    Buddy weighed a whopping 130 pounds! When he arrived at the vet clinic, his owners didn't see anything wrong or notice his paw was broken. Luckily, a lovely woman named Jalessa wasn't afraid of helping Buddy. He went on a diet and worked very hard towards his dream - walking again.

      The only way I can empathize with the former owners is if they were elderly. I heard of a case where the owner was elderly and suffering dementia. They didn't remember feeding the dogs so it resulted in overfeeding. I think any elderly person with pet should have a family checking on both the person AND the pet. Important detail, 'smiling' is just the way that some dogs have their jaw positioned.
      He has dark lines around his mouth, so a permanent smile is easily made when opening the mouth.
      Other dogs have a low-hanging-cheek and get a permanent disappointed look.
      Our dog seems to 'smile' when she hears fireworks, but it's a stress-response, she opens her mouth but is not excited at all.

    I adopted an overweight senior dog whose previous human had died. He’s been dumped in a shelter, but fortunately for him a senior rescue pulled him. The vet thinks he may have cushings disease which caused his weight gain and diabetes. We worked hard to get his weight down but then he lost to much weight bc he’d developed diabetes. But once we put him on a special diet & 2X a day insulin he not only achieved a healthy weight, but you can tell he feels better. Bc of his diabetes I have to be really careful about food, no spoons of peanut butter or doggy ice cream, but fortunately for me and him he loves vegetables. I still have to be careful about giving him anything outside of his two meals but I also belive in quality of life. My boys fav thing is eating. Also when we groom him or bathe him, things he hates, he’ll get tiny amounts of high value treats. Getting an animals weight under control is hard bc they don’t know why you’re not giving them treats or more food, but you figure it out. Now days he sees a bit of broccoli as a treat.

      People in need are much more complicated

    • @batacumba
      @batacumba Год назад +3

      @@papa_pt you’re very right about that. I used to think that liking animals was a decent barometer for telling whether someone was decent or not. But after encountering so many nasty, hateful and vitriolic ‘pet people’ I’ve revised that philosophy. Now I would say this, if you *don’t* like animals it’s safe to say you’re probably not a great person but liking animals is definitely not an indicator you’re a nice person. Liking animals could mean you have gentle or altruistic tendencies. But it could also mean that perhaps your personality is so difficult and abrasive that you find the uncomplaining and nonjudgmental nature of animals preferable. Much easier to get along with a creature than can’t talk back or argue and is completely reliant on you for all its needs and has limited recourse to deal with things like abuse or mistreatment compared to a human.

    Poor pupper. I'm constantly on my husband about him providing extra snacks to our Molly. A couple of pounds on a little dog is really bad.
    He looked miserable at 130lbs. He looks great and you can tell he feels better. Good Luck!
