Open the back cavity cover, then use the Philips screw driver fully turn down the preamp gain trim pot . YOu will get equal output within passive/active mode.
Been seeing other reviews , some people complaining about the preamp buzzing. Perhaps a qc / grounding issue. Wondering if this has been addressed or it’s a case by case situation.
Mine had noise issues, I added cooper foil to ground and adjusted the preamp to match the passive output and the noise was gone. Some leave the factory with the preamp maxed and yeah it increases the noise floor ALOT. I have to say I wish I had a passive tone control but it’s certainly great that if your battery dies you can pull the volume pot and keep going.
Instantly following your channel. Great work. I would love to see a Charvel PJ Bass vs. Fender PJ Bass Video, searching forever on youtube to see such a video. Cant decide between the 2 and never played a Fender PJ. If you dont do it i will do it in the future 😅😂 Keep on grinding
Thanks for this review! I've gone through about 17 electric guitars in the last 2 years, mostly American and Japanese, what blew my away was how good the Mexican Charvel's were. Now I'm in the market for a bass guitar and I think I have to go with Charvel, knowing how good their products are for the price.
great playing! loved the chord section especially. i've been really interested in getting into bass; have a charvel dk24, love it and was wondering if their basses are as good as their 6-strings, and i think your fantastic review really makes this model shine!
It is a nice sounding bass. I think perhaps there was a QC issue with previous models shown in other videos. The pickups are an acquired taste, i have model Js and they took time to figure out. I think I would prefer to use them with a preamp, that is what I'm considering for that bass. Great demo!
I bought one of these in natural mahogany two weeks ago - I have never played a bass with such a nice neck!! It really is an awesome bass with a lovely growl to it.
Beautiful playing Dave. I owned a Charvel GG and previously a Mexican Pro Mod. The necks on them are insane. They feel perfect. I play an Ibanez roasted maple with stainless frets and it feels just weird. Great review great playing but you should say where this one is made. Mexico right? Who makes the preamp?
Yeah, those necks are really special. The bass is made in Mexico but I'm not sure who makes the preamp. Nothing inside that would clearly indicate a specific company so I assume it's probably DiMarzio? Thanks for watching!
I hope newer versions of this bass have the noise issue resolved! Anyone care to comment on if there are any noise issues (if they've recently purchased this bass)?
There were a lot of negative reviews when these first came out so maybe there were some issues Charvel fixed. I know the one I purchased is a really great sounding bass. Thanks for watching!
Looks like the newer San Dimas Pro Mod models have a grounded metal case around the pre-amp circuit board to improve screening etc. They may have done something to improve screening around the pick-ups as well.
Mine came with a RIDICULOUSLY low action and was buzzy as hell. After adjusting the truss rod, it’s clicky as hell. There’s definitely big string on fret clicking going on…

Thanks for watching and good to know there's a trim on the preamp. I should have covered that in the video. 🙏

I think you sir, just sold me on this bass.
Liked and subscribed.

I've looked at those also. Reverend makes great instruments. Thanks for watching!

I've put the Fender vs Charvel on my list. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching!
It reminds me of a Fender Precision, but with super powers!
Thanks for this review!

Totally agree, thanks for watching!
I love mine. I backed that gain from pot down, and mine is fine.

you have passive switch, but no Tone knob por using when passive
Yeah, that sucks. Thanks for watching!
Did they fix the grounding issues on these? I had one but had to return due to this issue a few years ago
