I think that quote makes him an ignorant ass. He obviously doesn't know shit about "rock" or should I say music with real instruments... If he was even remotely aware of music he wouldn't say that
And this is why Eurorack is great, because you have all these beautiful black and silver designs, and then this guy comes with a screaming yellow panel with a huge ass tube sticking out of it and going "haha, fuck you!"
I got a hold of a few vaccum tube test equipment oscilators, I incorporated them into my modular system, they have a sound that is unique and they sound different according to how warm they are, I started running a sequence and then switched on those oscillators from cold and sampled the output, I got some very weird results.
You are the man. Your inventions are so musical and expressive. If it's too noisy you're too old right?! I only wish I could ever have a chance to see or touch anything you make. I worship tubes, play p90 pickups, valve amps, and all things that feel real. From the way your controls work nonlinearly to the weird tubes to the names I love it all. The fact that there are less than 60 comments is insane whether these things are available or not. Anyone who says they're into analog has to love this and if they don't I'm not sure they're actually into analog. I understand why I can't get one due to the rarity and other factors, but I don't like it! I'd travel from Georgia to wherever to encounter some of that amazing equipment.
If no one else mentioned this below, Eric wrote some nice history articles on various tube types, back in the day, for Glass Audio and some other mags... look'em up. Great interview!
Great interview. He missed out on guitar players like me who wanted my guitar to sound like anything but a guitar. Oh well, I keep hoping to find some of his offensive guitar related products.
The creator of "The Foock1ng Fuck3r" himself. The only amp in the world with 23 tubes that can only stay turned on for a couple of hours before getting on fire.
I have 4 or 5 of his units.. I bought when they came out... really glad I did.. he is amgry sound , and we all need the angry guy shaking his fist at us ... we deserve it... we are little shits.
If you think THIS is cynical and jaded you should ask him what he REALLY thinks in private. Heh. I assembled 18 TM-2s, BTW. Thank "Bob" that there were no SMD components.
No hes not. Hes angry. His experiwnce is not everyone elses. Analog is dead? Sounds like wishfull thinking out of his own spite. Analog is just being born
@@user-vd3if4wq6m >analog is just being born It sounds nice and poetic when you say it like that, but how do you figure? The overwhelming majority of consumer-grade audio, computing technologies, and even professional recording studios are digital these days. Sure there's been a resurgence of interest in analog among audiophile and musical instrument markets but that's an insignificant fraction of the electronics market. Also, most of the circuits these markets use are from the 70s, with maybe a few "weird" ones from the 80s. There's very little innovation in analog circuit topologies these days, save for a component swap here or there either to save money or get a desired sound. If analog circuit design isn't dead, it's at least moribund.
Don't know about the rest, but he describes most guitarists I/have know/n, at least the ones who have no interest in electronic music, to the tee which made me crack up laughing out loud when I watched the doc. Both the first, second AND third time I watched it.
Vacuum tubes are neither disgusting nor inherently noisy, it's mostly subpar engineering, disgusting layouts, and general lack of familiarity with the valve technology. He has my thumbs down, I've lost all interest in anything he has to say.
Greatest audio related interview in RUclips history.
You have to love this guy
I second that! The most liberating thrashing tirade, if there ever was one.
"I think rock is dead and they are sodomising the corpse.." this is the point where I wanted to know more about this guy 😂 legend
I think that quote makes him an ignorant ass. He obviously doesn't know shit about "rock" or should I say music with real instruments... If he was even remotely aware of music he wouldn't say that
Re watching this clip--good to hear your voice again Eric! I miss your wholesome positivity.
hahaha well it's ac so +/-~
The disdain for everything is epic. Thank you for this. More Eric Barbour!

I love this mans attitude...
I'm wiping the cynicism off my screen...
Came here after watching the Superbooth 2021 guys interview him. I was not disappointed. Great interview!
Somehow after a passage of time I now get the metasonix thing. That was a great interview/monologue too.
Pro-tip: stick around past the credits for Eric's opinion on NYC
That was the topper. I'm rollin

LOL
Him and Paul Schreiber are my favorite modular people to hear talk.
Absolutely love his modules, too.

Eric Barbour, you are the best.
This guy's great.
Hes cool.... Alittle to depressing though
I think I love my Metasonix modules even more now
max marco how many have you got ?
Great interview. He missed out on guitar players like me who wanted my guitar to sound like anything but a guitar. Oh well, I keep hoping to find some of his offensive guitar related products.
The most relatable personality in the synth world, for me 😂😂😂
That was THE Best
I like this dude.
Eric is one of a kind great guy
I want him to teach me to make gear like him so when he cant work anymore i wanna keep metasonix going

Legend
Im an audio engineer as well. I love this guy
He's like the Gene Simmons of electronics! 🤣😉
When you push vacuum tubes into their no-linear regions, sure; they can be erratic. Or if they're gassy. They are also very forgiving. Malleable.
fuck, this guy is the shit.
he's humble ,ill give em that
The best thing about all this is that he is completely right.
No hes not. Hes angry. His experiwnce is not everyone elses. Analog is dead? Sounds like wishfull thinking out of his own spite. Analog is just being born
analog is just being born? don't kid yourself buddy

Me at the convention........That's all very interesting sir, but I just wanted to know where the restroom is.
Eric Barbour can shit in a box and sell the sound it made.
BrAp oN!!¡!🎹
Now a gotta have his modules.
He just wants you to know he is sooooooo CRAZY
Pfffffft lol
Love it
the man himself.
Still good
I want to see him and Josh from JHS chat
Eric would purposely make Josh cry. And I'd love to see it.
This interview alone made me buy a Metasonix module! Hail free speech!
If Eric Didn’t exist we would have to make one.
I still stand by this statement. I have to check in with him every year or so just to get oriented to reality.
Rock n Roll is dead. Punk is dead. Give me some Filter bank

I think maybe mummy didn't give him enough hugs as a little boy
political incorrectness ftw
