How to setup a tank for Axolotl = -fresh clean dechlorinated water -use bigger stone(they might accidently eat them)like Slate rock -Provide a lot of Hides for them(they hate light) -20 gallon long tank is best option -filtration (with sponge, hose, air pump) -tank top cover(if u have another pets like dogs and cats, and axolotl can jump out of water) -Hook up the air sponge to the air pump(20 gallons air pump) -Thermometer(temperature 60-65°F) -Bubbler(for bubble in tank water) -flooville filter(upright position is better)
Ahhhh!! I have been in love with these little guys for so damn long!! Begged my parents to get one when I was about 10, but after watching all you RUclips and TikTok videos about them, I am soooo glad she said no! I had no clue about the amount of work that is needed to just prepare everything for them and I know that I would not have looked after it correctly!!
Hello! I just stumbled upon your videos! I have two axolotls myself and I love them so much. This is probably one of the best videos I've seen and your other one talking about axolotl basic tank products. I work at a local pet store and I go through an axolotl keeping talk at least once a day, so this is normally the talk I have as well! You really did a great job. I do have one thing I think would be beneficial to talk about. Cycling a tank before putting an axolotl in it I believe is important. While you can put them in before and monitor their water parameters, most people don't have the knowledge of the nitrogen cycle and what to look out for when they are cycling. It also gives owners a chance to learn about water parameters before they start taking care of an axolotl. When I first kept an axolotl I had no idea what pH, ammonia, nitrites, or nitrates meant. Honestly it would probably take a whole video to discuss, but this is something I wish somebody would have talked to me about before owning an axolotl. I hope you cover this in the future! Good luck with your axolotl endeavors and well wishes to the lotl babies you are giving so much love and care to! I might just work on rescuing these babies myself learning about your stories. 💖
Thanks for this video! I was looking up how you take care of them and found this, From what a read it said a 10 cal tank per axolotl! now I know that a 20 cal is much better. Thanks!

stressinabox I have done lots of research already! But, I am worried about what I should feed it. I googled it and it said to feed it bloodworms, earthworms, or salmon pellets. What do you use to feed yours?
How did you do your first tank cycle? I ordered the same dechlorinator and tank just few droplets for the amount of 20 gallons and filter and wait? Thank you
How do yal keep your tanks so cool? Without a heater im reading 68 i havnt gotten the axolotl yet im trying to set up the tank for it any help appreciated! ☺️☺️☺️
There is actually no scientific proof that axolotls thrive better in pairs. BUT if you follow my videos on Tiktok and as I stated in this video, this is a temporary set up for him. He is in quarantine as I just got him last week and want to make sure he has no parasites or infections that could infect my other tanks and axolotls. I never keep them in a single set up because I personally believe they thrive better in groups. But rescues, surrenders, and new additions need to be kept alone to monitor for any health issues before I can put them with other axolotls. But again... No proof that they NEED to be pairs or groups. Regardless, he is being kept by himself to make sure he is healthy before I put him with my others.

i recently got new axolotl (his name is alejandro) and i wanted to know if it would be safe to put a live moss carpet in as a substrate instead of sand ?
So I have everything for the tank but I recently got two axolotls and I’m not sure how much/ often to feed them. They are like in between juveniles and adults. So do I feed them twice a day or Three times a week? And when can they start having earthworms? I currently do one frozen cube of brine shrimp or blood worms per axolotl a day.
Addie Cooley You can start feeding earth worms whenever you’d like. They may need to be cut into 3rds or in half. Feed daily until they start refusing food daily. They will set their own food schedule.
I've heard a number of times that they don't like fast moving water? I like that still of filter, but looks like its moving the water around the tank very fast! Do you think they don't mind?

Question: Since the sponge filter bubbles, would you say that I would need a bubbler along with the sponge filter?
This is kinda late but most axolotls don’t like having a lot of movement in the water it can stress them out so you would only use the sponge filter. I’ve seen some axolotls that like the bubblers and will play in them but most don’t like them.

How do you make your axolotls water warmer
Thank you so much this was helpful cuz I was getting a blue pet axolotl
I’m living vicariously through you and your tanks because I do not have to ability (willingness) to maintain one of my own. So thank you for that! 😘
Can you use live plants ?
For cleaning the tank will I need to take the axolotl out of the water?
Sorry for the late reply, but no it is best to keep them in the water when cleaning the tank as taking them out can stress them out.
How do you keep your tank so cool as in cold?!!???
Im dumb and I know slate rock is ok, but would tile work as well? Hah I’m trying to do as much research as I can before asking to get an axolotl😅
Get one?
Just got a axolotl … what chiller do you recommend?
I have a 10 gallon tank and I’m only getting one juvenile Axolotl, is that enough room for it? Or do I need a larger tank?
For a juvenile that is fine but you will need to upgrade as it gets bigger to a 20 gallon tank
How do you keep tank at 65 deg? Impossible without a chiller .
You assume I don’t live in a freezer. Legit just have my thermostat at 65 year round
So I have everything for the tank but I recently got two axolotls and I’m not sure how much/ often to feed them. They are like in between juveniles and adults.
