      I find it odd that people speak of alien races as if they don’t have any aggression. There are three things an alien race would need to reach space. 1 oxygen atmosphere. 2. Water 3. Aggression. I’m not talking for just any life I am talking any intelligent species would need these things. Life could form in space but a civilization needs these things or its cave dwelling for eternity.

      Sometimes a sword is not needed to kill someone, but to protect your own family. Let's imagine a village inhabited only by farmers who do not make swords, but only make tools. And next to them is another Viking village living by robberies of other villages. The whole of Western Europe, and later the United States, obtained its high standard of living by plundering other countries. Previously, they plundered other countries, calling the purpose of their raids the happiness of the natives with the true faith. The Crusaders plundered other countries in the name of God. Now other countries are being attacked and robbed in the name of "democracy", forgetting the true meaning of the word Democracy. Western Europe has become rich thanks to attacks on other countries and plundering their resources. Now the United States is attacking other countries and American companies that extract minerals and are not obliged to pay taxes in the defeated country appear in the defeated countries... Absolutely nothing new, a quote from the Bible (Vanity of vanities, - said Ecclesiastes, - vanity of vanities, - all is vanity! What is the use to a man of all his labors, with which he labors under the sun? The generation passes, and the generation comes, and the earth remains forever. The sun rises, and the sun sets, and hurries to his place where it rises. The wind goes to the south, and passes to the north, turns, turns on the move, and the wind returns to its circles. All rivers flow into the sea, but the sea does not overflow: to the place from where the rivers flow, they return to flow again. All things are in labor: a person cannot retell everything; the eye will not be satisfied with sight, the ear will not be filled with listening. What has been, will be; and what has been done, will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. There is something they talk about: "Look, this is new," but it was already in the centuries that were before us. There is no memory of the former; and those who will be after will have no memory of what will be.
      I, Ecclesiastes, was king over Israel in Jerusalem; and I devoted my heart to exploring and testing with wisdom everything that is done under heaven: God gave this difficult task to the sons of men so that they would exercise themselves in it. I have seen all the things that are done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and longing of the spirit! What is crooked cannot become straight, and what is not, cannot be counted. And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know folly and folly: I learned that this, too, is a longing of the spirit; because there is much sorrow in much wisdom; and who multiplies knowledge, multiplies sorrow.) Who can accuse Russia of forging new and better swords for itself? The Crusaders also came to Russia in the same way -as they did not like the Russian Christian Orthodox religion, they wanted to bring the power of the Pope... Not all crusaders were able to return home from this campaign...

    If you do the energy calculations for hypersonic missiles, they become less scary. The sheer amount of fuel required to launch and accelerate a sizeable mass to mach 8 makes then relatively small and relatively short range weapons. It would require 800 pounds of fuel for each pound of payload to carry the payload 500 miles. So, if you increase the payload to 1,200 pounds, it requires 1 million pounds of fuel to move it 500 miles. The only scenario where this pays off, militarily, is ballistic trajectory. So, same old ICBM story, just faster. And for the traditional battlefield, very short range. The Russian "hypersonic cruise missile" has a range of about 20 miles, carrying a 30 kilo (44 pound) kinetic weapon. Think tungsten sabot. That is why the US Navy only backed off 100 miles from the China coast. China's short range hyper weapons specifications are very similar to Russia's. Hmm, how did that happen?
    It is also why none (NONE) of the current generation are anything other than a very short range kinetic weapon, or very fast ICBM. That is correct, no nuclear payload, no explosive payload, just a tungsten weight launched to incredible velocity. This is why the US invested so heavily (and erroneously) in railgun technology. The US thought we could level the playing field with magnets instead of more traditional forms of propulsion.
    Also, this infograph presents a false scale of theater when it talks about flying below the radar horizon. Think more cruise missile )10-100) miles) and less intercontinental. Nations today have no radar horizon due to space-based satellites. Naval carrier groups do have radar horizons. They are also much closer to a launch vehicle. Hyperspeed weapons technology is still in its infancy. What really scares me is photon based weapons. Literally speed of light weapons.
    Our technology has exceeded our humanity. When are we going to realize how much good we could do if we devoted all of these resources and energy into helping each other instead of building faster ways to kill each other. We really are aggressive monkeys with sticks, showing each other our erect penises and beating our chests. If modern humans are a technologically advanced civilization, I pray we devolve quickly.

    Finally someone recognizing that it's basic physics that's speculated, like gravity and friction, possibly the Earth magnetic field and those vertical waves are intended only to increase speed and not to fool chasers, this being only a side effect. The 10 Mach + speeds are achieved on the last portion of trajectory only -when they "disappear" from radar. Indeed once accurately established in a powerful computer on ground, the optimal trajectory depending on the distance to the target, a fixed table of such trajectories is loaded with a simple interpolation logic, so once the target coordinates are loaded the optimal trajectory is easily established by interpolating existing data. To get those ones however some homework must be done: correct physical phenomena and parameters introduced in the flight simulator software -on ground, by many corrective experiments done with much cheaper 10/20 times smaller rockets, some AI and numeric algebra algorithms used for faster results. Even Putin admitted that any country having cruise/ballistic missiles can soon have it, like Pakistan or Egypt. It will be very sad to realize later that war in Ukraine lasted more than 6-9 months, while most countries having cruise/ballistic missiles could have had it in 2-3 months sparing a million civil lives, as now Putin has the upper hand and tries to take the maximum profit while still can.

    They are also not undetectable or unstoppable, and can be intercepted by current defence systems. It does not matter how fast the missile is travelling, an anti missile system shoots an incept course which is highly deadly. Also, the manoeuvrability of hypersonic missiles at Mach 10 is very limited, they need to slow down to make tight short turns, and then are unable to regain speed.

      I personally don't think so. Navy pilots are very familiar with missiles. They are confronted with them almost the entire length of their careers. So if something that looks remotly like a missle and flies like a missle passes them, they'd go like:
      Damn I just saw a really really fast missile.
      I think it takes something extraordinary for them to deviate from their normal thought process of classifing everything that flies either as a plane or some kind of rocket , cruise missile or so.
      Something that truly takes their breath away and makes them feel like they have to tell others, even though they know they'll face redicule, but they still do it because they are almost certain that this object is not man made and they have an obligation to tell others.
      I mean these people are aviation experts highly trained in split second observation.
      They wouldn't risk their entire career because of something their're not sure of.
      We trust these people with our best and strongest weapons and the testimony of two of them would easily be enough to give someone a life sentence.
      So why is it that so many people don't believe them on this topic?
      Because they don't want to because it makes them uncomfortable.
      I would strongly encourage everyone to watch the 32 minute video of the nimitz encounters while trying to keep an open mind. It is scary but also tremendously interesting! Enjoy!

      @@mythos5809 Good luck handling a non ballistic based defense system. Photons Count as ballistic by the way so I'm not talking about lasers. The most modern carrier class can power all of its systems including the laser, rail guns, propulsion, and electromagnetic catapult using 1/3rd the electrical generation system. That means that 2/3rds of the nuclear electrical generation for the carrier is for something else. The only reason why you would need that kind of electrical generation capabilities is if you are playing with particle physics. Now what kind of defensive system would utilize particle physics thats not a laser? What kind of defensive system would require nuclear reactors to power? I hope for China's sake their is nothing ferrous in their missiles. It would be a shame if an electromagnetic field melted their ballistics and fried their guidance systems. I wonder what would happen if you created a fusion power style containment field around a ship? Lol. Hahaha, the Chinese think ballistics will give them an advantage. How 20th century. If China shoots one of those toys at a Ford class the Chinese will surrender within minutes when they learn what the US has. It is impossible for China to overtake the US military.

      Hypersonic weapons have been made since the 70's the US had the Aim54 which flew on the F14s. Despite what this video says,it's honestly like 80 percent wrong, hypersonic missiles can not maneuver do to their speed, Russias own patent admitting so, they can even self destruct. Making them only good for first strike weapons.
      "Russian patent number 2579409 relates to the field of rocket technology, and more specifically to hypersonic cruise missiles equipped with a hypersonic ramjet engine. The invention describes a method of application and device hypersonic cruise missile (CRPD), allowing to solve the problem of performing a combat mission to destroy ground and surface targets of such a missile. The described invention is designed to maximize the combat potential of the CMP with the scramjet.
      The design mode for the scramjet are high-altitude cruise conditions while maintaining the estimated cruise speed, and the need to reduce the altitude and flight speed creates difficult technical problems due to the fact that:
      an engine designed to perform a hypersonic mid-flight at high altitude is not able to continue to work at low-altitude trajectory sections associated with a decrease in the flight number M, hence, the rocket must approach the ground or surface target with an inactive engine;
      characteristics of sustainability and controllability of CRPD with inactive scramjet significantly deteriorate, loss of stability becomes possible;
      there is also a danger of destruction of the scramjet design due to the increase in pressure in the flow part of the engine while reducing the CMP from the march height before hitting the target."

      It's the curvature of the earth that makes it impossible to detect for most of its flight.
      The observable horizon is 50km. Meaning you have 25 seconds after detecting it before it will hit (if you detect it immediately...usualy it would come unexpectedly).
      But, currently there's nothing on earth that can track and target hypersonic missiles reliably...so even if you detect it in the 25 seconds, there's nothing you can do about it.

    The most viable counter is the Rail Gun, which the British had a huge headstart in, having invented, built and tested prototypes years ago. If the British government fumbles the ball with such lead and doesn't have Royal Navy combat vessels armed with Rail Guns before the next major conflict, it will be painful.
