@Punchtale Real fans would buy a DM album if it was just 90 minutes of Mediterranean fart noises. There’s hardly another band on the planet from that era that could still do a full run of stadiums 40 years into their career. So respect the boys or shutdafucup 👋🏽😑

A high school colleague got a few of us tickets to see them perform live during the Violator tour. I’m not a DM fan, but I have that album because it’s profoundly good.
They look like children here, and they sound bad technically, but I can see that the elements are there - especially the courage and attitude, and the smarts to use sequencers to at least look like they can play cohesively. David’s voice is good. The other guys not so much but they’re enjoying themselves. That confidence took them a long way. 👍🏻

Not only true live, but also no added effects like reverb etc. And that is pretty rare. (ok, maybe not for an early 80's performance in a small club back then, the PA would've been pretty simple back then, although simple spring reverb units are very old and back then also nothing new)

Random dudes doing little ditties in a small club will later become the most influential electronic band in music history. What a perfect footage of the early days of Depeche Mode.
And by the way, you see that "Fletch" does not only bum around like he always used to say. This is a great video. Thank you very, very much for uploading this.
Back in the days of this gig, you could not imagine that only a few years later these guys would drop "Black Celebration", "Music For The Masses", and "Violator". This was fun watching this.

Q: Is Fletch´ skeyboard ever plugged in?
A: Yes, it´s plugged in, but I couldn´t honestly say what you get from it. He performs with us live but he seems to spend more time out in front, waving his arms in the air than playing the keyboards. All I Know is that when he goes back to his kit, I look round and I know there ain´t anything happening there.

Thank you thank you to whoever posted this footage. It's rare you get to see a band and it's infancy and see this is so strange seeing how I just saw their show from a few weeks ago in 2023 and see those young men standing there having no idea that they would sell an excess of 150 million albums Being inducted into the rock 'n' roll Hall of Fame and inspire a whole generation of musicians to think outside the box. Whatever they did to upgrade that footage it definitely has been touched up because video did not look that good in 1982 lol. I think I've already watched it about 10 times.

This is the Depeche Mode I fell in love with. Of course, I was at the “impressionable age” of “Little 15”. As a synth player and keyboard teacher today, this music, along with so many others stirred my imagination, filled my little music heart with so much wonder- took me on a lifelong journey for sure.
I am still hypnotized by the fact the keyboards were played live over a drum track on reels. Brilliant!

well their latest records do not reflect their original style in any way anymore. you could say that they evolved musically but i for one don't like their later records starting with playing the angel. so i am not looking forward to a new release unless it would be a old unreleased mastertape find or something similar. bygone were the good times of dm (musically) - at least to my very personal taste and believe me - i gave them a good and thorough listening. and the void that fletch leaves will neither improve that matter. dm forever.
