    Hachiko's owner, Hidezaburo Ueno, was a professor at my university, and the statue shown at 1:08 was built on his Faculty campus depicting the scene where they were reunited in heaven. Nice touch considering the more iconic statue of him at Shibuya Station just immortalized his wait.

      Before i got my Akita Inu i was in a very dark place in life. I stopped going outside and was turning slowly but surely in to a hikikomori. Than my Son decided to buy me a Akita. I owned dog’s before, so i knew all the basics. When Akiyama my Akita arrived he was 8 weeks old. It was instant love on the first sight. Day for day i hade to walk him outside and this broke my confinement at home. I started to see the beautiful thing’s in life again, like the Sun going up in the morning, my Akita wiggling his tail when i he saw me, the reaction of the people outside who many times started conversation’s with me about my Akita and so on gave me new energy and purpose. Meanwhile my Doggie is 4 year’s old. We bonded together like two sides of one coin. He brings everyday joy and happiness in to my life. And for this i will be eternally thankful to him. Thank you Akiyama for making my life liveable again.

      I have my Akita Inu for 2.5 years and i can tell you it's been amazing. He's a male full white Japanese Akita. My boy and I have a great bond and I love him so much (and i think it's mutual lol). I don't fully agree it's not a dog for first time dogowners. I'm a first time dogowner and we are doing great. However i do think it's important you realise what kind of dog you're bringing home. Educate yourself and then decide if it's the dog for you. Akita's are very stubborn (have a strong will of their own) so if u can't handle that it's not a dog for you. Personally i like that trait. You have to be firm and consistent but also respectfull from day one. I can't express enough how important it is to get a dog from a reputable breeder. Yes you will have to wait on a waiting list and yes the dog will be more expensive but it's all worth it when u know u get a high quality dog. A good breeder will also help you with everything u want and need to know before and after you get your dog.

      My Akita Dexter had 14years, i will remember him forever! Best dog i have ever seen my entire life. Smart, strong, loyal, happy. Dog character, no matter the breed, is always a reflection of his owners love and care, so even if he was proud Akita, he was raised to be playful and very happy dog. He had his rules thoug, never allowed strangers to grab him suddenly, every other animal had to admit his dominance, did not play with ball, and had to have a good reason to do something for people, but he was kind to people he knew. Akita chooses only one human as his master, so my main advice is to train him by fun since earliest days and to have respect for him and train obedience, because he is kind of a wild breed and often do not realise his strenght. Pay attention to ear and eyes health as he can have problems with them, and keep homogenous diet. Dexter ate boiled minced meat(bought at butchery, not from dog food) with rice the whole life, and was overall very healthy till very old age.

They have ran through fire to save my husband's and my life. I now have five puppies sleeping on my bed. They are my best friends. Need I say more.

    Akitas increased in size by adding other breeds, such as the German Shephard, mastiff, and Saint Bernard which added the white, for dog fighting, just as the sumo wrestlers were idolized, by the Yakuza. Japan akitas are built like Mohammad Ali, while the American akitas are built like Sonny Liston which the old style akitas were like.

    Well, me and my family are 2nd time dog owners and decided to get an Akita, the Akita we got listens to us all the time, and he’s so nice, me and my sister take care of him, he’s 2 years old in dog years or around 3-4 months old in human years, and he still bites, but he’s awesome and loving and sweet, he loves playing and he’s learning quickly! He’s an American Akita. These breeds are awesome, loyal, nice, ADORABLE, and do get along with others dogs if introduced to them earlier. Even though we had him for around a month, an he loves everybody, which is kinda weird for an Akita..

    Since I have rescued several out of the shelter system it is very important to do your homework before getting any breed of dog but especially an Akita. I had 3 American Akita's and currently an Akita Inu aka Japanese Akita. These dogs are extremely intelligent. They will study and test you. They are very cute but please do not go up and pet a strange dog especially an Akita. My dog does not tolorate strangers, children or any dogs. When I brought him home from the shelter I took him directly to my Vets office and watched him at a young age test her. By mistake I took him to the groomers and by the time I got home the groomer called me to come get him. I also noticed that he would do a bear stance standing on his hind legs when another dog (s) and person went past. Put it this way he was making himself dominate and his mindset was everything is mine. It has taken me several years to get him to listen to me. I work with him daily. He would never wag his tail now once in a while he will wag his tail. Every dog is different my female Akita was meet and greet she loved to play and I could take her any place. I know nothing about the true DNA on any of my dogs since they are all rescues. I learned for all and all were different. Never hit a dog but you can raise you voice and they will understand what you are trying to convey.

    A Japanese Akita can live up to 30 years! Our friends father’s Akita did. And ours probably will too. Here are the the great secrets;
    1. Love them with great enthusiasm and affection constantly
    2. Don’t leave them alone and sad. Be with them constantly
    3. Bring them with you to work. Ours is the clinic therapy “ executive “
    4. Take them out for long fun walks 3-5 times daily.
    5. NEVER feed them commercial dog food. Cook them fresh healthy food daily. Beware they have many food allergies. If you feed them properly they don’t eat much, and are very polite eaters. Ours eats salmon belly, lamb, pork loin- organic, duck, venison, cod fish, brown rice, sweet potato, baby peas, broccoli and frozen blueberries as treats in the hot months
    6. Don’t treat them as a dog. Treat them as your precious child and never ever be mean or harsh to them and instantly forgive them
    7. Don’t keep them outside and let them sleep with you. There are too many stories in Japan of them saving families’ lives-especially children

    She’s well round and very calm and changed a lot of ppls perception of the Akita being a nasty breed, she’s made many friends human and dogs even 1 cat.
    We wouldn’t change her for the world and are thinking of her being a therapy dog.

      They love kids...very protective of them. Key is like they said expose them to ppl..kids..family socialize them. They r not so happy around same sex dogs so it will help.

    Im collecting a 5 year old female next week frim a husky n akita shelter. I havnt had a dog for many years but love dogs esoecially akitas and have no fear with any dogs and they seem to like me too! . Is it too late to train her cos of her age as I was told she has zero recall?

      Yeah Akita's are very stubborn. Be firm and consistent from day 1. My Akita is very sweet to me and my family but wary to strangers. I recommend to never let an Akita off leash. They are a breed that like to dominate. If they cross paths with another dog that is dominant it can turn ugly. They also have a high prey drive so they can run off chasing a rabbit and he will have no ears for you when he does. Most Akita's are very food motivated. I can make him do everything for a snack. Without snacks he only listens when he wants to. I'm not saying he doesn't listen at all. But there are times he just ignores me lol.

      We got our Japanese Akita as a rescue at 3 years old she is now coming up for 12, initially she was very aggressive due to lack of socialising and being kept outside, it took my partner years of training and dominance to get her to where she is now, loving and obedient with family but still wary with strangers and extremely anxious/aggressive around other dogs.

      it IS a big Shiba ;-), "Shiba Inu" means "little Dog", and Akitas are not little, but their behavior is very much the same. I knew a Shiba and own an Akita.

      . I assume it is because you didn't mention inu. There cool dogs. The best of luck with her. If it is akita inu where did you find her.
      I don't even know where to find the Japanese akita inu. (I have a Shiba Inu.)

    Only disagreement I had with this is the bathing. They are very clean they even self groom we only bath our American Akita 2 or 3 times a year bathing them too much is actually bad for their fur if bathed too much it removes oils that keep their fur healthy

    Help me here! My Japanese Akita is unusually friendly with strangers and wants to play with everyone on a walk. He plays with all other humans in the dog park but ignores me and runs away when I call him! I expected him to be more loyal as a pure Japanese Akita!! How can I stop this behavior?

    • @simonmilicevic6168
      @simonmilicevic6168 3 года назад

      That is normal for an akita because they are a very stubborn breed. You were probably too soft as an owner when your dog was a pup. If you want to have a good behaved akita, you have to find a balance between love and toughness
