Great lesson. There isn't enough quality lessons on musical rhythm for guitar on RUclips. Don't be discouraged because of the low views this lesson generated, since you care more about quality (that's the impression I get from your lessons) so I am sure you realize the immense importance of musical rhythm. I hope you will cover advanced rhythmic concepts in your future lesson videos.
Even if a melody is played using the right notes but people will have hard time recognizing it if the rhythm is incorrect, whereas a melody played using few wrong notes here and there can still be recognizable for the listeners if the rhythm is correct. I'd even dare to say rhythm is more important than notes. Please consider making a series on advanced rhythmic concepts.
it's impressive how easy is to stick to the end of your videos, thanks to how clear and simple, but yet well formulated and researched, the explanations are. Also I can always learn something even when I'm already fluent with the content of the video such as this one. Really happy to have found your channel !! keep up the awesome work!
That's an epic compliment, thanks man! Sometimes I watch my own videos and I think "will anyone actually watch this or find it useful", but comments like these make me happy I do what I do! :)
00:38 How do you decide/know/figure out how fast/temp those 4 beats are in the measure? Is there notation that tells you. How do you know how fast an eighth note will be (since a metronome can be set at different speeds, I figure ie half-notes can be played at different speeds?) Like a waltz tempo vs metal riff tempo, vs country music tempo per se. Ballad vs upbeat music. if I just had eighth notes in a measure is there only one speed that they could be played at? i JUST saw something on the Metronome that shows a 4/4 time signature. Is that it? Thanks!
You're so good dear Darryl. I'm advanced in age but a toddler in my guitar practice. I hope to better myself(actual aim is to be a master) in keeping perfect timing timing. With your videos I believe I can build my foundation. Thanks a ton 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks this is really great video been looking for something like this 👌 .. Question, if we are doing triplets are we still doing 4 beat per bar or is it 3
Yep, Sydney, Gate 32 if I remember correctly? You were wearing red Beats right? 😂😂😂 That wasn't my shit by the way... I just thought it would be hilarious to see who leaves their airdrop on in public. Thanks for being a good sport. When you replied with a guitar pic I was like "NO WAY THIS GUY PLAYS GUITAR - SAME, COINCIDENCE!!". I would've loved to say hi but I didn't want your family to think I'm some strange weirdo!
Darryl Syms Yep, that was me😂 I was lowkey looking for you. Btw what was that vid you sent me when there were these clamp looking things on your headstock?
Haha! I was sat on the same row as you, about 8 seats to your right 😛 Since I knew you were a guitar player I was searching through my camera roll for any pictures relevant to guitar, and that clamp one was just me in the midst of repairing my snapped headstock! Sad times, but all is good now. If you look at the headstock in my videos you can still see the crack!
Darryl Syms Ahh my worst nightmare especially because I own a Les Paul. I’m glad I left my airdrop on, I would never have found your channel; It’s pretty helpful 😆👌🏼
Ooooh that would be tearful! Thanks man, that's sweet of you - I'm glad you find the videos useful! Perhaps we'll cross paths again at the airport someday 😎😉

Thanks man, much appreciated! I will do advanced rhythm at some point yes! 🙂

Underrated video tbh. I absolutely loved it. Thank you very much sir for taking the time to make the video and clarifying this

Darryl Syms hell yeah 🤘
Excellent lesson, much appreciated!
You're welcome!
Darryl Syms I've been playing guitar for a long time but embarrassingly I wasn't quite sure how to apply this element of music.

how to use a metronome to learn a song if only a tab is given? no sheet music
Listen to the song, tap the song before playing it, or make up your own timing interpretation if you don’t have a reference 💁♂️
I don’t get it
Its all cool till i get a syncopated rhythm
