    Interesting stuff! I'm currently in the process of characterising a B. rochalimae-like novel strain of Bartonella here in the UK as part of my MSc using comparative genomics. Didn't expect to find such an informative video on RUclips on the medical side of things.

    I’m about to take my triple draw Galaxy lab test tomorrow. I hope it gives me more information on how to treat whatever is causing my burning pain because nothing I’ve thrown at it is working.

      I hope the triple draw brings you the answers you need but remember the diagnosis of bartonellosis is still a clinical diagnosis! ❤️

    I gave all my daughters lyme and bartonella. My ex took my children when they were little. Should I worry they still have horrible bartonella streaks were never treated and they are 17 and 20 my oldest daughter died at 28 from it . My ex would not let the younger two get treated. I'm worried about them my oldest one has a lot of psych issues ( my 20 yr old) arthritis etc... gi issues. I dont know what to do I am dying from lyme and bartonella no money for a lyme doctor my main worry are my 2 daughters still alive.

      That is a great question and thank you for that idea. I will look that up and continue to learn about RUclips's algorithm. I do know that the most important way that videos are found is through the title of the video

    Great video! I might have missed it but is there an opinion from you and Dr. Elam on if spread from mom to baby in utero is possible?

    • @BartonellaBabe
      @BartonellaBabe  3 года назад +2

      So the first thing I want to make clear is that the transmission between Bartonella and Borrelia (or any other microbe/pathogen) cannot be extrapolated from one to the other and Bartonella and Borrelia are two completely different bacteria so I just am going to speak on Bartonella.
      There is one documented case of in utero transmission of Bartonella in the literature so we know it's possible, we just don't know how probable is. Link here: jcm.asm.org/content/jcm/48/6/2289.full.pdf
      I think transmission is best thought of possible vs. probable. Cat transmission studies have not been able to document perinatal transmission and cats have a much higher level of bacteria (up to 1 million times more) in their blood than humans. At the same time, human studies will need to use the most up to date technology to see how often perinatal transmission occurs and we know that PCR historically has been not that sensitive because of low bacteria levels.
      And then the question becomes, even if it is transmitted, how relevant is it clinically? At this point, Bartonella experts focus on shared environment (same flea infestation, for example) as the most likely method of transmission. Bartonellosis is a vector-borne disease. People are very convinced that heir kids contracted bartonellosis congenitally or perinatally but I think there are other possible explanations worth considering. Kids share a lot of genetics and epigenetic factors with their parents which may predispose them to becoming ill. Sometimes many family members get ill and maybe it's because of one flea infestation with a particularly virulent strain.
      Long story, short: We need more research into this topic and until we have that, we should be careful with our language about what the literature has shown and not shown
