I was there, too...I was literally 20 ft from him when this happened and I've told this story MANY times!!!!
Personally, I think he won the crowd over. The line up was The Stones, Rush, AC/DC, Sam Roberts, The Flaming Lips...the crowd was pretty rock heavy and JT pretty freshly solo, if I recall.
What he isn't telling: he jammed with his band during Señorita. It went on for a while, if I recall.. he really showed that he could play and when he left the stage, the people around me cheered him off. He was amazing and professional. I think he earned a lot of respect, tbh.. He earned mine, anyway..

I was there working at the event (which was a fundraiser during the SARS crisis) and saw him catch a bottle right before it hit his head and toss it aside mid-song, and was highly impressed by his lateral moves and reaction speed. He also apologized to the crowd and was like "I know, I know, bear with me"....keep in mind the crowd was a bunch of 50 year old 70s 80s kids who were high as f***. And yes there were a LOT of people there.
I dunno why but this made me happy to read, lol. He's such a good sport. Remember, be tenacious 👍

@@XercesandAlexander yes. I remember the concert and very few ppl under 25 went to this thing, and even less cared for front-row spots, since it would've meant a whole day of standing there to save your spot.

C H His manager did not book this show for him. Justin personally got a call from Mick Jagger to join the charity event. Remember he was probably just 21 or 22 at the time, how do you say no to Mick Jagger?
And at a charity concert no less, ya sure he didn't exactly fit the theme, but grow up people.
This is the kind of thing that makes people look at certain groups as though they are childish and immature. Even if it was not everyone doing it by any means, it still reflects badly on the whole group sadly.

I remember when this happened, I had deep respect for him for staying on that stage and completing his set. I remember the next day the National media outlets commenting on his character for staying on that stage, for a charity event (SARS), and having bottles thrown at him. Class act.
On behalf of Toronto, I apologize for the rude behaviour demonstrated that day. It was inexcusable.

I was there. I was very disappointed in peoples behavior. He did incorporate his dodges into his dance moves. Respected him more after that day. Lost respect for the people there. As he had mentioned it was an odd event for him to play, but he volunteered. Kudos to JT!

Justin is definitely a great person. He doesn't show any anger towards these HIGHLY disrespectful people (at the concert, not at The Graham Norton Show lol) or talk about them with derogatories. Also, despite having bottles of URINE thrown at him during that first song, he continued with the fundraiser and did another song. I don't think anyone would have blamed him if he cancelled the rest of his songs after the first, but he stuck it out. He is a true performer and deserves all of the fame and fortune that he has amassed. Definitely a wonderful person deserving of a happy life.

CanadaCraig I’ve seen it at other classic rock shows where the opening act didn’t fit into the macho rock mould. Not as bad as this scenario, but just a lack of tolerance for different types of music. So, I believe it.

I went to that concert, and yeah I wasn't a JT fan, went there to see the bigger bands, but I agree it was totally rude for people to do that.
Despite the fact that I always loathed NSync, that Timberlake kid turned out to be a solid dude all around, and one helluva musician, with a damned good sense of humor. Kudos to him.

You know it’s gonna be a traumatic story when the guy sounds like he’s turning into John Malkovic while he’s telling it.
I was at the concert and against the fence stage side.It was a very hot day and people were getting dehydrated so i told a securty guard that people are having problems and need water.Then they brought out bottled water and gave them to the crowd.That's where the bottles came from thanks to me.You're welcome!😂
i was there it was terrible behavior. he was great! his band was fantastic he put on a great show. he was the opening act of the evening performances. as soon as he came on stage the entire crowd stood up and started moving closer towards the stage for the evening acts. the worst part was that he was the only performer i think that took no money and paid for the entire travel for his band and crew. ac/dc stole the show. it was great day. 500,000+ ppl, not a cloud in the sky 30c no shade and fun as hell. if anyone else was there the dude running on top of the semi trucks in the middle of the crowd was the of the funnest part of the night lol.

I was at that concert, I was in high school at the time. It was SARS stock. I have to say, it was weird Justin Timberlake was there given the lineup but it was really embarrasing & disgusting as a Canadian what the audience did to him. But yeah, this story is 100% true.

I was there. Half million people. Only two arrests. The worst thing that happened was Justin and the water bottles. When he came back on stage later with the Stones to help with Miss You. The water bottles started again and Keith Richards went to the front of the stage pointing at those few fans who were tossing them and was calling them out.
The urine part is hyperbole, it was just water bottles but the rest of the story is pretty accurate.
Plot twist: the people who threw the bottles were the people SARS was supporting

So ya he 'Uhhh'd' a lot but its not a story he tells often and honestly I think it made ppl pay more attention.. the come back after all the questions was great. I enjoyed the story.
I was at that concert and saw him take one to the head. At the time it only appeared to be a water bottle as every one had them cause it was so far back to the area to get drinks and use the bathroom. Which is probably why their was urine in some of the bottles because people didn't want to lose there place at the front. To be fair the other acts were not really a good fit for him but his show was really good.
