Chaim Bloom comes from a smaller organization like the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and he very very passive with the move he made. Ben Cherington was a aggressive GM when he came to Boston from the Diamondbacks organization, prior to Ben we had Theo Esptein we need a more aggressive GM than Chain Bloom.
While it's frustrating to lose a star player, giving a 30 year old an 11 year contract is nuts in any sport. It's easy to blame ownership but Bogarts and his agent were asking above market value for this guy and the Red Sox didn't think he was worth it.

Chris Brockman embodies the most annoying aspect of New England fans in this clip. They whine about everything. Blame things in hindsight. Why should anyone making decisions consider respecting someone that whines like a spoiled brat? The Sox should've pushed for an extension. But if Boras didn't want it, and wanted to take down the wire, what were they going to do? I find it extremely difficult to think anyone, least of all fans, could have predicted the markets' explosion for risky contracts. There were extenuating circumstances, and Boston fans immediately play a blame game because they can't accept reality. Just man up, this happens to every smaller market franchise every single time they have a good player, and you complain that it happens once to you. And don't bring Betts in because he was the casualty for signing terrible longer termed deals Dombrowski passed around like handouts.
Havent the Red Sox been like this for years though? They let Roger Clemens go. Let Wade Boggs go. Traded Garciaparra. Of course recently trading young talent like Moncada, Benintendi. Mookie gone. and now Bogaerts. You are going through what basically us Padres fans suffered for decades, either trading or not retaining our best players except for Mr Padre.
The problem isn’t necessarily the lack of winning during the last few years. The problem is ownership appearing to not show that they care enough to win in the future. As a Red Sox fan, I hope their new strategy to build a team will eventually work in their favor, but it definitely hurts to see our best players leave.
We pay for it in fan experience tho. Why should we let them leach league leading money from us while they let our favorite players go just to finance their purchase of the Washington Commanders and an NBA team? If they want to cut payroll, cut ticket prices and I and other fans would greatly temper our reactions
