I think I completely misunderstood the message that Crass were trying to put across , all those years ago. Rather than trying to live a pacifistic, non-conformist, anarcho-political lifestyle, I actually ended up trying to market a brand of aftershave, called 'Heinrik', aimed specifically at German mini-cab drivers.
Nice one!......there was more to "Punk" than the music and wearing an A sign on your T shirt- It was about challenging and changing society- something I still do all the time.
@andeeezz Not every crass fan had the luxury of even being born in '82. If this is the closest we can get, then so be it. I saw Steve play at this gig and at the close of The Last Supper tour. I'm sure we'd all love to have seen Crass back, but this was still fantastic
Hey less of the how I "handled" middle age, I'm only just approaching it lmao! I ignore music totally and only listen to blank cassettes dressed in a butchers apron and a fez. Now THAT'S punk!
No worries, my point was that he died about 17 years after the Clash split, but always said the Clash would not reform. I was well into Crass back in the day they swore never to "sell out" like the Clash, and that they would never re-form.
Saw them a few times, the zig zag squat and the bingo hall on holloway road. Not sure what they are doing playing places like that and making a come back? It waters down what it was about the 1st time around IMO.
I saw crass at first in 1984 live in front of 500.000 miners. I didn't understand why they could make a comeback? They're one of the important punkbands ever. They impressed my life, my acting. But everybody which give enough have at the end nothing. They built up Rough Trade, they spent more than 12.000.000 records worldwide, they were insperation for jobbing, musicians, they make compilations etc. So in this way they would make some money for their pension? Would the critics payed for them?
"These are good memories brought back to life" This isn't how I remember it, the Zig Zag squat was a fair size but it wasn't like this ;-) Turn the sound down and watch the clips, the slick lighting the posing to the audience etc. Defo not how I remember or want to remember it.
@eikonenoki Crass didn't sell out. Steve is the one using Crass material to please the punk youth of today. Seems very contradicting no doubt. Most of the vocals were done by steve but I believe it was words of Penny and Eve that made Crass. We shouldn't let Steve and what ever his motives may be get in the way of the true message: there is no authority but yourself. Lets continue to push for real freedom and liberty despite the actions of one man.
just cuz he did 1 show when hes old and shit he probly needed the money im sry we dont live in fairytale land and money is the way shit works..what was that lyric again? "This structures stretches, it'll bend but not break,"
@DFA1972 Just because I believe people should have authority over their own life doesn't mean I'm not aloud to state my opinion on an individuals actions. Crass questioned the motives of many as well if you remember their songs. He has every right to make money off his music but that doesn't mean we all have to like it. I'm not policing anything, I'm not at all forcing myself on this man I'm simply stating an opinion.
They owe me a living as my grandfather and father and me paid 100s of thousands into the tax system in our working lifes ..also they fought and served for this country in the wars so give me a Fucking job now, or... benifits i i call them insurance give them to me now . Its my inheritance not benifits ffs.
I just seems wrong and to really have lost it's voice and urgency. I can't blame them for wanting to make a little cash but at the same time it feels like the glamour of the stage and lights really kill it. maybe I and a little confused
If you watch the Penny Rimbaud interviews on youtube, you'll see that he was pretty upset that Steve was doing it. I can see why, but maybe Steve did it because he knew it would never happen otherwise. Pleasing fans is important. It is a tad lame, and the guy JUMPING with his guitar is suuuper out of place. Still, he's a pioneer, and he's allowed to do a show in my book. Crass forever.
whell if youo look at the place there playing and what they got then they must be doing pretty whell cuz every band ive seen who "needs the money" dosent put on a show like that
na dude the boom of mainstream/pop-punk(aka mtv punk) was in the 90s now hardcore is somewhat comeing back...sortof but the bad religon era is comeing back
yeah i dont know why this happened. see now if the money from these concerts went to some sort of charity then i think thats fine but to play crass songs with no other members of crass for self gratitude seems too distant from the original crass ideals
thats $21.92 or something in american dollers, thats a shit load for a shirt dude, exspcily comeing from steave ignorant from CRASS, back in the day theyd never sell there shirts for 21 bucks probly more like $5.
Hmmm.......let's see....the people behind Crass (and all that was created during those early years) were and still are very inspirational, motivational and essential. They weren't, aren't "rock stars" or "punk stars". They were "vehicles" for creativity and social commentary. I just hope that they are making money to live and not profit. There's just too little integrity these days. It would be much more essential if he was touring with new, current and equally powerful material.
I wasn't aiming any of that at you personally, just a generalisation. No offence meant Squire, we'll just have to agree to disagree about live punk "events". Peace!
I saw Crass play twice in the '80's and they were excellent, this is pretty fucking poor by any standards. Just seems to go against everything Crass ever stood for.
i stayed up on cocaine and mdma for the whole weekend. and im 42 !!! i was ill til,the fucking wednesday though. good on the nite but he shouldve chose a band that didnt jump around like wankers.
this isnt the original crass .... just a few of them.... some original members didnt want to do it. .. like penny rimbaud..... nice to hear the songs again though...crass were the real anarcho punks of the day... the pistols may have started the ball rolling... but crass were the real deal.. .
o h it's pretty cool to read your comments I'm 30 and in m,y place at the time was a bit hard to get access to this sorta bands, ... but nowadays I feel pretty identified with it thus having listened to punk rock for about 15 years now, and YES I think I on't own the right to critizise anyone but myself. They do what they do having their very own background, how could I ay they are shite when I come from a very different one? By the way I started being a vegetarian years before being a punk.
Hey, it's all TOO fuckin' easy to call-out the 'Hypocrite' Card when someone is putting a message out there. The age of the message is irrelevant but the relevancy of the content to Now certainly isn't (unravel that one!). And this message (in general) has NOT expired one bit. I wouldn't care if they made millions, gawd knows they deserve it than celeb fodder or banker rapists any day. Love to all Independent Spirits. The world's a joke, so don't forget to laugh now and then. :-)
the clash didnt have to reform, they were wealthy. strummer died with millions in the bank. he also wasnt above half filling his mescaleros sets with clash songs.
You lose your whole argument straight away, everyone gets older, why should we have to conform, it's easy for you to say this now but in 10 years time you'll think differently, trust me.
To correct this reply, The Casualties DO NOT live in squats, 3 of the 4 members work legit jobs and pay rent in their NY / NJ Apartments so get your facts straight before you post utter nonsense like this.
this isnt the original crass .... just a few of them.... some original members didnt want to do it. .. like penny rimbaud..... nice to hear the songs again though...crass were the real anarcho punks of the day... the pistols may have started the ball rolling... but crass were the real deal..
They think they don't owe us shit.

laughing at this shit 13 years later 😂
simply awesome
Nice one!......there was more to "Punk" than the music and wearing an A sign on your T shirt- It was about challenging and changing society- something I still do all the time.

A "professional" crew filmed the event= expect a dvd sometime what will the pay no more than be this time round I wonder?
FANTASTIC QUALITY!! What a night that was (:
Hey less of the how I "handled" middle age, I'm only just approaching it lmao! I ignore music totally and only listen to blank cassettes dressed in a butchers apron and a fez. Now THAT'S punk!
Best political band ever
No worries, my point was that he died about 17 years after the Clash split, but always said the Clash would not reform.
I was well into Crass back in the day they swore never to "sell out" like the Clash, and that they would never re-form.
I was there, and I was sick all over the floor - and I was straight too! I must be a lightweight Lol!!
Saw them a few times, the zig zag squat and the bingo hall on holloway road. Not sure what they are doing playing places like that and making a come back? It waters down what it was about the 1st time around IMO.
i thought they wehere against the big stage with the flashy lights?
That's exactly what 80% of that crowd did when they got home, and you know it ;)
i heard that Steve Ignorant is like a mobster now.
the guys from The Scarred told me that when they played their UK tour they met him
Bob Butler played in Schwartzeneggar with Steve, and is left-handed.
I saw crass at first in 1984 live in front of 500.000 miners. I didn't understand why they could make a comeback? They're one of the important punkbands ever. They impressed my life, my acting. Even Steve has bills to pay people!
@spacefreak48 ....Bollocks ... i was there to and the image has as much relevance back in the 80's as i does today !!!!!
At least he still does what he loves
So what is your solution? we all age gracefully?
Buy slippers, put our feet up and watch Newsnight?
good song regardless if there sellouts or not
was there on the saturday night and it was great
"These are good memories brought back to life" This isn't how I remember it, the Zig Zag squat was a fair size but it wasn't like this ;-)
Turn the sound down and watch the clips, the slick lighting the posing to the audience etc. Defo not how I remember or want to remember it.
Fucking hell, I wish I could have been there... I bet there were so many people from all over the place! Sick.
I fucking love that these guys still took to the stage after all those years. They are real!
It was only Steve from Crass in this line up cashing in Punk is Dead & he's doing it again in 2020.
Awesome!
@eikonenoki Crass didn't sell out. Steve is the one using Crass material to please the punk youth of today. Seems very contradicting no doubt. I regret watching it. Crass as rock nostalgia? A travesty.
lol, well it would be easy for me to say I was part of the 20% crowd but what I really want to know is how you handled middle age!!
I'm pretty sure they don't owe us a living.
Everyone becomes a tribute band in the end................
They look like fucking Right Said Fred.
+ElectricLabel As long as they don't sound like RSF we are fine ;)
death or glory
just cuz he did 1 show when hes old and shit he probly needed the money im sry we dont live in fairytale land and money is the way shit works..what was that lyric again? "This structures stretches, it'll bend but not break,"
and crass didnt even do it penny didnt even let him use any of the songs he wrote
Do Crass owe an apology over their reaction to Conway Hall -of course they fucking (still) do
The Clash never reformed......
oh yeah i no but theyre just kind of in the mainstreem thanks to hottopic and what not.
Do they owe us a living?
Actually, no. They don't and they never did. You owe yourself a living, only.
They definitely owe us a living - "they" being the bourgeoisie that have us under their boot under the capitalist system.
Wow, they still haven't given up on anarchy.
@DFA1972 Just because I believe people should have authority over their own life doesn't mean I'm not aloud to state my opinion on an individuals actions. i no its not crass, but just because this is a vid of steve dosent mean we cant talk about crass
Year Steve Killed Everything Crass originally stood for & He's doing it again in 2020 Punk is Dead
They owe me a living as my grandfather and father and me paid 100s of thousands into the tax system in our working lifes ..also they fought and served for this country in the wars so give me a Fucking job now, or... benifits i i call them insurance give them to me now . @JANER64 REALLY?!?!?!?
October 2007.
@JoeStunner to Steve ppearing on Emmerdale...oh yes!
I just seems wrong and to really have lost it's voice and urgency. I can't blame them for wanting to make a little cash but at the same time it feels like the glamour of the stage and lights really kill it. maybe I and a little confused
@savagepink I agree, I have vids of the Dublin leg of the tour up as well, better quality too.
OF COURSE THEY FUCKING DO!
of course they do
Y? did he do this
it aint steve playing with conflict.
its steve playing with a decent band who acted like rock stars.
"Business" version of the song rocks bit cooler...
@george1punk2
Really?
Give us clip of him in Emmerdale .I don't believe you.
There is no underground in punk anymore...
even crust is selling out..
take back your scene.
If you watch the Penny Rimbaud interviews on youtube, you'll see that he was pretty upset that Steve was doing it. bit of a let down, thought it was a bunch of bouncers!! lol

morke - It's not crass, work it out FFS.
I'm pretty sure they don't owe us a living.
I'm pretty sure that of course they fucking do. Fuck capitalism.
