Thanks Stephen, I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. What's even more impressive is that the bass was one he was delivering to a student and he had only played it for a couple of hours before filming this! His student has a very special instrument and incredible teacher!
@@DiscoverDoubleBass Yes. I hate playing someone else's bass (especially upright). It reminds me of when I started driving. I struggled to drive anyone else's car. Now it is (usually) no problem at all. I suspect that a player who tours a lot, especially internationally, is used to borrowing basses all the time. Do many upright players travel with an instrument these days? Too many horror stories! Added expense as well.
@@Steviec63 Yes, most that work with us don't travel with their bass, but some do. I find it hard to play others so would always try and find a way, but I can't imagine it would be an easy thing to do :-)
Stephen, many thanks for your kind words, much appreciated! :) As for touring, I actually always fly with my bass, I have a very light weight case, and actually, I find that generally, the difficulty of this is massively exaggerated: if you know a few trick and use airlines that do not apply oversize charges, it is pretty easy. Done several thousand hours on planes with basses, only one major incident (“touch wood”, I know...!) in some 30 years of touring!
It would be really great to get information about how he sets up his instruments, what kind of strings he uses, what kind of pick ups he uses. These things are so incredibly important when it comes to playing at your top level And many of us forget to take this into consideration.
I have heard different advice about what part of the thumb should touch the string, but I like Yuri's advice much better. It's less painful, and you can't argue with his results!
This was a really cool video! I have only been playing classical music, but i have always wanted to learn some jazz bass lines, and was wondering if i get the sheet music for his amazing performance.
Brilliant player and his sound is incredible. Bravo
What a player! What a sound! Superb. I have had the privilege of seeing Yuri play live three or four times and he is always stunning.

Glad you enjoyed the video. I'm afraid we don't have a transcription of the solo, but he's improvising over the jazz standard Autumn Leaves.

Do you know who made the bass Yuri is playing here?
It’s a modern Hungarian bass but I don’t know the maker.
Tibor Tabanyi :) Can share contacts with you if you like
What are the strings he is using ?
We've just shared a video on that topic which you can view here: ruclips.net/video/yWQyGuIvXSg/видео.html

Great rendition of black orpheus
What is the name of the opening music!!!
It's written and performed by Craig Butterfield and the full composition will be featured in future.
Thanks, he’s a killer bassist.
