For me it was a little later, mid 80s through to very early 90s and so was Bembom brothers for me right up until the change again much later on. But as Bembom brothers it was still an amazing place, great people, familys from London and all over. I lived in Broadstairs my entire life, it is funny how you said you and your cousins had some great times as those are my fondest memories, me and my cousins, back when family visited and meant something. Is it me, or was everything just so much better back then

As a young boy in the 70s my mum and dad would take us on holiday to a caravan park in Beltinge, just down the coast from Margate. We didn't have a car in those days so we relied on good old Greenline coaches to get us there and a day trip to Margate from the caravan park meant jumping on a bus. I used to love Dreamland as a kid, just found the whole place exciting. I went a few times as a teenager with mates in the late 80s and enjoyed the theme park then as well. I took my own family on a caravan holiday to Reculver in 2011, I suppose for more of a trip down memory lane for me. We had a day out in Margate and it was quite a sad experience, it was rundown and felt like it had lost its soul almost. This video though has brought back happy memories of a much simpler time, thank you.

Everything changed when my nan and grandad died within a week of each other in 74. I felt my life had ended with their deaths. I stopped going after that. My mum and dad still went, to see her brother but I just didn't want to go anymore. Never been back since. I would like to see it one last time though..

Great footage. We used to live in Arlington House nearby and visit Dreamland regularly. From our flat on the 12th floor we could hear the Tiger roar in the mornings, as they also had a small zoo. Pleased to say we had a lovely weekend here only last week. Went on some great rides in Dreamland Which the kids loved, like the ghost train and scenic railway, and a lovely lunch sitting outside in the old town. The beach was packed with people enjoying themselves just like they did in the 1970s. It’s not all negative folks, there’s still life there! Margate did go through a decline for sure, but it’s on the up. Go and support it, especially Dreamland which will be a housing estate in 10 years if you don’t!

I remember Dreamland. I also remember when it changed its name to Ben Bon Brothers. I also remmebr the terrible accident that happend there when one of the rides failed causing a couple of fatalities. I also remember Margate when all the B&Bs were full of holiday makers. These days Margates B&Bs are all but let out to illegal migrants and it has not been the same since. No longer do the English go for holiday here in the numbers they used to back in the 70s and 80s. Whether Dreamland alone will be able to bring back the glory days of when Margate had a name for Kent seaside fun only time will tell....but I doubt it. Margate has now been lost to a multicultural nightmare and at the same time has lost its once chramrful Great british spirit.
