THANK YOU for actually making a video setting up a PS Portal without a PS5. All the other RUclips channels say you can use it without a PS5 but it's already set up with a PS5.
Good vids man, keep it up. I feel like your niche is a tech reviewer who doesn't get too technical for the more casual enthusiast. You're also honest about your impressions of things. Don't let any sponsorships make you biased. That would kill your channel. I hope you do get loads of sponsorships, just don't let them buy your approval.
My biggest problem with the Portal(even while streaming from a ps5) is that it uses variable bitrate and the maximum it will use is not very high. I think it's around 15 mbps for 1080p which is just not enough to get a streaming experience without streaming artifacts. I love that 3rd party solutions (like chiaki) allow you to choose the bitrate and that makes a huge difference in image quality.
I love when people find out about the Dual Sense (not dual shock) for the first time. It's the single biggest reason I can't play controller games on xbox or PC anymore. The Dynamic triggers and dynamic vibrations are a whole new world. You should buy a PS5 and play astro (the free one and the paid one).
The portal is awesome, sure you can stream your ps5 on Chiaki, but from my experience I don't get a solid connection and even if I do (I don't) I am missing the Dual Sense Controller experience. Play some Gran Turismo and feel the track when you race, the controller makes all the difference!
I gotta give Sony props for their cloud servers compared to gamepass. As long as the connection is stable, your game will also be. The lack of latency in itself is amazing. Great to learn that It performs the seme even without a console. On gamepass, like you said, it constantly "feels" like you're streaming, which kinda defeats the purpose IMO. Latency is so noticeable especially in FPS games to the point where you're thinking "I would be playing a lot better on actual hardware" and that's a sucky feeling. Also, Dualsense is one of those things where explaining the effect doesn't really do it justice. When I first read about adaptive triggers it got me excited, but actually trying them was really cool with how immersive they are. Althought I'll admit, I play with them turned off in multiplayer games haha. Awesome video man you earned a sub :D
I own Legion Go & Steam deck. But recently i bought Ps Portal for a dirt cheap price, subscribed to ps plus premium. this portal has a lot of potential, im on a point that i wish that my games on other hand held will work like this 1080p , super fast loading while you're in the game, the battery life 5-6 hrs!! and the device is super light weight, unlike my other handheld. Only problem is im forced to play their list of games from the library. Cant play my other bought games/wanted games
They need to make cloud streaming just for psplus , you shouldn’t have to have premium to access ….. they charge you $$$ for a limited controller with a screen
I like your videos, but this one... dunno. I own PS Portal and before the latest update it was unusable. Low bitrate and microsttuters all over the place. Well now everything was fixed and we can stream Cloud Games which is nice, however you have to pay PlayStation Premium service which is overpriced. Also you speak about DualShock which is PS4 controller and you mean DualSense which is PS5 one. Seems you were unprepared for this video. Sorry for the criticism, I really like your content, but I feel you need to hear even some feedback.
I have literally no idea why someone would ever buy one of these. When the price difference and the size is similar to the steam deck. And the steam deck can stream perfectly well, doesn't cost a monthly subscription to use, and has access to native games without the need for Wi-Fi. Games which can be had for far cheaper. Even if all I wanted was to stream games, I would buy a steam deck over this every time. Especially considering it would have better battery life
for me a ps portal and a yearly subscription for ps plus premuim would cost 400 euro by that point you might as well just keep the 400 and save 100 more to jst get a normal ps5
How did you manage to get only 2 hours of batterie ? Mostly, i’m around 4/5hours ! But i’m reducing the effects inside the controller (mostly the triggers)
Logitech G Cloud is superior the portal... literally no reason to buy PS Portal now. Great video though! To bad streaming doesnt work in all countries due to high latency.... :(
Really all you gotta do is buy a PlayStation controller & hook it up to whatever pc you own. You don’t even have to pay $200 for a portal. I own a one x player that has an actual usb port & you just disconnect the controller attachments & plug in the ps4 controller thru that usb & there you go. Understand that psnow is piss poor & isn’t anywhere close to game pass. You will find exactly not one single newer game published by Sony on this service. You won’t find the latest God of War game or the latest Horizon West game or Spider-man 2 or either of the newer Final Fantasy games. You won’t find Stellar Blade. You won’t even find Returnal. That’s what you are paying for if you buy a PlayStation Portal & you don’t own a ps5. Many of these games playable via purchasing them for the pc if you don’t own a ps5. Almost none of them can be played on that portal.
As an official PS product it's priced well. If I agree with your $80 assessment and then tack on a $80 dualsense controller it's already $160. Then make it an official tablet and pre-install the PS OS and you're at $200. It may not be appealing to you personally, but it's not overpriced.
Well for one thing, the wifi chip this has is definitely much better than a one on a 100 dollar tablet. Added dual sense and the hardware, this is actually not a bad deal. The thing is, with another 100 bucks, or more, this could have been turned to "Just a tablet with a controller attached to it" to Psp3
Wrong way to present the information. As a Playstation 5 owner($500), I pay $130 year for Playstation Premium. The PS5 can play physical, digital, and stream video games at home. As a Playstation Portal owner($200), I can stream games (I've already paid for Playstation Premium) anywhere I have access to a good Wi-Fi connection. To boot up any game from a Steam Deck, ROG Ally or Portal, you'll need Wi-Fi. So, the requirement for someone to have Wi-Fi to use the Portal is the same for most handhelds. The Portal is worth the money now you can stream. The library will change and probably get bigger.
"To boot up any game from a Steam Deck you'll need Wifi" Wrong way to present the information. I have tons of games on my Deck that I can access without the need for any sort of Internet connection.
You download the steam games directly to your steam deck from the steam store, you don’t need Wi-Fi to play them once they’re downloaded. Think of it like a digital content only system and not a streaming system.
@ I just don’t think $200 is worth it to stream playstation games. My cellphone can do that. 😂 at least with the switch lite I could play my games without the worry of connection loss or input lag. ( i don’t have either i have a steam deck and a desktop )
Completely different library. The Switch isn't going to give you access to GTA5, GTA6, the PS4 library, modern sports games, Ghost of Tsushima, Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, etc etc. If you want to play Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, sure, get the Switch.
I like your content dude but I don't think it's particularly safe yet to just say you can rock a PSPortal without a PS5 console. Clearly you had issues setting it up without and one and imagine if someone less informed as you or your audience got one for themselves or their kids, they may not ever be able to figure out how. Until Sony outright makes it an official standalone streaming device, which they could do via updates in the future, I would call this experimental at best.
Lets hope for a true PSP Vita successor.
Straight up
The already said they working in a portable when u can play ps5 games
They announced they're going to make a handheld that can play PS5 games. So it's coming! We'll see if they fumble it though.
Odin 2 Mini bro
Hopefully it’s not too long a wait!
I see Kurt Cobain mixed with Sting and now I cannot unsee it :D

I made a rule! No sponsors for handhelds or whatever I talk about in the video
@@CyberDopamine good rule. If I could subscribe twice I would!
Glad to hear the adaptive trigger awesomeness is a highlight for you - friggin loooooove the Dualsense. Dope video as always man!
Heck yeah brother ur content is rad dude I love it
@ thank you g likewise! I’m sure you get this a lot but I diiiiiiig the chill vibes you do with videos.
Yup best portal vid all week
This should have been available at launch
Exactly lol, they did this after i sold mine
@BOIZEEM If they sold this with this feature and a month of PSPlus Premium. It would have justified the price.
cyber dopamine smashing out vids, well done my man

Thanks you so much fo a guy who doesn't own a ps5 dis is useful information I'm definitely getting one now
I recently just asked about expanding to different handhelds and immediately you put out new things. Must have already been cooking. Nice.
Christmas tree looks good sir, still waiting on that setup video. Hopefully we get to see more frequent uploads like this

YOU CAN TOTALLY “RAW DOG” A PS PORTAL, WAS CRAZY WORK 😂
Found your video when looking up ps portal and now a voice because of your voice tbh
Dope dude!
the only thing better than that portal is that jawline
I ran to Target and got one when heard about the update Lol
A new psp made for cloud gaming with like insane battery life and voice chat and all those stuff without limitations would be awesome
The HandHeld Era has Begun!!!
i can’t wait for The Switch 2, Steam Deck 2, PlayStation Native HandHeld, and The XBox Native HandHeld. ✋🎮✋
Xbox has never came out with a handheld and never will
@ 2026 💚
Awesome I’m gonna check it out

Good to know. Thanks.
Just bought the portal as well no ps5 but plays great so far 🎉
This is a very good video
Bought mine some days ago and I love it so much. I already have a ps5 but is a,axing to play in my bed and not just on my cough

Was definitely not expecting this! Maybe one day we’ll have N actual PS/Xbox handheld
The Xbox handheld is called ROG Ally, Legion Go or any handheld PC
@ no
@@InceptionAnims yes.
@@InceptionAnims the Ally was even marketed as the Xbox handheld. Even came with like 3 months of gamepass.

Nice video I'm thinking about getting one but I dont have a ps5.
Depending on the game you play determines battery life

Sucks for us in Australia tho no cloud streaming 😂😢
Can u cloud stream those ps3 games? Like GOD of war 1 and 2?
A vita can do that
Shaggy
🤣
In my opinion the playstation portal looks the best out of all handhelds. Just a shame they fumbled it
Went to Best Buy during work when the update was released. As someone with a kid and haven’t played any Sony exclusives the Portal is perfect.
Do you have to own games does gives you some games like games pass
Logitech G Cloud is superior the portal... literally no reason to buy PS Portal now. Great video though! To bad streaming doesnt work in all countries due to high latency.... :(
I think you have some voice filtering going on in your mic, Would you be able to turn that off? It should sound way better then :)
Handheld king 🫡
xbox cloud gaming has been a nightmare for me lol its constantly like screen tearing
How’s the screen compared to the steam deck oled
When streaming a two player game can you use a second controller and play 2 player?
At this point people will buy anything 😊
How much are you charging for that emoji bro. 🤔
What happens when the sticks start drifting?
Just replacing them
It's DualSense, not DualShock. But yeah, it's neat.
Wow i actually dont have a ps5 i might actually buy this
Do you need WiFi to cloud stream the games ? Or can play without WiFi ?
I dont have ps5 but i do have psn account , when setting up without ps5 do you need to sign into your psn account ?
Can you get Sims on it and how do you download games
What is the name of the snowboard game?
Riders or something. I was made by either EA or Ubisoft. You can do mountain bikes n stuff too
Do you need internet for cloud streaming?
How about testing it outdoors? Can it still play when you're at the mall or a coffee shop?
Bro what kind of hoodie is this ?

I hope Sony releases a Switch killer next gen. Joycons are an abomination.
If I buy the game on PS5 can I cloud stream within downloading to ps5
👍👍👍👍👍
Put some socks on bro. Got to have socks on while at the crib bro.
He spent all his money on the portal so he couldn't afford socks. 😢

That’s super valid. I like that.
@CyberDopamine rain as in betas fulls
can you cloud stream play the games on ur ally x?
yes you could
Not the PS Portal catalog
$200 for this is not a great deal, this is basically a $80 tablet with with a dual-sense build it.
and a new dualsense is 80 bucks... and a 1080p screen is not seen on a 80 bucks tablet... the amazon tablets in this price have HD or SD screens
