funeral procession ruins it. There are good elements, but just poorly executed. Michael Myers burned to death in Laurie Strode's house. Thats my head canon.
6:14 It was weird and fast because they made the error of introducing a new main character in the last installment of a trilogy. If they had given Cameron Corey's role, then we'd have their relationship from the last two movies already developed. 11:43 I agree. Why introduce a character like Corey, who we see develop to a full-fledged killer, just to get rid of him in one movie? His death before the final battle between Laurie and Michael makes everything with him feel like a waste of time.
I really like Corey's character. I would've loved to have seen a redemptive moment for Corey right before he dies. Something along the lines of, he starts to wake up out of this trance for a second and wants to protect Alyson from Michael. Then Michael kills him.
I don’t blame you. It has some good aspects. But damn does it disrespect myers and have some weird ass story choices for a 3rd installment in a trilogy.

I agree somewhat with this. Halloween 3 and Friday 5, don't even have the real Michael or Jason in the movie at all, which I'm fine with. I wish instead of crapping on Michael in Ends, they would've just removed him entirely (which would've required slight changes to the 2018 and kills scripts).
@MadBloodMatt When you have done this many movies in the franchise, you run out of ideas, so whenever they do, another one has to be a reboot new characters new story
I was a David Gordon Green stan because of how much I loved H18 and Kills. I fought off every anti-Halloween Kills opinion people threw at me and I was so confident in his ability to make a great final movie, and when I saw this piece of shit I was so crestfallen.
Damn, that does suck. BUT at least you can enjoy ends and kills for years to come. Sounds like you’re in the same camp as me wishing they ended the Blumhouse run after 2 movies. Just throw the ending to Halloween ends at the end of kills.
The busting down the door I saw as Corey either having some sort of anger issues already or that he was severely chlostrophobic in either case, I don't think he would be considering the reaction of the parents. Also I knew people in the marching band who were bullies. Also sometimes when people are traumatized do rush into relationships.
I always read it as a unreliable narrator situation, because when Michael looks into his eyes, there’s a brief flashback that shows Corey actually pushing him instead of accidentally hitting him with the door.
On the point you made about Laurie's role in 2018 and Ends being reversed, I personally think her being peaceful in Ends makes sense. The way she acted in 2018, to her, caused more mayhem than needed and possibly brought Michael to her - she never finds out Sartain took Michael there. Its been 4 years, and yes i know it was 40 years before 2018 but this time Michael is free to come back but hasn't, so I feel Laurie may have given up waiting and just wanted to become peaceful. Everyone else seems at peace though, so maybe Laurie wanted to join in with them and just mourn. But that's just my take, maybe I'm wrong. And also about the sewer moment, I think Michael was gonna kill Corey when he woke up because maybe he enjoys murdering people when they are awake, and also the novelisation explains that Michael transfers his evil into Corey in a way - it sounds stupid but the Halloween franchise has never been that realistic. I think Corey saying "If I can't have her, no one will" just means if he can't have her, Laurie can't and nobody around here can. That's why he stabs himself in the neck, so that Allyson goes away from Laurie and she never sees her again. I guess.
I know where you're coming from but I still somewhat. So, Michael is still on the loose, probably still killing people here and there over the 4 year timespan. But yet, Lauri is now all of a sudden just okay with it, chillin, making pumpkins laughing with the family after spending 40 years training and obsessing over killing him? Not impossible, but a VERY odd story choice. To your point about Corey's death. I agree with what you're saying. I just think its a REALLY anticlimactic way to kill off a character that did such a good job throughout the movie and we spent so much time investing in. Felt like lazy writing to me. All capped off with a lackluster Lauri Michael fight at the end. H20 did it way better.
Micheal killed her daughter four years earlier, along with 40+ people. Literally a mass murder. And he is out. But now she is "calm". There are no possible motivations apart from lazy incoherent and talentless writing.
@@flaviodrusovalerio2825 i literally Explained why lmao, the difference was it was 40 year’s inbetween 78 and 18 but he was locked away, but now he’s been out for 4 years and hasn’t chosen to come back, thats why
I think it would’ve been better if they did it all like they did in the beginning. While slow you could work with it. But eventually leading to the cop following Corey and Corey just hiding behind a pillar or whatever. The cop thinks Corey went into the pipe and then the cop gets killed. Michael gets stronger. Hobo guy is fussing at Corey for “snooping” around his stuff. Michael comes out of no where, kills hobo guy. Corey runs off. Tells Alyson and Laurie what he saw and they devise a plan to finally end Michael. Little do they know Michael is lurking around now because he’s strong enough. Then some way some how their plan doesn’t go to plan but the end statement is they kill Michael and they’re kind of the hero’s of Haddonfield because they finally killed this prolific serial killer. Basically Corey stays a good guy instead of doing the whole Christine type plot.
Amongst MANY criticisms of this film,my issue with the opening scene was that it was immediately clear to me that it wasn't a setup for Micheal to pop out and kill someone. I had no idea where it was going, but I was immediately aware that you're supposed to think that so they could subvert the expectation that they thought had been successfully instilled in the audience. And I consider myself particularly bad at seeing that kind of thing coming usually. Then cut to classic Halloween opening credits and title sequence...the jack-o-lanterns emerging out of one another was a bit on the nose,to be honest... ...and THEN a montage sequence from the previous films recapping the story so far, complete with melodramatic Jamie Lee Curtis monologue!? If you want to do the whole "previously on Halloween" thing, you open with THAT. I understand that it was meant to be an excerpt from Laurie's memoirs or whatever, but that does not forgive it as a deliberate choice from a filmmaking perspective. ....sorry for the length of this comment....and this is just about the opening 10 minutes! I did not care for this film.
Hello new sub here, but yes I agree 100% that Laurie's character portrayal should have definitely been reversed from 2018 to Ends. I remember watching Ends for the first time and think this doesn't work at all it needs to switch with Laurie from 2018. Honestly if they would've done that this trilogy would've worked well, but that really shows they weren't thinking of making a trilogy.
I also think Corey should have been more of a Michael myers fan boy ala Tommy Doyle H6. Perhaps the movie could have opened at the end of Kills where Michael is escaping. He stumbles upon a group of bullies attacking Corey. Michael kills the bullies as Corey escapes and this causes Corey to think he's special and that Michael saved him.
So I really enjoyed this one initially and i actually liked it more upon further viewings. Now I'm swaying the other way. I think the film was rushed. It probably could have been 30-45 minutes longer. I think there should have been public panic at the fact it's Halloween, Michael hasn't been seen in 4 years yet bodies are stacking up. It would have been interesting to see Allison realize that people in her life are suddenly dying. Corey also should have gone after the boys mother. He was doing relatively fine until she confronted him at the bar. He also excessively attacked and killed the DJ after only one interaction which wasn't even that bad. It also bugs me that no one, absolutely no one, has any reaction or response to Corey dressed as Michael. Laurie is more annoyed that it's Corey, not Michael. Allison doesn't even realize the mask near Corey's body or his coveralls and Laurie does nothing to say "hey look, he's dressed like Michael".
The movie only works as a standalone film for me. It was a bad way to end the franchise, because we didn't expect it and it doesn't fit into the trilogy at all. But as I said, it's a pretty good movie, almost a psychological thriller as a standalone movie.
It also could've been good if they removed Michael entirely, instead of making him look like a B&*tch. Maybe they should've leaned fully into the anthology route and went completely Halloween 3 on us.
You and many are repeating the point of Laurie being too relaxed. She tells you in her writing that she's trying to be normal. Her actions tells you she is trying to not be controlled by evil. She been there done that. She's doing something different, And YET, she was prepared as you saw in the end, And if they did 2018 actions the same, you would still be bitching. On my re-watch it makes sense of the evil infecting the town. It's a lot deeper than the aesthetics as you expect from a slasher.
I get that they are trying to make Lauri seem like she moved on, that’s obvious. But I still think it’s odd she has decided to move on now that the mass murderer that killed her friends and tried to kill her is still creeping around.
I can't believe people actually timed the amount of time Michael is in the movies...touch grass lol. I think a concept of anyone other than Laurie ending Myers is pretty unbelievable. I feel like Michael and Laurie are just destined to be the end of each other maybe a double kill IDK lol
It was nice to get something new and fresh in a Halloween movie after getting the same formula over and over. It's a shame Corey was killed off though, it really felt like they had something they could build on.
I agree, the entire way he went out was very underwhelming and a part of me wishes they would've left the door open for him to potentially return in either another movie or a haddonfield tv series.
It makes sense though. It was their last Halloween movie. Wouldn’t make sense to keep characters around for the sake of a sequel when there will be none.
@@KurtisB Corey could've been used by another Halloween production. Do you think Corey's death was a satisfying way to end his character's story? Personally, I would've preferred him to snap out of his trance for a moment and then get killed by Michael. I think the audience would've enjoyed to see he had a tiny redeemable amount of good left in him.
@@KurtisB The next Halloween production could've continued Corey's story either in a new movie or a TV series. I think Rohan Campbell did a damn good job as Corey, so it would've been cool to continue his story. But I'm okay that they killed him off. I just personally didn't like the way they did it.
@@MadBloodMatt I loved the Corey character and would have also loved to see his story continue. I’m just saying that I understand why they did it. From their perspective, their story is done so there is no need to leave loose ends.
The only band members i ever saw bully were also jocks in my city the band was seen as to lame to bully anybody saw many get bullied just because of being in the band. Ends was so boring i almost fell asleep
Matt Blood - I loved the novel but film I was mixed on after the film six times. The score for this film composed by John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies might be my favorite out of the three film scores although I love all three scores. Kyle Richards who played Lindsey Wallace should’ve had more to do in the film, the same goes for Will Patton who played Frank Hawkins. Nurse Debra “Deb” Jennings played by the wonderful and beautiful human being known as Michele Dawson was funny but low key annoying but that’s why I love her character and was kinda sad to see her get axed off. Dr. Mathis oof that guy was something to say the least, Doug Mulaney he was a jerk to Corey Cunningham and when Corey stud up to him I was happy to see it. Speaking of standing up for yourself shoutout to Corey Cunningham played by Rohan Campbell for standing on business. The junk yard is probably my favorite scene in the entire movie. The SFX was fantastic Christopher Nelson deserves a freaking oscar, the mask was really cool too. I really liked Corey and Allyson’s relationship more in the novel compared to the film. Halloween: Ends (2022) has my favorite version of Laurie Strode. From an acting standpoint and script writing standpoint this is easily the best out of the three movies. This version Allyson is arguably my favorite version of the character and shoutout to Andi Matichak for giving a great performance and her relationship with Corey Cunningham was very interesting to me especially in the novel because it goes into both of those characters heads and I felt more sympathetic towards Corey, Allyson. My biggest pet peeves with this film was that there wasn’t enough Michael Myers, Lindsey Wallace, Corey’s scarecrow mask and the final fight between Michael, Laurie Strode should’ve been at least five to ten minutes long. Allyson should’ve had a fight scene against either Michael Myers or Corey Cunningham. With that being said in my opinion give this film six to ten years much like Halloween III: Season Of The Witch (1983), Halloween 6: The Curse Of Michael Myers (1995) Rob Zombie’s Halloween II (2008) and it will be looked back on as one of the best films in the “Halloween” franchise. Dare I say you could call Halloween: Ends (2022) a cult classic. But only time will tell. If the movie had a good chunk of what was in the novel in the movie it probably would’ve been received better for fans of the franchise and movie critics. Some of the deleted / extended scenes from the DVD, Blu-Ray, 4K Ultra HD would’ve added more to the film and make it an overall way better film. We may never get a follow up to this movie either with another film or a t.v. series or a limited series on a streaming service which is a bummer to me because this is by far my favorite timeline in the entire franchise. For those who HATED this film give it another chance and if you still don’t like it read the Halloween: Ends novel written by Paul Brad Logan. The novel made the movie way better in my opinion. The film still gets a 6.5/10 but the novel on the other hand gets a 9/10. Halloween: Ends (2022) has inspired me to make my own “Halloween” movie pitch. More specifically a direct sequel to Halloween: Ends (2022).
Best part of the movie for me was the end credits song by Ghost, called Hunter's Moon. But the even better version of it was on their album Impera. I highly recommend you check it out.
2:57 I'm not a parent, but I agree with the intro being unnerving. Something about seeing kids die (even if it's fictional and the kid is a jerk) makes me uncomfortable.
To your point about Laurie’s role being reversed in 2018 & ends I completely agree. I’ve been saying this. I love 2018 but her character doesn’t make sense. He killed 5 people 40 years ago and yea it’s traumatizing but her Rambo style character didn’t really warrant compared to ends where he’s literally out on the loose in haddonfield. It doesn’t make any sense
That movie was trash from beginning to end. Its misleading fans about this grand finale battle between Michael and Laurie. If Michael was so weak he he didn't struggle with killing Deb.
I still absolutely loved it. Cunningham was a breath of fresh air and am absolutely bummed they killed him off. I do understand why people have their issues, I also do think corey should've been introduced as a character in the first one for his turn in Ends to be as effective as possible
I'm glad you loved it and I totally understand why some people do love it. It definitely has some good things in the movie. Like you said its definitely a new fresh approach in some ways. But I agree, Corey should've been introduced earlier. Going a totally new direction with the story in the final chapter of a trilogy is an odd choice. Exorcist Believer's further proof David Gordon Green's not quite built for kinda stuff. I will say though, 2018 is an outlier. He did a solid job there.
The ending is the only part of the movie that I like. Everything else makes no sense from the previous two films, especially the two leads. I don’t foresee watching this until a very long time to give a second chance.
Halloween Ends, well, I hate this film more than others. For me, there's only one good film: John Carpenter is right; after the '78 film, it's over, and it's the perfect ending. Michael Myers is just a man, a very sick one, but just a man. That is scary. It's not a virus, it's not a monster; it's something that really could happen. But then they decided to make Michael Myers an unstoppable killing machine. Well, again, this movie contradicts that idea. The worst part is that the movie is boring for many reasons-the backstories, the romance. If you like it because it's different, well, yes, it's really different, but it happens too little in the movie. And then, regarding 'the ending,' it's the same ending, Michael Myers dies-the same ending since 1981. What is really not precisely innovative is not new or original.
Well said. I get that they need more violence to pander to the modern audience but the greatness of myers is how scary he is stalking and creeping through the shadows. And I love it when myers feels mostly a man with a subtle supernatural edge. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 🔪 🎃
I have kids and grandkids, and I did like that little shit getting it. However with how strong the first 2 entries were this was disappointing. There was a hint of Jason Goes to Hell when Corey was looking in the mirror. I know even in the 2018 Halloween I got really mad when the Doctor put on that Myers mask but it was short lived. When Corey put on that mask I got the same irritation. I don't like anyone other than Myers wearing that.
The entire trilogy is mostly poorly written mess imo. The only reason it made money was because they threw in brutal kills and a dude named Michael Myers.
Halloween Ends is the best of the latest 3. Most of the reasons for people not liking it are extremely dumb. Same people that don’t like Halloween III just because “mIcHaEl IsN’t EvEn In It” even though the Halloween franchise was never intended to have it solely be about Michael Myers. They just want to see the same ol’ thing over and over. Michael walks around, he murders some people, yada yada. If that’s not what they get then they hate it lol. Obviously Halloween Ends isn’t perfect but it’s a good movie. I agree that it will be a favorite decades from now once people realize that their hatred for it was based off of something stupid. 😂
I love Halloween 3. I'm glad you love Halloween ends, i think that's amazing. To me Ends has some great aspects. That junkyard scene is f**king sick. However, I do wanna point out a BIG difference between Halloween 3 and Ends. Halloween 3 had the balls to completely leave Myers out. Halloween Ends, makes Myers look like a pansy throughout. I mean the guy gets beat up by a kid who just got bullied by the marching band. He also gets killed by a 60-year-old Jamie Lee Curtis lol. If you wanna go anthology. Go all in like Halloween 3 did! Personally, I would've preferred if Ends didn't even have Michael in it.
@@MadBloodMatt You also have to keep in mind that this is four years after he was stabbed and shot to no end, lost a couple of fingers, probably developed some infections, lived in a sewer where he was probably barely eating, breathing in moldy air, etc. His health was extremely deteriorating and he would have probably died soon if he had just stayed down there. Corey helping him murder again seemed to give him a little jolt of energy. Just enough to be dangerous but not enough to make him unstoppable. At the end it seemed like he basically decided he was going to get his mask back and attempt to kill Laurie whether he was strong enough or not. He took a risk and it didn’t pay off. Everyone is so used to seeing Michael as some sort of unstoppable freak of nature but he’s not. In the original he was stopped by a knitting needle, a knife and some gunshot wounds. Of course it didn’t kill him but it’s not like he just brushed them off as if they were nothing. What we saw in Ends is what Michael would have really been like as an actual human being. Maybe they messed up in Kills by making him look like a zombie but obviously that’s not realistic. Ends is realistic.
@@MadBloodMatt Not trying to beat a dead horse here but I just thought of something so I thought I’d mention it lol. You’re not the first person that I’ve seen mention having an issue with Michael getting “beat up” by a kid. But people seem to forget that Corey is 21 years old. The same age that Michael was in 1978. He’s also not just a random person. We are led to believe that he has somehow had some sort of “evil” transferred into him. Michael was perceived to be stronger than the average man because he was consumed by evil. If that’s the case, then why aren’t we to believe that Corey is becoming stronger because of the evil that he being consumed by? Factor that in with the fact that Michael is older and his health is poor. So it would make sense that Corey might have the upper hand in a struggle with Michael at this point.
when i saw it in theaters i liked it...but wnhen i had time to digest it.. i didn't like it at all..but after I rewatched it again its really not bad except the ending.. i will never like..
I don’t think Halloween Ends was really the end all be all Halloween. Most of the movie doesn’t have Michael, which it is okay for a Halloween to not have Michael, but not to bookend this particular series’ legacy. Carpenter always wanted an anthology story for the Halloween series, and I think this step away from Michael semi-accomplishes that. Which I admire. I like the tone, but it was not my favorite Halloween by a long shot.
You make good points. Hell, I would've enjoyed it if they completely ended the michael story in Kills and then went full anthology in the 3rd movie just like H1, H2, H3. I also think the general fanbase would've enjoyed that more than this.
I'll never understand why people have this movie in the top 3 in the franchise. BUT I can understand why some folks have it last. It has its moments here and there but overall is mostly an incoherent mess to end a trilogy that started out very solid.
It’s been 1 year since Halloween ends came out. Now that we’ve had some time to digest it, how do we feel about it?

@@flaviodrusovalerio2825 i literally
Explained why lmao, the difference was it was 40 year’s inbetween 78 and 18 but he was locked away, but now he’s been out for 4 years and hasn’t chosen to come back, thats why
Basically Corey stays a good guy instead of doing the whole Christine type plot.
flaws and all, they have already pierced my nostalgia so now i just have fun with them
I can respect that. Crazy that the Blumhouse trilogy already gives us nostalgic feels.
No worries about the length of the comment. Thanks for watching and thanks for giving your thoughts on the movie as well!
@@MadBloodMatt well thankya for hearing me out, man. It was a genuinely cathartic experience for me,and it's nice to have spoken my truth.😁
I enjoyed it personally
Glad you enjoyed it!
I also think Corey should have been more of a Michael myers fan boy ala Tommy Doyle H6. Perhaps the movie could have opened at the end of Kills where Michael is escaping. He stumbles upon a group of bullies attacking Corey. Michael kills the bullies as Corey escapes and this causes Corey to think he's special and that Michael saved him.
nice
it doesnt make sense for in the midwest ,three high schoolers are bullying a mid 20 something
You nailed it, so many weird decisions made by DGG. This had the ingredients of a great movie, but it just doesn't work on any level 🎃
I agree, it had potential!
Thanks for watching my review and letting me vent out some of my thoughts.
@@MadBloodMatti agree
Odd final film for a trilogy for sure. I appreciate what was attempted. Just didn’t land for me.
I agree, a VERY odd story choice to end a trilogy especially when it’s marketed as “the final battle between Laurie and Michael!”
Omg was fantastic love the franchise think one of the best love it
Glad you enjoyed it!
IT STILL SUCKS
Have a good day
You too 😆
The one word: Cory.
Thanks!
This movie made me have a new fond respect for Halloween kills that's how bad this film was
I think A LOT of people feel the same way you do.
2:57 I'm not a parent, but I agree with the intro being unnerving. Something about seeing kids die (even if it's fictional and the kid is a jerk) makes me uncomfortable.
That death almost came across as humorous imo. It felt very Looney Tunes.
It seems fans are starting to warm up to it.
Some definitely will over time. It has some great moments, but overall as a bookend to a trilogy. The story literally makes no sense.
💯 Preach brotha!
That movie was trash from beginning to end. Its misleading fans about this grand finale battle between Michael and Laurie. If Michael was so weak he he didn't struggle with killing Deb.
Yes!!!
It's just ok. It's not worst movie of the franchise
The ending is the only part of the movie that I like. Everything else makes no sense from the previous two films, especially the two leads. I don’t foresee watching this until a very long time to give a second chance.
They did Michael dirty in this film hate this movie
Filming Michael getting beaten up by a kid who gets bullied by the marching band was a ridiculous writing choice for sure lol
@@MadBloodMatt definitely my friend this film made me mad lol fuck this film
It's a poorly written mess and I'll die on that hill
Couldn’t stand it. Kills, and ENDS.
This film was such a disrispectful waste of time.
damn you complaining hella
Did you love the movie?
It's called an opinion, with a bit of a review mixed in.
Hey I hate this movie also I hate Halloween Halloween kills Halloween ends I just find them so terrible
@@MadBloodMatt Very valid points! I think that would’ve been ideal.
This movie was horrible, I thought 2018 was great and kills was okay , but yeah, worst of the trio, I think .
It's really good for what it is. But not what it was marketed as or what people expected
The bastards definitely mislead people with the marketing. Buncha BS if you ask me.
Hands down the worst Halloween movie, it could’ve been so much better but the butchered it for “MoDeRn AuDiEncEs”
Idk I’d watch before the 2 remakes and resurrection
@@JPproductions303nah I’d watch those over ends
I'll never understand why people have this movie in the top 3 in the franchise. BUT I can understand why some folks have it last. It has its moments here and there but overall is mostly an incoherent mess to end a trilogy that started out very solid.
