Make sure to look over the old lens for little cracks before installing back into hot tub.

Hi, thank you for your reply. The make of the bath is LUYISI I don't know if you have ever heard of its unfortunately you can't fill it with silicone from underneath as it is a very tight space, the lense of the light screws off and is badly cracked so I filled that with silicone yesterday and tried it today but it still leaked through I have tried loads of places to buy a new lense for the light but no luck. No worries I'll keep searching and thank you for trying to help have a wonderful day 😊

💯Your suggestion to grab the light itself while putting it back in an turning the nut was really important 👍to bring to ones attention. I had to do that being by myself. Canadian Tire has a sale on the filter pliers you show that you use. I plan to head tomorrow to buy one. It appears I will need then to replace any jet gaskets that will most likely leak at some point. I have another question for you in one of your other replies. It is about how to repair medium density polyethylene roto molded hot tub that has a small drill bit size hole in it at the bottom of the hot tub in the foot basin area. Melting seems to be the only way for a bond due to the polymer molecular nature of Polyethylene. Adhesion is not possible with glues and epoxies. Anyway, when or if you see my reply to your reply there is more explanation for you. I sure do appreciate you preparing this video to help us newbies along! And a DIY"er female tackling the task! Go Girl power eh!😀💪

I have a Beachcomber. How do I get inside it? What kind/brand of silicone are you using? Thanks

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas
      @VIPPoolsandSpas  7 месяцев назад +1

Well. Most Beachcomber hot tubs you can't get behind the shell without breaking side panels. You should be able to replace the bulb from inside the tub. Carefully unscrew the front lens and pull out the light unit and replace with a new one. Check your manual for your hot tub year and model.

Jacuzzi has parts that are proprietary to them!. They also have the holes in the shell a little off so a lot of common parts can't fit. You can either fill it from the back side with silicone or take it apart and find a diameter of the opening of the hole and put there. I don't know the diameter.

Also... can I just silicone around lens and not replace it? My hot tub is from 90's

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas
      @VIPPoolsandSpas  2 года назад +2

If you can, undo the lens from the back, push it out a bit, silicone under the lip, then screw the nut back on the lens housing. A tub from the 90s would be a pain to do it that way, you'll have to get to the back of the lense.

I found out and repaired hot tub lens gasket and resealing it by using RTV silicone from permatex! Not the regular silicone.👍🇨🇦

Hey, I just found one leak in the roto molded 2 person hot tub and it was the light! I spent a total of about 4-5 hours removing the spray foam and was wondering why around the jets the spray foam was not wet! Lots of patience needed, and time, to get to the leak, from underneath.....but even the Prince Edward Island, CAnada, service hot tub guy who came and only looked around the panel area MISSED SEEING the leak!!! In talking with him I felt he was not sincere and I lacked confidence in his ability....received an invoice for 127 dollars! This is what we call making "stupid money" off of people. I am going to challenge it and fortunately I videod his time here. He arrived in an unmarked van, unannounced, no kit indicating he worked for a hot tub company, startled me with his unplanned arrival and it felt like he was more of a sales person than a person willing and interested in wanting to fix it. He spent maybe 15 minutes on his knees by the one panel door looking at the plumbing....and the light was inches away from his eyes and he didn't even bother to recognize, as taught in YT repair videos, that one popular leak is the light!
After I had this experience and things did not "sit well with me" about this guy, and I called Island hot tub and pools to talk with the office manager to follow up, which was another disappointing experience, I decided to start looking and learning on YT from people who had repaired leaks.
Boom! With amazing help from YT I worked patiently removing spray foam, but figuring out how to jack it up, say 24 inches, so I could get underneath it to pull foam and find the plumbing.
I like the Spa Man channel and Spa guy Channel....they actually give you pro tips and show you the repair in real time while working on client tubs, problem solving along the way.
Remember, it is a hot tub in the backyard that is heated, blows bubbles through hoses. That is all it is so don't go crazy! Lots of patience, so I worked at it a few hours per day and kept the area clean which helps mentally in moving the task forward.
I will reseal with silicone and then continue to fill up the hot tub gradually watching each layer of jets that the water passes over to catch any other leaks.
Cheers from East Canada......Honestly, RUclips is an amazing resource to help us DIY"ers! Awesome!

Good that you find videos on RUclips that help you out. Its really not that hard to fix a hot tub, but like you said. Its the patience that is needed. Some leaks are way harder to find and most times it very hard to record. Plus, each tub will be different but most leaks will always be in common area where they fail. Just because the tub leaks out the left side, doesn't always mean, its on the left side.

@@VIPPoolsandSpas I was wondering what you or anyone in the community here has done to replace the spray foam that I took out from around all the jets? I saved all the bits. They are all dry, which is what I found suspicious because it is was a jet then the spray foam would have been soaked. I did NOT find any higher up area spray foam that was wet and there is NO foam around the spa light, only the white residue from the drying up from the spa light leak.
The spray foam bits, soft open cell, are all dry. Do I put some in garbage bags(a vapour barrier??) and stuff it back into the roto molded cavity around the plumbing to try to reinstate the integrity of the plumbing? Or do I use rockwool and figure out a vapour barrier situation, which was what the garbage bag suggestion might address. Cheers from East Canada.🇨🇦💯
The service person that dropped by didn't even notice it was 6 inches from his nose when he poked his head in where the one door panel was to visually take a look! He wants over 120 dollars for poking around and wasting my time! Imagine! Anyway, it was the spa light gasket that was cracked. I have to go buy a pair of those handy filter pliers wrench even though I already figured out how to remove the nut by using a narrow adjustable clamp. The RTV silicone is curing, a 24 hour minimum to wait, 72 is better, before I continue to fill up the rest of the hot tub. I am counting on that being the only leak because I did the pro tip of draining the water slowly and noting when the drips I was catching outside the hot tub would stop. The dripping stopped just below the highest layer of jets. I didn't notice that the light was at the same level so I thought it was one or more of the jets. It explains why then the dripping stopped once the water was below the spa light.
This has been a very good learning experience. The more I do things myself the better off things are because I understand how to fix it the next time. Thanks to all the youtube channels that are so helpful to help us learn.!
I wanted to check in with this video to understand more about what that area of the hot tub is about.
      Cheers from East Canada.🇨🇦
Really appreciate your vid! I am repairing a leak in roto molded 2 person hot tub by myself. Hot tub service here on Prince Edward Island with Island hot tubs and pools is horrible! The frustration in discussions with them, lack of confidence in their ability to figure out where the leak is, has motivated me to go to youtube and search out all hot tub repair eager people.

For the spray foam (I put the stuff I took out back in). No need for more or any type of spray foam at all. Remember, your equipment has to cool down somehow. Don't want to jam foam or installation under the tub and make it hotter. If you have a jet or even a light , more then likely there are others or there will be others. Over time the gaskets do dry out and they do leak.
Finding a leak can sometimes be hard and costly so its good you can do it yourself.
In Ontario, I do charge $125 for a service call. Covers 1 hour and includes drive time. My price last year was $85.

@@VIPPoolsandSpas Hi there. 💯Well thank you so much 🙏for your input and perspective. I also appreciate what the going cost is for a service call in Ontario and compare it to what unexpectedly I was charged.
I am so glad I kept all the spray open cell material. My gut told me to not immediately throw it out even after not seeing on YT what repair people did once they took it out. Of course, some of it was wet. But still, knowing to replace it with say, rock wool, something easy to pull out for the next
      leak, would have been appreciated.
Have you ever had to repair a roto molded polyethylene material hot tub because of a small drill bit size hole that needs to be plugged? I have googled hours about how to fill in a hole of polyethylene and discussions with a senior friend out in another province who is a DIY'er gave some of his idea's, but never had a hot tub to deal with.
I have a solder iron and one comment researching on the topic made it clear that plastic, polyethylene, has special polymer arrangements that it makes it difficult to find glues for bonding. It is apparently clear I have to melt the material. The comment went on to say that using identical material is very important. He used a cut out piece he found on the hot tub panel door to melt and fill in the crack. That way he knew the polyethylene repair was going to last and hold. He melted it in and this is how the polymers bond for a solid repair.
I was thinking I would get a few tiny pieces from around the rectangular openings from under the hot tub and also practice a few times on another object to see how the solder iron works and how the polyethylene piece behaves.
Unfortunately the small drill size hold is located at the bottom of the hot tub in the foot basin area. When I jacked up the hot tub 25 inches or so and was underneath it I could tell water had accumulated on the floor of the hot tub. In the center there was a sort of plastic sealed plug. I thought why not gently use a small drill bit and poke it so the water will drain into the bucket I had ready.
Well, I didn't realize that I had gone up slightly too far in and it punctured the foot basin of the hot tub.
Such a shame I made that mistake. Do you have any suggestions besides what I mentioned? What ever the material to plug the small drill bit hole it has to be able to withstand Bromine as a chemical and hot water and every 3-4 months I drain it so therefore the temperature would be cool for 20 hours or so before I get the water temperature up to 100F or so.
I really look forward to your input. I would have to fix the small drill size hole of the hot tub base as well with the same material. In that situation though I am working from underneath it so dripping the heated polyethylene into that hole while I am underneath it won't work.
AT the moment, while waiting for the RTV silicone to cure for over 24 hours I placed tuck tape over the hole with an attempt to use the glue gun plastic melted in the hole from when I was underneath it. It was my first try not realizing that polyethylene is a really bugger to repair because glues and epoxy's don't adhere to it unless it has the same polymers as the Polyethylene material, which is a medium density polyethylene in this roto molded hot tub, not Low density PE and not High Density PE but medium.
Lots of High Density PE around. It is the triangle with the number 5. But this roto molded hot tub is made from medium polyethylene. Medium polyethylene is a combination of Low with high, to get the best of both of them for an ideal material for a hot tub.
      Whoosh! Lots to learn eh!🙃👍🇨🇦

I just repaired the light leak, and the gasket was cracked. Instead of waiting for the gasket from the manufacturer I make the gasket from the RTV silicone, Permatex. Canadian Tire sells it. I guess there are other silicone's available where a gasket can be made ! Cool stuff! The silicone RTV was in the automotive department at Canadian Tire. Hope that helps.👍 🇨🇦

Caution .. do NOT over tighten the nut on the lens. We have a nearly brand new (6mo old) and the rim around the lens has broken, causing a leak. I am suspecting this was caused by an over tightening of the nut on the lens. I drained the hot tub and ordered a new lens, when I went back to work on it again, more of the rim of the lens had broken. This would indicated that any swelling of the tub itself, or any material underneath the nut, has cause additional stress and fractured the rim of the lens. BTW, trying to work on a new Artesian Island Spa to replace this lens is proving to be a monumental task, and this is probably the easiest of the lights to replace. ugh!
