André's discussion of 'sense memory' is the most famous feature of Proust's great masterpiece, 'À la recherche du temps perdu' or 'Remembrance of Things Past'. The entire seven-novel epic is set in motion when the narrator bites into a madeleine (a little pastry), and the taste brings back a flood of childhood memories. Actors, too, make use of this phenomenon to take them back, vividly, to a moment in time. Sense memory is a powerful thing.
GREAT presentation! And I was floored when he spoke of bell pepper, bc thats what I recently told my hub when I thought a bottle of red was bad. How cool!
I would SO love to see wine sommelier try the coffee Q grading exams. It’s the coffee equivalent. In coffee, we use Le Nez du Cafe. It would be such a cool video.
This video should have been made a long time ago because I've been watching Andre's videos for awhile and I never knew all the science behind the smells! Enjoyed this one.
Oh I love this One thing I have issues with with wine is that I have a very underdeveloped palette I was very picky eater when I was younger and I've only just started expanding my palate and so it's hard for me to recognize certain sense and notes and flavors and whatnot because I just don't have any experience with them so this is awesome
The important part as mentioned (0:22) is to apply the aroma information to best communicate with guests. Using "woody/berry" (blackcurrant), "spicy almond/musk" (hawthorn), or "honey citrus/lemon" (linden), for example, might be more relatable?
I tried the coffre variation of this at a coffee roaster in Hawaii. It was a super fun experience , and I was really proud of identifying the potato one!
@@cwg73160They show the 54 most key aromas in one kit, and then another kit that has 12 scents that are common faults in the wine making process. 300€ and 75€, respectively.
Very informative. i can only seem to catch the smell of alcohol, so it was nice to hear that it is common when you are starting out on the wine journey.
Love my kit….it is a great help but I am still the geek who still licks rocks and sniffs all the produce and baked goods at my store (yes I do buy them first 😁). The kit is also fun for our tasting group to test ourselves. We did a “fault” night a while back that was very interesting!!
Thanks for the video. I do have difficulty placing certain aromas, so the kit looks very helpful! I'm not a professional, so the price is somewhat prohibitive. But I like the concept of learning more about these aromas as much as I can.
Love the kit but price out of my budget. However what a great gift for wine lovers - like me 😁. Great to see the great Andrè..yall need to feature him more
Wondering if you are using the kit and smelling many different scents does olfactory overload occur? Making discerning the next scent difficult or impossible? Is there a way to bring your senses back to neutral? Thanks! 🍷
Request for Andre, can you please create video where to buy quality wine online? maybe share some recommendations. His opinion matters a lot, thank you!
its for people who don't have access to some of the natural aromas, a fast way to learn also. honestly i wouldnt spend on it but i can see why its useful - its just important to note that the idea of a "generic" or "aggregate" smell of ALL lemons is itself not really a "lemon". since theres so much more to smelling different lemons, and isolating a defining scent is ambiguous and not accurate since it blends into other scents which are not necessarily "lemony". i think its more important to associate scent with a memory rather than a particular chemical. that way, wine drinking becomes more fun and less like a scientific project. also, its critical not to become a snob and think one has superior tastebuds compared to others - each person has different sensitivity levels to different scents, and some may be more attuned compared to others, the mistake would be to assume that one must be able to pick out x+y+z flavors in order to enjoy wine, as opposed to picking out x1+y1+z1
I wonder if a way to use the kit to help your training is to smell two (or three) vials simultaneously. As a sommelier, are you ever tempted to take a few of these into the dining room to "educate" the customers? (Or sometimes, to make them STFU)
The idea of these kits is ok, but do you need the kit to understand the difference between lemon and orange. - You need to smell the real ingredients to memorize. If you have to open the bottles frequently ( professional/semi-professional environment) the will oxidize. Le Nez du Vin is a fun game for amateurs.

How the sausage is made: wine tasting reduced to olfactory flashcards, or . . . How I learned to sound sophisticated by memorizing these little bottles.
I guess you are referring to the Aromaster Sommelier Wine Aroma Kit with 88 aromas. It has been in the market for over 20 years and also praised by professionals.
The 'z' in 'nez' is not pronounced. So 'nez' is pronounced like 'nay' (but the '-y' sound cut short) 11:54 also, an ER is NOT clean, like "I wouldn't eat there"-level of uncleanliness. Perhaps He meant an OR?
Andre needs his own custom kit. Gasoline, nail polish, jolly ranchers, and my favorite MOUSE!
Don't forget cat pee!
Dear @BonAppetit - more André videos please! 🙏
Andre, as always, phenomenal content!

Interesting, I usually find a note of bell pepper to be pleasant in a glass of cab franc or cab sauv! Definitely trippy the first time around though!
Funny cause bell pepper is really common in a lot of reds. Especially south american wines
We got wine poppers before GTA 6.

Love these wine videos. Makes me feel better seeing Andre mess one up. 🤣
Just when I thought I’d be surprised my AHM content, I get even more impressed every time a new video comes out

André’s videos are fantastic!
It's like a periodic table but smelled😂
This video is top notch!! Thanks for sharing ❤
Love Andre content! Informative and entertaining. Perfect timing! Headed to a winery today for a tasting 🍷 ❤
After the kit is open, is there an expiration on each of the vials? If you seal each vial after testingm, will the kit still function for a while?
I love this! As a inspiring somm I can’t wait to get my hands on this. Thanks for sharing this!
Your best video by far
Another video with Andre drops, I click!! ❤️🔥
I’ve been waiting for a properly review of Le Nez Du Vin for years! Thank you
This was fascinating. Thanks!
Love Andre! I wish you would explain things even more. Like he tells us something bad, but doesn’t tell us why it’s bad-I wanna know!
I would love the kits just because I also enjoy scents in general.
I’m sure the kit is really expensive
@@erikadowdy2382 300€ to be precise.
“the kits”

Same here. The price exceeds the contents of my wine fridge 😂. There are some less expensive versions with less scents and I may treat myself.

He’s back ☝🏾
You see Andre, you hit the like button, THEN watch the video!
Even a kit for the faults... Wow! Side note: I enjoyed that Valravn chardonnay when I was in LA last year and I'd love to try the pinot noir.
Saw this in the movie French Kiss (don't judge me😂)
I though that bottle at 7:00 was a screw cap so when you started using the bottle opener it scared me and confused me lol

Awesome description. I bought a set similar to this but haven’t dived into it yet

He said "wine not". Now I'm in.
Burned into my memory, a wine review in the s.f. chronical which referenced pencil lead and cat urine to describe a white wine (Sauv Blanc, I think).
Def cat pee. Classic Sauvignon Blanc aroma, can you believe?!
There’s a kit for coffee and whiskey also!
Now Brett in beer? Very nice.
I was believing it all until the last 10 seconds, lol.
love these videos. I have a question, how long do these last? I'm guessing no more than 2 years :/
Up to 8-10 years if you store it properly.
Love your channel bruh, would the kit you’re using be beneficial for bourbon notes?
Please please please try “Bucky” buckfast tonic wine 😂
how much for the kit?
😂 I love the Sommelier grift.
