    Wow. Just incredible. Look how nice everything looked. This is just an absolute trip back in time for me. I would have been 8 years old, riding these very same trains with my parents.
    It's incredible that this reflects exactly how I remember it being, not all that different from today and yet it seems like a whole other world.
    Thanks to those who took the time to film this and to share it. Simply amazing.

    • @clarkesuperman

      This was so great to see. So nice to see everything before the vandalism and drug use has taken over.
      Really cool to see that 75st/Fort Road (now Wayne Gretzky Drive) was still at-grade with the LRT tracks. This was before the Grant Moellmann Bridge was constructed.
      Also really cool to see the remnants of the CN rail tracks that ran along side even west of 95st into downtown. This was before they were ripped up and replaced with the multi-use bike trail which we still have today, unfortunately riddled with the above mentioned issues.
      Your channel is spectacular by the way. Nice to see you here sharing these memories as well. My parents raised me in Clareview, so the LRT was a huge part of my life. Once I got old enough to explore on my own, West Edmonton Mall became my second life. Thanks for your documentation!

    Here's an absolutely useless bit of trivia for you... Four days before this was filmed, Metallica performed in Edmonton at the Coliseum. Their self-titled "black album" was making waves at the time. Must have been a great time to be a fan; they're one of my all time faves! 🤘

      And yet, platforms were designed to accommodate at least 5! Whereas now we have the line to NAIT and NAIT's station can only accommodate 3. Meanwhile they can't arrive more frequently than 5 minutes on this line because they've designed too many street crossings into the southside extension, and stations like Century Park are too small to accommodate existing passenger loads anyway (so they get super crowded and jammed up at the escalators during rush hour).

    Ohhh boy do I miss these days when you could walk into a nice clean and fresh LRT station whether it was a downtown one or even coliseum and not have to see homeless, screaming and acting stupid or trash sprewn about and when you see a cleaner doing a station it's far and few between and it always seems to be an Immigrant that walks slower that a slug and can't even pull their heads out of their butts if their life depended on it much less clean anything....I could do a 100 laps before these people could even pull a broom out of the cleaning cart once. Those were the days of care and concern of these iconic times and stations and I MISS THEM DEARLY.

    While I think the newer cars are more advanced and therefore obviously better. I always liked the older styled cars more. They kinda resemble the ETS Busses in a sense and its so unique :)
    I VERY VERY rarely ever see those types of cars anymore its always the newer cars that are used :/

    Amazing how they only used a couple cars, and yet, platforms were designed to accommodate at least 5! Future capacity planning in action.
    Whereas now we have the line to NAIT and NAIT's station can only accommodate 3. Meanwhile they can't arrive more frequently than 5 minutes because they've designed too many street crossings into the southside extension, and stations like Century Park are too small to accommodate existing passenger loads anyway (so they get super crowded and jammed up at the escalators during rush hour). What happened to capacity planning?

    • @hj-mh1ge
      @hj-mh1ge 5 лет назад +2

      David Yup the original stations were so well built and planned. They definitely did plan for the future to accommodate 5 cars for a bigger population.

    • @one42chrisp
      @one42chrisp 4 года назад +2

      Both Belevedere and Clareview could only take 3 cars when they were first built, but they were built with the expectation of expansion to 5 car capacity.

    • @rwrynerson
      @rwrynerson 3 года назад +2

      Somewhat coincidentally the U2 cars were designed to run in multiples up to 5 cars. Fire marshals therefore required that subway stations be built to handle evacuation of two crush loaded 5x car trains.
