It’s so annoying with so many people saying the 2024 retro is better than the OGs when they are actually comparing the 2024 to previous retros and not the actual OGs. 90% of people have not touched an OG let alone worn a pair. So how can one even compare🤷🏿? This is a fair comparison and shows that as great as the 2024 is it is not even close to the OG.
While these are good, the 1999 retro is still the best retro. I would be happy if they could at least get them back to that point. Unfortunately, I don’t think they will.
I could agree with that. I dig the leather though and happy to have a decent pair to rock. Just wish they went full grain without the simulated pebble finish
Yeah I have a deadstock 99 that needs to be restored and they are perfect. I like the reimagined pair too, the best shape Jordan has done since the 99, even though some overlays have shrunken. If only JB would borrow a pair of 99’s to reference the next black cement retro 😢
The shape depends on the factory your pair was made at. Good shape pairs were made in “LN3” and “LN4” factories. Your pair looks to have been made at the “SZ” factory which don’t have as good a shape. Hope this helps explain why your pair looks like that. They still look good regardless.

I understand the differences you are pointing out, but I’m very pleased with the 2024. There will never be an OG perfect retro. I’ve accepted this fact. The mesh alone hasn’t been matched since 89’.
Totally, weird thing is they tried to elevate the shoes height and shrunk the netting. If they just took the time to get an 89 pattern down but they chose not to
The real comparison video. I bought these on release day and love them. The shape is really good. Closest to the OG since 99. And the leather is phenomenal. I prefer it to the nubuck. If the OG was leather like the Black Cement 3, no one would miss a beat.
I really love the leather and like I mentioned inthe video would like to see more playoff colorways return in leather. Hopefully full grain smooth next time but they do look good
Great comparison. They finally rounded the toe out something we haven't seen in years but still lacks the low profile slim cut of the OGs which I'd be surprised if we ever get again. The fatter build is probably from the move away from an athletic sneaker to one that fits a wider range of foot shapes
All the slight differences are very interesting. I remember shoes being well padded back in the day so I was surprised there was less padding than the 24s.
Man if they just got the height right the rest of the shoe looks pretty damn good. I don't mind the longer tongue, I surely hate the padding tho 😂. Another amazing review brother. I wish the Brand would use their social media people and watch this video and actually learn.

Got a few pairs I've worn quite a bit and still super puffy.. just look at the og 1 padding that was later production, it lasts. Height and netting is my biggest improvements I'd like to see at this point and they'll be damn close..

I swear I wrote the comment before the netting talk and your so right they smooshed looking opening for the netting is tiny now an I wonder if they removed the ankle padding closer to the OG if that would make some of the esthetics look a bit better? My one and only Christmas gift in 1989 was a pair of black/cement Nike Air Jordan 4's...and I was stoked! The tabs on the back of mine were made of leather and the "Nike Air" was embossed into it because it was a youth size. The herringbone pattern was so soft and grippy and it would be filled with small pebbles from ripping around on the playground haha!
Haha that's cool man! IF my folks did get me a pair in '89 I'm pretty sure I'd have the same. Not till Christmas 91 they finally gave in with black infrared 6 for Christmas. I had to shed tears to make it happen.
Excellent comparison. Wonder why suede cut, or in this retro, leather cut grey lines are not incorporated. That gives us an OG feel. Og’s are so amazing! 🫡
Outside of the damaged mid and bottom soles and the wing, those OG 89s are in really good condition. Another thing, Nike has done an exceptional job of reproducing Jordans which is why they've increased in resale value over the years.
My pair had a nice slope on the toe box just like the OG. I think your pair just got a bad one. This new 2024 shape is amazing imo. I love the sleek toe box shape where it’s not so “boxy”
I noticed the other shoe does lay slightly flatter, an issue we've seen with other retros lately where one is curdled more than the other. It's not that drastic here though as some others like Chicago 2022 banana
The toe box is definitely improved. My two biggest issues would be collar height to line up with the heel tab and the size of the side panel netting is much smaller than OG

Why can’t Nike or JB do what Virgil (R.I.P) did for the off white 2 lows? They did a 3d scan of the OG shoe to get an exact replica and specs and shape and cut etc etc . We have all the technology in the world but JB or Nike just aren’t utilizing any of it. There’s no need to re-tool, or adjust the shape or “trying” to get the OG toe box shapes right. Virgil did it right for the OFF WHITE 2 lows. Exact same shape, toe box etc as the OG’s they took a 3D scan from. JB, you have access to any OG jordan from either an archive or ANY real OG collector who have DS OG’s! Come on JB, you have the means to make our retro’s as close to the originals as possible. But for some reason don’t. That’s my peace lol
There is absolutely ZERO reason they can't replicate the original shape. Comes down to wanting to put the effort forward and spend money on molding, research etc to get it right instead of cranking out more pairs that won't come close..

We need a good AJ4 white cement. I gave my pair away to the local homeless Federation. The shape and cut was atrocious . Quality on my pair was embarrassing. Made me stop buying 4s till the 2019 BC (which are also blah)
Great review! After getting past the excitement of the release, next comes the details. You've covered all the subtleties that makes a fan go "these are nice! but it's not the same" which they are not. They can be precise about it. First thing I noticed unboxing them was that tongue height, man! Notice how the heel tab and ankle support on the OG line up to make a seamless curved line but the retro doesn't? Looks like the tab was cut a slight bit higher on the retro while the ankle support was slightly lower making that big difference. The details always matter, all the stuff mentioned matters for sure.
Thanks man, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The tabs are pretty much equal sized.. heel shape molding is just so different from slant to rounded shape as I showed in the video. Collar is taller too at tab making the OG look so much better overall. Lots of little details make a HUGE difference

I recently found your channel and made me really want to get back into buying jays that are actually worth the bread at least anything from 2004 and before that would you say OGs run true to size or big? I wear an 11 in current time retros except 4s they hurt my feet those I wear 11.5
I have worn my neutral Grey low 85's enough now to brake in the toe box and it looks like your pairs from 1985 😮 I think the 85 low on the neutral Grey color is an amazing shoe and would love to get your opinion because you would know. Great video. I love the 2019 black cement because the BC 4 was the first nubuck or durabuck jordan so I will always prefer it in the true form it's just to iconic.

Jordan 4 black cements are my number 1 of all time. I think they did an excellent job with the 2024 reimagined. Im never getting rid of my pair. Strangely though, i couldn't stand my 2019 pair. I got rid of them. They felt so cheap and the shape was horrible. Pinky toe killers. Unlike the 89s, 99s and 24s.Just my opinion.

Question for you that not many people seem to be able to answer. Out of all of the original 89 pairs, which ones had durabuck and which ones had leather?
What must we do to get them to get them as close as to the OG as possible. In this day and age, we have to have the technology to better replicate an original shoe to be as close as possible when recreated.
They would have to go the route that Nike did with the Air Max 90/III recrafts a few years ago. Completely recraft the shoe while using the originals for reference. While they weren’t spot on, the attention to detail was impressive and showed me that a close to accurate retro is possible.
I have the 2019 bred 4s and tbh I find them more comfortable than the 2024 reimagined 4s, they feel lighter on foot and the padding behind the tongue and and collar is good, the 2024 is a bit too much, it almost feels winterized no cap lol the only thing that sold me on 2024 is the leather but that's about it.
Nike is ripping everybody off with all Jordan retros. They charge us way more yet give us a severely inferior shoe. For some unknown reason they can never get the toe box correct. They can never get the all around shape correct and they use cheaper materials compared the originals. Ill be glad when Nike tanks and all of us customers can sit back and say "We told ya so"

The reimagined has to do with the materials.. not the shape. Materials most obvious of course, I mostly highlight how different the shape and cuts are from the original
15:25 I honestly this reason alone is what keep you older heads from enjoying what we have now. Since 2000 besides the Black Metallic 5s and Fire Red 5s, when has it ever been a perfect retro to the OGs. After 20 years of retroing they’ve continuously showed that they’re not going back 100% true to the OG. Hell they advertised the 2020 Fire Red 4s as TRUE TO OG FORM and that was a lie. As we continue we want these sneakers back but buy them knowing we aren’t gonna be happy and satisfied. So why put yourself under the stress of disappointment 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
I'm not stressed about them coming back properly but like I mentioned in the video they CAN do it, no reason why they can't with today's technology. 2s are now spot on most recent retros with the OG. 3s getting close too, justification needs to happen for price increases etc. Overall I have cut back heavily on retro Jordan purchases. Remastered program was supposed to be "og spec " more lies to charge more $$$

Did the ‘89s have the pinky toe issue that every 4 since has had ? It seems like the original cut might not have had that issue due to that very different sloped shape. Just curious
I've never worn the og unfortunately, only knockoffs back in '89 lol.. with the durabuck though I'm guessing less rubbing lighter and at heel wider shoe and toe space might reflect that as well. Definitely more sloped toe, just perfection

Where did the leather 6’s come from? Did the grade school pairs come in leather back then or was the durabuck purposely turned into leather.. one more theory. Did the durabuck turn into leather over time? Please don’t leave me hanging man, I have to know
GS were made from leather, not durabuck. Maybe nike felt kids were rougher on shoes so went with leather, more durable than durabuck. Durabuck more flexible though for performance
I don't think the 2019 pair was as horrible as said in this video I prefer the Durabuck more than this leather but I prefer the shape on reimagined, they gonna hold up better too
My biggest gripes were the toe box and off centered nike branding at heel. After a wear wears they just annoyed me more and more. If you don't like a shoe, sell it lol but yes, 2024 a step in right direction

The shape depends on the factory your pair was made at. Good shape pairs were made in “LN3” and “LN4” factories. Your pair looks to have been made at the “SZ” factory which don’t have as good a shape. Hope this helps explain why your pair looks like that. They still look good regardless.

I had the 2019 retro, they were awful, sold them after 3 to 4 years. These seem so much better than those at least yet very distant from the og
I just love the fact that your og 4s doesn’t yellow on the grey part of the midsole. Jordan brand needs to bring that back already

The newer retros nike/Jordan and even basketball to running is so variable. Best bet is to try on what pairs your aiming for.

What must we do to get them to get them as close as to the OG as possible. In this day and age, we have to have the technology to better replicate an original shoe to be as close as possible when recreated.
Absolutely, preach to the choir.. lol many customizers too for example with the AJ 1 are doing better than the brand, crazy
They would have to go the route that Nike did with the Air Max 90/III recrafts a few years ago. Completely recraft the shoe while using the originals for reference. While they weren’t spot on, the attention to detail was impressive and showed me that a close to accurate retro is possible.

I have the 2019 bred 4s and tbh I find them more comfortable than the 2024 reimagined 4s, they feel lighter on foot and the padding behind the tongue and and collar is good, the 2024 is a bit too much, it almost feels winterized no cap lol the only thing that sold me on 2024 is the leather but that's about it.

Nike is ripping everybody off with all Jordan retros. They charge us way more yet give us a severely inferior shoe. For some unknown reason they can never get the toe box correct. They can never get the all around shape correct and they use cheaper materials compared the originals. Ill be glad when Nike tanks and all of us customers can sit back and say "We told ya so"
Reimagined 4s don't have the SB retooling, they entered production before the SBs and it shows
Haven't had them in hand but friends who have both say they are pretty close. I'm sure there is some differences

The reimagined has to do with the materials.. not the shape. Materials most obvious of course, I mostly highlight how different the shape and cuts are from the original
15:25 I honestly this reason alone is what keep you older heads from enjoying what we have now. Since 2000 besides the Black Metallic 5s and Fire Red 5s, when has it ever been a perfect retro to the OGs. After 20 years of retroing they’ve continuously showed that they’re not going back 100% true to the OG. Hell they advertised the 2020 Fire Red 4s as TRUE TO OG FORM and that was a lie. As we continue we want these sneakers back but buy them knowing we aren’t gonna be happy and satisfied. So why put yourself under the stress of disappointment 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
I'm not stressed about them coming back properly but like I mentioned in the video they CAN do it, no reason why they can't with today's technology. 2s are now spot on most recent retros with the OG. 3s getting close too, justification needs to happen for price increases etc. Overall I have cut back heavily on retro Jordan purchases. Remastered program was supposed to be "og spec " more lies to charge more $$$
@@ogorbust1697 the thing I don’t understand how Jordan Brand get away with “false advertising” in a way. Wasn’t the Fire Red 4s the Jordan 4 that was supposed start the era for having the 1989 shape. But now 4 years later the SB 4s are the ones that supposedly have the true 89 shape. So which one is it lol

I hear many people say Jordan Brand doesn’t use the durabuck that was used on the 1989 pair because the company that made it ran out of business. So it leaves confusion to how is things supposed to be exactly how they were if factories then doesn’t exist anymore. Hope you see what I’m trying to paint here

I've never worn the og unfortunately, only knockoffs back in '89 lol.. with the durabuck though I'm guessing less rubbing lighter and at heel wider shoe and toe space might reflect that as well. Definitely more sloped toe, just perfection

GS were made from leather, not durabuck. Maybe nike felt kids were rougher on shoes so went with leather, more durable than durabuck. Durabuck more flexible though for performance

I don't think the 2019 pair was as horrible as said in this video I prefer the Durabuck more than this leather but I prefer the shape on reimagined, they gonna hold up better too
My biggest gripes were the toe box and off centered nike branding at heel. After a wear wears they just annoyed me more and more. If you don't like a shoe, sell it lol but yes, 2024 a step in right direction
