Afraid To Read- Dawud Wharnsby (Lyrics)

- One of my favourite nasheeds by Dawud Wharnsby.
How many words she's read before, she's consumed two thousand books or more.
Musty pulp and glue soundproof her tiny room.
She cannot understand why this book in her hand
Fascinates her now so much that she's almost shy to touch.
Don't think about the words its just a book - paper and ink
She reaffirms, reminds herself, a book cant dictate what to think.
It invites, intrigues her more than others on her shelf
Is it just another book? - She sits questioning herself.
Oh Allah, she's so afraid to read,
The wisdom that's revealed may burrow in her mind
She'll be obliged to admit,
She'll be obliged to submit
But will she be strong enough to live the truth she finds?
Oh Allah, she's so afraid to read.
The hall light is always on every night that he is gone.
He hears his mother toss in bed when he slips in at dawn.
In the book case by the stair, he can see it sitting there
Like a waiting watchful wise-man scolding him with care.
In the morning will they fight about him being out all night?
Will he resent their gift of love and not admit that they are right?
All he wants is to fit in some place, but must he compromise his faith?
He cant look himself or his parents in the face.
He takes the book upstairs unread and sets it closed next to his head
Then counts the prayers he's missed and lays so hopelessly in bed.
Oh Allah, he's so afraid to read,
The wisdom that's revealed may burrow in his mind
He'll be obliged to admit,
He'll be obliged to submit
But will he be strong enough to live the truth he finds?
Oh Allah, he's so afraid to read.
I sent an email to my loved one, just the other day
It's sad communication has evolved this way.
We use so many words but have so little to relay
As angels scribble down every letter that we say.
All the viral attachments sent and passionate insults we vent
Its easy to be arrogant behind user passwords we invent.
But on the day the scrolls are laid, with every word and deed displayed,
When we read our accounts, I know, for one, Ill be afraid.
That day I'll be so afraid to read,
Every harsh word that I've spoken - and every time I have lied.
I'll be obliged to admit,
I'll be obliged to submit
Will I have strength owning up to each deed Ive tried to hide?
Oh Allah, I'm so afraid to read.
I would be afraid to read Hadith on hijab n parda coz I was not courageous enough.
This nasheed is about me.
Alhamdulilah Allah gave me the strength
When i was 16, this song actually kinda inspired me to wear the hijab. im 23 nw,lol..it was the hardest thing i ever had to,(but the most liberating) i knew it was something i had to do, but hearing this nasheed gave me that extra push and taught me not be afraid of the truth...so dawud i love u for the sake of allah.
Subhanallah
One of my favourite nasheeds from my favourite artist. Every thing I listen to by Brother Dawud is beautiful and amazing. He is true and talented and truthful.
I heard this song when I was like 10 and although it didn’t mean much, I had the whole thing memorized.. 15 years later its gives me goosebumps knowing I turned into the guy in the second verse. Dawud Warnsby thanks for that enormous reality check. I’m gonna time travel back to how I was when I was 10. InshAllah Aameen
it's literally beautiful how he doesn't need any music to sound so amazing
this is what you call true talent no synthesised music just simple drums and his voice
👌
Do you have a child

As - Salaam Alikum.. its a beautiful song it really made me think
still loved
Subhan Allah this made me cry 😢
In general I don't endorse listening to nasheed that much for adults- I prefer and endorse listening to the Qur'an more.
However, this is one of the few nasheed that is not only really beautiful, but is also amazingly heart warming.
It's when they add musical instruments or try to copy modern entertainment that there's a problem.
This is beautiful...It sounds so good. It's just amazing and the message in it is really inspiring.
brings bak so many memories

@Thesooperdooperme haha well thank you, I shall change that now :p wa iyyakum
its okay ..its just the drum and the voice ..
Salaam. I have asperger's syndrome and find interpreting songs/poems difficult. Would somebody please explain the meaning of this song to me? Jazakallah khair
en n, the first story is about a well-read girl (presumably non-Muslim) who comes across the Qur'an. She's fascinated by the contents the Qur'an, but is scared to read it because it's sway will lead her towards Islam but she isn't sure if she has the strength to become a Muslim.
The second is a story of a Muslim boy who is leading a dual life, doing things that he knows he shouldn't be doing and that his parents will disapprove of. He does these things in order to fit in. He's afraid to read the Qur'an because he knows it'll force him to face his sins.
The last is a person who is reflecting on the fact that emails store every word that you say, the same way angels are keeping track of every single deed we do and every word that we say. He knows that he will be afraid to read his record on the day of judgement because every sin will be written in it and he'll have to face them.
I hope that helps! :) Lemme know if you need any further clarifications.
Me too
I donno hw to read AlQuran.. Wher AlQuran
hmm how do u know his song.. :P
its not a song
Ramdhan Mubarak 9th day
ramadan mubarak from 2023 :)
My dad does not let me listen to your nasheeds because they have music in it so can you not have music in your nasheeds
its just his voice and a duff which is allowed
Man
Yalanchi, May you find the truth because the truth is Islam..
I'm scared to read creepy books
"It's sad communication has evolved this way." Umm... No it's not. It's probably a good thing actually.
The sad part isn't the fact that we now send emails but the ease of which those emails have been sent and the distance it puts between ourselves and what we do psychologically than if it were to be face to face, thus making it easy for us to do negative things that we otherwise wouldn't have done.
You must be pretty young because communication has become so down graded that people don't even spell out full words anymore, it's become the way to communicate online. You couldn't get away with that back in the days.
I disagree. It's better to talk face to face.
I read it, all I thought was "wow this is the book that would be born if the bible, and mein Kampf had sex." Poorly wriiten as well
