3)I want to ask her out, she's so nice and interesting.
4)It's not late to 'back out' if you want to.
    5) I haven't been working out in a good way but I'm sure I'll 'bounce back' again.
    6) Hey 'budge up' in order to grandma sit down here with us.
    7) This new haircut has 'caught on' men this summer.
    8) Don't be so lazy and start to study grammar you can still 'catch up' .
    9) I 'cottoned on' quickly about what was going on that night.
Correct me if I'm wrong with any sentence
    I'd Appreciate it.

I'm a native American speaker who took on a Peruvian student to teach English. The subject of phrasal verbs came up and I had to educate myself as to what they are. With a blessing, I found YOU. Your voice is amazingly clear and elegant. I pride myself on having a very neutral, clear, accurate manner of speech but you are my English equivalent in the least. I'm hoping Alexander will adopt your channel for his B2 Cambridge exam. Your data and performance are absolutely the best. Thank you!!

Please explain: "Tell us about your learning ethics". I got asked that and even though I deem myself very well versed in English (despite not being a native speaker) I did not know what this phrasal verb meant and I do think this cost me the job to some extent.

A few differences in US versus British usages, if I may: We "clock out" NOT "clock off" here in the US. In America we don't use "get on with" someone, we say "get along with" here in the US. I've never heard "COTTON ON" here in America. To "pop in" is British, we don't use that phrase here. Also "set off" as in "leave" ....we seldom use that here. To "wear in"........in the US we "break in": We "break in" a new pair of shoes. LOVE your videos!

Professor, please, I need you to help me with a question about the "ing" and its usage in a peculiar way. Here some examples of it; "My sister's listening to loud music irritates me" .... "his arriving late makes me so mad" ... "I didn't like his interrupting us"... I've noticed something related to the possessive form but, unfortunately, I didn't understand the reason why or how to use it properly. Could you please give us some light on this subject? Thank you so much, always. ;)

    • @biankapaloma
      @biankapaloma 6 лет назад +1

james cesari hi, your question has to do with verbs(in -ing form) becoming nouns. The actions, the verbs, become somebody's actions but not as verbs but describe something they possess as a personal trait or something like that.
Ex: His disagreing is getting me upset.

Speaking is the biggest issue for foreigners NOT BCZ THEY LACK FLUENCY....but LACK THE WORDS TO COMMUNICATE WHAT THEY MEAN TO SAY PRECISELY COMPLETELY & LAST CONCISELY.....The sol is to have in your repertoire sth: vocabolary word/phrasal verb/idiom that has the meaning of what u mean to say so best way is to group them for action depending on severity of action & the opposite eg canter walk run .. speed up opp slow down set off /start stop

I'm terrible snowed under with work these days, I'm afraid, but I'm looking forward to having some spare time and watching this compelling video!
    Cheers Gideon!

I'm also snowed under but it's better to chill out and while away your time in some pointless pursuit.

I have one question: How many phrasal verbs do you consider an adult native knows (although they don't use them all)? 😊
