    I’m a mechanic and I love Subaru’s. Japanese cars in the 90’s is the equivalent of the 60’s and 70’s American muscle. Really good automotive engineers building and designing amazing cars. The celebrity status of automotive engineers it’s a thing of the past. I feel almost all car companies have gone downhill over the past 10 years. Just poor engineering, cheap materials and dealer only services. But maybe I’m just old a jaded.

    • @focus3303
      @focus3303 6 лет назад +20

      I owned it for 5yrs.
      At the time I owned it I was living in Ibiza, so I had to change the number plate to Spanish which was a challenge.
      A collector from Vigo bought it from me as I moved back to the UK.
      It's 279/400.
      It was on Jeremy Clarkson head to head video and the reason he test drove it was because it was one of the first imported into the UK at that time.

    Love the 22B, always wanted one, but the price for one now is crazy, so for the time being will stick with my Impreza RB5. It's amazing how many people you talk to who used to own an Impreza, they all say the same thing, they regret selling it, best car they owned, drive one, there addictive, especially the classic shape. Fun on wheels and now a modern classic.

    This car was on display in the showroom at Suttons Subaru in Rosebery Sydney in January 2018.
    It had one of those spec sheets next to the car which detailed all its goodies
    If I remember correctly, it also showed its 1999 RRP of around $120k.
    Unfortunately it was so tightly packed in with a bunch of other cars it was almost impossible to get good photos of the car.
    There was also a mint condition Brumby in red behind the 22b
    Thanks for the video. The best Aussie 22b video I have seen.

    Little storage compartment @8:05 are common In Imprezas which I used for loose change. But why say fuse? The fuse board is located behind it, and by pinching the sides of the open compartment will release and drop out, so basically it’s a fuse box cover.

      Hey zippy0099, so the 22B name comes from the engine's larger capacity - 2.2 litres up from 2.0.
      According to the interwebs, the 22B used an 'EJ22G' engine based on a closed-deck version III EJ20G block, with displacement was increased from 1994cc to 2212cc. Hope that helps and I hope you liked the video :D

      I hear ya danial wrc, and I'm a big FD3S fan. But my point with the 22B was this was beyond a normal step up or tricked-up production car. 2. The exhaust tip also was standard on Stis and Type Rs
    3. Center Diff is called DCCD not VTD

    • @DaveZalstein
      @DaveZalstein  5 лет назад +1

      Hey Schorschix,
      So,
      1. As far as I know, the 1998 Type RAs came standard from the factory with plain black items. Type Rs may have used body-coloured items, so apologies if I misled you there.
      2. I didn't say the STI tip was exclusive to the 22B, just that standard WRXs of the time came standard with twin-tip systems, which they did.
      3. To the best of my knowledge, VTD (Variable Torque Distribution) was the system that effectively preceded DCCD (Driver Controlled Center Differential or Driver's Control Center Differential). The name DCCD came later and was used in proceeding models.
      Glad you liked the video overall though, and cheers for the questions.

      A 22B is totally cooler than an NSX, no contest! But again, I think people are missing the point of what I mean by 'Japan's F40'.
      The F40 was a moment-in-time car. It was produced one time, with one goal - to be the best the brand could do, no exceptions.
      The NSX simply wasn't a one-off, there were loads of on-going versions and special editions and even a second-generation car. Totally different to the story of the 22B.
