Pete Carroll hasn't won a super bowl since 2016 but his teams are always solid and on the verge of the playoffs. If you want to make the argument that Pete can't doit anymore when's the last time Sean Payton won a SB? Harbaugh never has won one. Shady's point is odd.
GREAT HIRE! Every Head Coach in the AFC West has coached a team to a Super Bowl 3 of them, including Carol has won a Super Bowl. The Raiders needed this. Great Hire.
Great hire. They needed to match the experience of the other 3 coaches in that division. He'll bring in a young OC and draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round while building out the rest of the roster. Don't forget that he got Russell in the 3rd way back when.
This is the best raider hire I can remember. The raiders just need to not be a complete joke, Pete can do at least that. I’m kinda shocked the level of disrespect these dudes giving towards an overall elite coach. @@ysoserious784 Not really. He couldn't name an up and coming coordinator to give a shot at HC outside of Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn. "These guys need to be doing their homework" the Raiders did. Pete Carroll was the only option for that with a resume to back it up.
@ yeah they did their “homework” 😂. This was a mid hire. There’s a reason he’s not in Seattle. Just because there’s no more big name guys doesn’t mean there are no good candidates left. And I’m sorry yall must have forgot Andy Reid couldn’t spell championship before mahomes fell in his lap. Carroll objectively has the better resume without mahomes.
The disrespect towards Pete Carroll is ridiculous the amount of wins he was getting his last few years in Seattle with minimal talent until that last year
At this point and with the coaching option out there, hiring a coach with a name, track record and who brings discipline is the best option. You can’t fix all of the problems in one hire but Carroll checks off several important boxes for the Raiders
Sure Shady, they might as well not hire anyone. Good call dude. Ben Johnson wasn't leaving the Lions last year. Pete Carroll knows how to coach. The "new league" is nonsense, look at this year.
Pete is probably the best fit for the raiders right now he definitely is good at the building ….my man just old asf and might have aged out of the locker room a lil
This is more about what this hire and the Spytek hire signify. It’s about organization, competence, and stability. Carroll’s contract tells you this. 3 years with a team option on the 4th year. Carroll can groom the next coach for the future. Does this mean immediate Super Bowls? No. Does it mean getting the ship righted for competing for Super Bowls in the long term, yes? Sometimes doing the right thing isn’t sexy or entertaining. We tried that way several times in the last twenty years and what has it got us? 0 playoff wins. Time to try something different and also competent. Fellow Raiders fans, please be patient. In Brady, I trust.
Its sad how many fans aren't willing to be patient. We've tried it all, I'm happy we tried something different and I hope it works out. I'm ready to see what Brady can do. The Davis way hasn't worked in years, now let's see what the Brady way can do for us. A lot of haters cause of Carroll's age and the fact he took a break. He's in better shape than me and I'm 32. Even tho I'm not super thrilled about it, this feels like an actual "serious move". That doesn't happen in the Raiders. Shady doesn't understand the fact that the franchise is in the basement right now, of course you're not getting the hot guys... Pete might not win the damn division, but he'll surely leave the franchise in ground zero or better. Then we'll have another talk.
To the people whining that he is "too old" He is a healthy and energetic 73. I would bet good money he could smoke most of the "too old" naysayers in a 40 yard dash. Plus he is on a 3 year deal - option for 4th not a 10 year deal. He has a winning record, 2 conference titles, and was 1 play away from 2 SB titles. This is the best HC hire the Raiders have made since 1st Gruden (not 2nd). We now have a championship coach, championship GM (Bucs last title), and championship part owner in the building. Mark Davis get out of the way and let's these guys go to work. Finally, if nothing else Pete owns Harbaugh lol. The dischargers need to go back to being the doormat of the AFC West where they belong.
Reid in his condition at 66 is worse off time wise than Carroll is at 73. Lol Idk why people trippin about that like he ain’t healthier than some of these coaches in their 50’s even. 😂
During those down years on defense "Acho" talked about. Three of them they were top 15 with probably players most people can't even remember right now.
Pete will turn that team around. Who cares if he is 73 years old? He is definitely a players coach, and has always had a great connection with his players and staff.
This is one of the benefits of being a winning coach...Pete has a history of winning, so even when a winning coach starts to decline, they will still get opportunities because of their reputation...BUT THAT IS ONE OF THE BENEFITS OF HAVING A GOOD REPUTATION, as it relates to wins and loses on the football field.
Your philosophy doesn't weaken as you get older. It gets refined. Pete's voice may be lower, and he was never considered a premiere Xs and Os guy. Instead, the level of commitment demonstrated by his past organizations is second to none. I've had the pleasure to observe how Pete Carroll operates over the years. If the Raiders find a franchise QB during his stint, they will start to respect the game. When that happens, no team will play harder and yet looser at the same time. It's hard to communicate these principles online, but digging deeper into Pete's core values, how he's applied them to his organizations, and the buy-in he's achieved is breathtaking. In a cyclical game, I can foresee older head coaches gaining more credibility back with young players. The Raiders made an uncharacteristic move. That's a good thing for an uncharacteristically bad team. Pete Carroll hitting the reset button and being given the opportunity to build from scratch again is a scary thought.
He wasn’t losing in his last year. He was 9-8 the last two years. Maybe not incredible, but he only had one losing year in Seattle in 2021. These guys are just haters. Let’s prove them wrong!
I saw no real arguments against Carroll aside from age, and I'd argue Carroll while older by 6.5 years, is healthier and "younger" than 67 year old Andy Reid who clearly can't be in great health. The Raiders needed somebody to change the culture. They went after Johnson, he chose Chicago. What do you want them to do? Glenn went fast to NY, so with what was left? This is a good hire. He'll be there 3-4 years and at the very least install a good culture, which the Raiders have lacked for several decades now. The key for the Raiders long term is finding the right succesor so that when the foundation is laid with Pete, the guy who takes over is the right one to improve upon it.
I don't understand the ageism. He won a SB after four years in Seattle and went to another in five. He went 7-9, 7-9, 11-5, 13-3, 12-4 in his first five years. Four years from now he'd be 77. Big deal. There are CEOs who are in their 80's, running companies well.
Gotta forgive JJ for living in 2011 or so... that was the last time he was on a Relevant team, and it gives him warm fuzzy feelings remembering that... hence why he still champions McCarthy, Rodgers, etc, like it was still 2010.
Good hire Raiders, Pete is a very young energetic, healthy 73 (not overweight like Arians or Reid)...dude is a players coach & winning culture builder, a positive leader and competitor. He can absolutely coach with the AFC West HC Gauntlet of Reid, Payton and definitely Harbaugh who hated playing Pete's Seattle championship teams. No to Russ, he is washed, if new GM Spytek & Carroll want to do it right, I would some of their #2 Cap $$$ at Geno for a 2 year deal and just keep adding BPA talent this 2025 draft like one and done GM Telesco was trying to do with Bowers... Go WR Tetaroia McMillan or CB Will Johnson at #6, do a heat check on draft slotting for dual threat QB Jalen Milroe (maybe trade back into lower 1st if needed), or take Dillon Gabriel or Kyle McCord 3rd round (Raiders have 2 3rd's via the Adams to Jets trade) and get a big fast power RB like Kaleb Johnson paired with a Gibbs like big play speedster 'back in Treyveon Henderson....and keep adding to the trenches FA/Draft. *Also STOP WINNING LATE DECEMBER GAMES!! The last 3 years it has kept the Raiders from getting a good rookie QB Prospect - shoot if they never fired Josh McDaniels midseason and played hard for HC Pierce rest of 2023, Raiders would have had Caleb or Jayden or Maye or Penix Jr right now. And no matter how great Bowers can be, QB > OVER ALL OTHER POSITIONS OR YOU WILL NEVER MAKE PLAYOFFS CONSISTENTLY IN MODERN NFL.
WTF is shady talking about. We tried to get Ben Johnson and it failed. Pete was one of the best options available. We have to show the league that we can be stable before we can get the people they think we should have.
Raiders need the culture reset considering they didn't get Ben. That said. Why even bring Sean Payton into it? Pete won a title recently. Sean hasn't won a title since I was in HS.
Pete did develop players in Seattle, up until he was fired. Why are people forgetting players like DK, Woolen, K9, Witherspoon, Mafe, and many more and those are the recent ones.
And like I get the age thing but these people criticizing the pete Carroll higher just voted for a 78 year old to run the country 🤨.. regardless time don’t change history and Pete has shown the ability to build a roster …

What’s the other hot names that were out there that didn’t get picked up lol. He was the best choice left
I don't understand the ageism. He won a SB after four years in Seattle and went to another in five. He went 7-9, 7-9, 11-5, 13-3, 12-4 in his first five years. Four years from now he'd be 77. Big deal. There are CEOs who are in their 80's, running companies well.
Imagine a Shady and Ocho podcast
Gotta forgive JJ for living in 2011 or so... that was the last time he was on a Relevant team, and it gives him warm fuzzy feelings remembering that... hence why he still champions McCarthy, Rodgers, etc, like it was still 2010.
This is great news if you're a Raiders fan. They need a great coach to compete with Payton, Reid, and Harbaugh.
Raiders have a legacy of building playoff teams with NFL RETREADS...
Last time I checked Pete has a better resume than harbaugh.
It's funny, because now Brady can say he's owned Pete Carroll TWICE.
WTF is shady talking about. We tried to get Ben Johnson and it failed. Pete was one of the best options available. We have to show the league that we can be stable before we can get the people they think we should have.
This is a good hire for the Raiders.. Pete has a winning record and has beaten all of the coaches in the AFC West and that matters
Shady is acting like Pete has been out of coaching forever. His seasons in 2022-2023 weren’t great but he was still 9-8 and had some great drafts!
Shadys take was so bad he made JJ vouch for Carroll more than he initially wanted to lol.
He said 22 years without making the playoffs but yet Raiders made the playoffs during the 2021 season lost to Benglas
Reid, Payton and Harbaugh are on their second teams. So they all flamed out at some point. Now Pete has his second team...so we wait and see.
Bro the Raiders are lucky to have Pete Carroll! How have the raiders done the last 10 years? Lol thank you
Go James Jones. Put those Haters in check!!!!!!
This is was big Win for the Raiders, but they still need a quarterback.
Without a doubt, Brady had something to do with this. After all, Pete was instrumental in helping Brady win SB49
And like I get the age thing but these people criticizing the pete Carroll higher just voted for a 78 year old to run the country 🤨.. regardless time don’t change history and Pete has shown the ability to build a roster …
