Cool video series! The Wilga actually never was fitted with an autopilot, adding it in was just a simulator concession to allow pilots to step away from the controls ;-)
We had Wilga's as glider tugs at our gliding club. That was what they were designed for. Apparently, if the engine cut out, they flew like a brick, so on a Sunday, when loads of people were sat in their cars watching the fun on the airfield, the tug pilots would practise engine out landings. This involved cutting the engine, diving vertically at the ground(!) and pulling up at the last minute to land!! Looked spectacular, but you wouldn't get me in one!!
