rosalie arellano What about Mark not actually reading what the game is telling him what to do/what said item does, i hate him so much when he does that.
rosalie arellano Mark for the most part is a dumbass when it comes to games that require you to pay attention, a lovable dumbass but a dumbass all the same. So many times I have seen him miss important info or obvious things he missed cause he is trying too hard to keep constant commentary going so his brain doesn't fully register what's going on in the game. You need evidence, there was some Amnesia custom story he was doing and the key was sitting right in front of him and he didn't even see it until maybe some 5 minutes of pacing back and forth through the room. I think this is an issue for most let's players cause if you aren't a good multi-tasker then you're gonna lack either in the commentary or the gameplay, in this case the gameplay.
rosalie arellano First, I'm female. Second, I don't understand why you feel the need to yell at me for merely saying that Mark shouldn't play this game as a little Indie thing, but as a fully fleshed out game that a large number of people had worked on for 2 or more years. I only wish for him to stop running through it and actually pay attention to what it tells him - almost every "Oh god what do I do here" could have been avoided by things like reading the last sentence on the Disarm Traps tutorial, or reading the tut on Melee Attacks that had popped up (which also would have told him about stuff in the crates). I only want for him to learn like he did with Alien:Isolation and take it a little slower. It'll be worth it for him for the game experience and for us as audience.
So Mark is all about smashing boxes in G-mod but completely forgets that the game tells him he can smash the box in the beginning of the game? it rolls around when he touches it. Come on mark XD
I just binged all of Mark's Evil Within 2 videos after somehow never hearing about this series and was absolutely blown away. Now I'm coming back to watch the first one. Cant wait to see what the 3rd is about.
Just the whole zombies/undead-thing and stabbing them in the head. I've been watching the first four seasons of TWD during the past week, so I guess it's kinda stuck in my head, haha

This game, is all over the place. Like hey its a mental asylum game! Hey its a zombie game! Hey its a horror game! Hey its a stealth game! Hey this is *literally everything*
from what I've seen so far, it honestly doesn't look very good. it seems pretty cliche (dude with chainsaw, chase scene, wierd cerebral plot, stereotype detective character) and while the mechanics of the game convey helplessness, the cutscenes show over-the-top michael bay action
Sgt. Glebov just said the same thing on the 1st part like 1/2 an hour ago! Although it could be fun to play so I'm not super bashing it but it's less scary than PvZ: Garden Warfare! It's beautiful and cut-scenes are epic (more suited to action though) but the cliches, ugh! Oh, and don't even try and explain the gun upgrades... *facepalm* Where is Silent Hills already!
Hey this is an ADVENTURE structured HORROR game! it transitions very well and keeps you on your toes, no time to relax at all. does it matter what genre it's portraying at the time if the game is awesome?
Yeah, how dare the game have a lot of variety! And of course there's some ridiculous action bits, there was in RE4 too and that's one of the best games of all time.
Rewatching this in 2023 after rewatching Elusis a week ago and I realise that after Elusis something about blacksmiths just wedged itself into Mark's brain lol
Shinji Mikami a.k.a. the father of Resident Evil is the lead director of this so that RE feel is definitely there - but believe me, it plays WAY differently to Resident Evil 4.
am i the only person who has an obsession with knowing the back story of games like this? like i need to know why it's like this and stuff. I know weird. 😖😂😭
I know! I will start watching something and all of a sudden I'm looking up the backstory and EVERY SINGLE CUT SCENE!!!! and then I regret snooping........................
A lot of people complained this would be just another outlast, after the first chapter you get to actually kill things. So much for Outlast. -.- I'm excited to see more of this game. With Shinji Mikami directing and claiming it to be a true return to survival horror, I'm excited.
This is really awesome to watch. It's creepy and funny. And yes, sneaking up behind people and stabbing them is actually a part of standard police training, according to my dad. It was part of his training
7:00 - 7:07 I think Mikami is trying to remind us of another survival-horror game he's responsible for but I can't quite put my finger on which one. What could it be? If I remember right, I think it was called "President Weevil" or something like that, I don't know; I'm sure that no one even remembers the game that I'm thinking of...
The video seems to be a lot brighter than what he saw when he was playing. Chances are he brightened up the video in editing, because it can be annoying to watch gameplay that is too dark and youtube has a tendency to make videos darker.
Rewatching this to remember what all happened, now that you are playing #2!!! ❤️ Also, am a little triggered by the fact mark missed the whole melee attack tutorial and didn’t bust open the box 😳😖 lol
Redefining_Randi I had to watch this one cuz I've only seen the second, but the tower in the background looks exactly like the one from outlast 2 it's crazy
Redefining_Randi I've recently started playing it, it's rather good but I wanted to play the game when I first heard of it, but my mom wanted to play it first so I waited three years, so now I'm on the third chapter of the game. And plus I've never seen a game with zombies like these!!!!
Ethan Edwards yeah i know you can't fight them with melee i know because i bought the game today i finished chapter 4 and i am lucky that i didn't watch the original game in the youtube so i can play it for my self.(i mean i bought it 2 days ago)
"I want to be very thorough in this game" he says, as he casually strolls past all cells without bothering to check for clues or other stuff. That's the good ol' Mark alright.. Not that I know if it's possible to peek in as I never played the game, but I would at least had checked! ;)
And then you throw up profusely at the disgusting and messed up monster and environmental designs later in the game. Like seriously, the two headed zombie things later in the game scare the hell out of me.
gotta thank you Mark, I have been bedridden since Sunday,(its Tuesday now) due to a herniated disc in my lower back and watching your videos has made recovering much easier. keep up the good work, my daughter an I love watching.
33:25 This part reminds me so much of when Leon and Ashley from RE4 were trying to escape the Ganados (the village people infected with the Los Plagas parasites) and they ran into Salazar's Castle.
Me: "Oh god the zombie apocalypse is here! I'm dead meat for sure"! Mark Zombie: "Groannnnn… I'm a gunna catch u and eat ur guts! Wait... how do I run after you? HOW DO I ATTACK YOU!!!!??? (Stumbles around helplessly). Me... okay, not scared anymore.
According to wikipedia [yeah I know], the same person who directed Resident Evil also directed Evil Within. My problem is that this is a poor horror game, in that it's not even scary and it seems to be super dumbed down to where it's way too linear. [from the first area of the main character saying "i can't be seen" as if we didnt know that already] I'm also seeing poor adoptions from Silent Hill: The Room where the character wakes up in the same place after going through a certain source. [SH4 is a hole in the wall, Evil Within is a mirror] The falling waterblood slide was kind of a carbon copy of Silent Hill Downpour [which sucks hardcore to me]. The main character is so bland. He had absolutely nothing to say about his cut leg, which should have been infected by the pool of blood, as well as the nasty water afterwards. The city falling apart thing was so Michael Bay as Mark described. That, and there were so many movie cliches - EVERY time you made it out of a reaalllyyy close and dire situation practically unscathed. Your stealth, in the beginning at least, has absolutely no purpose if Mr Gatekeeper [only because he looks like a recycled Gatekeeper from Bethesda's Oblivion] was going to chase you down anyway. The key thing only to trip an alarm of all things. tl;dr This game is not doing it for me. I really can't bear to watch it anymore, but I can say I tried. I honestly am curious about the story itself, but it's really boring so far. I agree with Lady Scattergun in thats is more of an over the, pure gore story than a horror one. This game isnt scary at all, to me [and I'm rather faint of heart at that].
Hikaru Kita It is exactly as you think it is. The game is not horror in any way. It uses very old, cliché gameplay mechanics, has a poor, recycled storyline, clunky controls, really bad camera angles, and worst of all, fails to incite any feeling of fear, dread, or horror. This could be the most disappointing game of 2014, and even contends for worst game of 2014 in general. The only thing that MIGHT keep me watching is Marks amazing commentary.
lol...Mark as a hitman...... "Alright you sonofabitch....i'm gonna put a bullet in your head!" *fires 6 rounds...2 in the collar bone...one in the left shoulder...3 rounds hit the wall* reloads pistol, cylinder falls out on floor...bullets gently roll out........... Stabs guy instead... "Next time..don't fuck with MARKIPLIER....."Mark picks up the bullets and pistol parts...
I wish I would've watched this when he first played this. I love Evil Within, I have over 500 hours in it, there are so many things and secrets I coulda helped with :(. Also Ruvik is my baby
The story isn't subtle, it's just lacking in some major areas and is told rather poorly. It basically boils down to piecing together Ruvik's background so you can understand the setting, because Sebastian has essentially no motivation and character development is virtually non-existent. The sequel did better in that regard.
Mark: i want to be thorough with this game, and find things, because there's a lot to it. Mark: * doesn't look thoroughly at the other paths, and doesn't break boxes... Smh
+BanterQueenTin I used to be one of those people that disliked Mark and Pewds is because they played games I wasn't interested in. I got over it and now I watch both of them!
He should destroy every box that he sees. You get items from the boxes and the game probably gets extremely hard if you just ignore them. Also there is stuff that tells you more about the story close to the place where you save your game so he should check them out when he gets to the save and upgrade area.
7:16 Curious moment of selective blindness. 17:08 _... Oh, right... my Life is dead. The ugly threw another punch in the opposite direction and hit me again. I think this is the part when I fall down and never get up._ ::proceeds to fall down casually::
To people saying this isn't scary. I've seen the walkthrough and you haven't seen NOTHING yet. This is like a horror version of Inception. It's a sever mindfuck of a game. Many different monsters, traps, and environment changes.
I can't be the only one who thinks the main character's voice acting is really unenthusiastic and bad. He doesn't sound scared or freaked out enough about the horrifying situations around him.
I guess he is just too cool and collected? Plus I guess with his "years" of experienced, and probably seen more than we think, he has hardened and knows how to keep a cool head, even when everything has gone to hell.
***** Good point, while I do admit that he should atleast have a bit more of an reaction, I am ok with it. Atleast he questions the things happening around him.
It kind of takes away from the game if the character is either too scared (like if they needlessly cower and shiver at every turn), or too brave (such as making puns whenever a threat shows up, like if at 15:54 he said "Wire you still moving?"). It's a delicate balance and almost impossible to add an "adequately concerned" voice to. The character's emotions should be portrayed in other ways. That's something Amnesia did well. They added responses such as the shake in vision with a gasp if something happened suddenly. Also, around 11:58 when he's at the Upgrade place, the first time he was there he was understandably freaking out a bit, but now it's just another day at the office. It would've been better if he was dragged to the chair kicking and screaming each time. Part of the game's problem is poor plot cohesion.
Mark's Evil Within playthrough is definitely a comfort series for me, I come back to rewatch it occasionally and I always love it. That being said I take psychic damage everytime he mispronounces Castellanos
+MrJealous Yeah the game confuse me also when I played it. I am thinking either he is in a coma and thinking of all these things because of the title, he is being experimented on after he got knocked out, or he is a crazy killer. Reminds me of a creepypasta story when a dad found his family dead and thought someone murdered them, but it was him that killed everyone

Kyrax
I don't actually hate him for it but it just makes me want to headdesk really hard sometimes.... like... it's RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU ^^
So Mark is all about smashing boxes in G-mod but completely forgets that the game tells him he can smash the box in the beginning of the game? it rolls around when he touches it. Come on mark XD
I just binged all of Mark's Evil Within 2 videos after somehow never hearing about this series and was absolutely blown away. Now I'm coming back to watch the first one. Cant wait to see what the 3rd is about.
They better make a third one for Mark to play. Or Imma do it for them
Ah, back in the day when soup was not yet a reality.

Damn it, i thought i said it first.

This is like a weird combination of Amnesia, Outlast and Silent Hill. I like it!
With a little bit of that third person shooter game of RE6.
And The Walking Dead, lol
Sabrina Soto Wait how?
Just the whole zombies/undead-thing and stabbing them in the head. I've been watching the first four seasons of TWD during the past week, so I guess it's kinda stuck in my head, haha
Sabrina Soto Oh I see.
You know, I love the little original Resident Evil reference with the first zombie in this. Clever.

I noticed it too, haha. :'D

Holy crap, 6:55 looks exactly like the scene in the first Resident Evil when you encounter the first zombie.
Welcome to the Real "Resident Evil 4".
(Closed) It certainly feels more like a Resident Evil game than RE4 did, not that RE4 was a bad game. It just wasn't particularly good at horror.
Not much of a surprised since this game was made by the creator of the RE series. The more I watch this the more RE vibes I get.
***** It's a better remake of that scene than the literal remake of Resident Evil since they changed it. =P
***** Was Resident Evil by Bethesda?
I can't believe how much your channel has grown in the last 3-4 years. I subscribed to you when you only had about 400,000 and now you're at 4 million!!! Keep up the hard work Mark. Markiplier

Don't worry, Mark. I'm also bad at shooting with a gamepad/controller/whatever you wanna call it, especially when I try to get a headshot. Jeez, I always have to aim as long as possible so that I don't miss. -Good thing you can hide in the bushes in Far Cry Primal so that the enemies don't notice you-

Hey this is an ADVENTURE structured HORROR game! it transitions very well and keeps you on your toes, no time to relax at all. does it matter what genre it's portraying at the time if the game is awesome?
except it's not a barbie game
Yeah, how dare the game have a lot of variety! And of course there's some ridiculous action bits, there was in RE4 too and that's one of the best games of all time.
Rewatching this in 2023 after rewatching Elusis a week ago and I realise that after Elusis something about blacksmiths just wedged itself into Mark's brain lol
lol
After bringing up about Outlast (because of something about the psychological and the insane), it also look like it does like Resident Evil to me.
Shinji Mikami a.k.a. the father of Resident Evil is the lead director of this so that RE feel is definitely there - but believe me, it plays WAY differently to Resident Evil 4.
Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. I do remember seeing that game before. I should see it in another time.
SunWukong1984 the zombie introduction was also from resident evil. the head that's half eaten, and zombie slowly turning to face you.
The Evil Within should have had a movie like Resident Evil...

at 7:36 how did he not see the guy get back up? (facepalm)
The video seems to be a lot brighter than what he saw when he was playing. Chances are he brightened up the video in editing, because it can be annoying to watch gameplay that is too dark and youtube has a tendency to make videos darker.

Redefining_Randi I've recently started playing it, it's rather good but I wanted to play the game when I first heard of it, but my mom wanted to play it first so I waited three years, so now I'm on the third chapter of the game. And plus I've never seen a game with zombies like these!!!!

That doesn't sound scary at all!
This doesn't really strike me as a horror game. It honestly seems more like a stealthy version of Resident Evil, and not the scary versions.
Residents Creed
Yeah its more like a Slasher B movie than a disturbing creepy one. Its fun, but not scary.
It's only the beginning! Maybe after Mark finishes the game, then you can judge if it's a horror game or not.
Dont I REPEAT DONT watch this at two AM with the lights off in your basement with no one home. Worst thing that you could do to your sanity.

@@k.Kayzen I mean we can share him if it bothers you so much :*
The story isn't subtle, it's just lacking in some major areas and is told rather poorly. It basically boils down to piecing together Ruvik's background so you can understand the setting, because Sebastian has essentially no motivation and character development is virtually non-existent. The sequel did better in that regard.

You get items from the boxes and the game probably gets extremely hard if you just ignore them.
Also there is stuff that tells you more about the story close to the place where you save your game so he should check them out when he gets to the save and upgrade area.

Atleast he questions the things happening around him.
well he is a detective they see some very wacky stuff
Brony Time
... dude. i don't WANT to know what kind of detective goes through enough shit that THIS barely phases him XD
Mark's Evil Within playthrough is definitely a comfort series for me, I come back to rewatch it occasionally and I always love it.

It's totally confusing...
So confusing..I..I can't even
It'll probably make sense at the end of the game or we'll get a Dark Souls explanation.
And thus, the fabled Soup Deliverer was born.
