On Wells last night, all I can say is that I normally hate bat flips and home run trots. But that 3 run bomb looked like it felt good and he needed it.
I don't normally like bat flips either but I agree, that one I liked!
Shame that boone platooned him with Trevino. It took for Trevino to get hurt for them to play him everyday.

I have high hopes for Austin Wells and believe he will become a constant .265+hitter, with 25-30 HR and 80+ RBI (when sanity hopefully prevails?) and he is the regular catcher for 120 games a year or so.

Spider-Man: No Way Home! Jake, that draft story about Austin Welles and other cool info like that is the reason I watch this channel. The Yankees have a great historical legacy of amazing talent at the "2" position from Bill Dickey to Yogi, Elston Howard, Thurman Munson and Sado. Even Butch Wynegar showed a lot of heart for us before NYC drove him crazy. After seeing how Welles has played in the second half I'm sure that he can join that company of greats and become a cornerstone of a young, hungry Yankees squad of winners for years to come with Jazz, Dominguez, Leadoff Gleyber, Ozzie Volpe, Judge and hopefully Soto as well.
Wells def should be in the discussion for ROY. I think hes one of , if not the best catcher in the AL. Just my 2 cents.

Yankees have a really exciting young core in wells, volpe, Dominguez and Gil with potentially more in the farm hopefully the Yankees take advantage
I know we should be thinking about this year...BUT.....we have built a very talented young lineup that I am thrilled with...Wells,Jazz,Dominguez,Volpe, you throw in Soto we have a very young outstanding core..even if we resigned Torres he is what 28? we need to get a young first baseman in the off season and 2B too..lets not forget Gil and Schmidt two young outstanding starters!!!!
It’s crazy the Yankees royals series was all hyped up to be a clash between 2 MVP favorites, but no one talked about a clash between 2 of the best catchers in baseball right now.

Choosing Wells over Realmuto is a bit tough but I wish Boone was more open minded with Wells earlier this year.

Wells is not the best hitting catcher in the game. Salvador Perez is hitting .270+ with 26 HRs…the guy is tried and true.
Nothing wrong with Wells at all, but let’s acknowledge how good Perez has been.
True, but defensively he isn’t close. In large part that’s why they have the same WAR even though Perez has played 42 more games.
I've always really liked Torres. I'm really glad to see him leave on a high note. I hope that helps him sign with a team with less pressure where he can really shine. I love the kid but he shouldn't be a Yankee. He's too heady to handle New York on a regular basis. Glad we get to see one last hot streak before he goes. Hopefully it lasts through October. There's a good chance it will.
We have internal options for next year and we can go and acquire a new infielder as well. If DJ rebuilds his swing, he can play 2nd base. At this point, I don't really want him playing 1st or 3rd anymore. 2nd is his natural position and he needs every edge he can get. If DJ can't figure it out, he should retire with our gratitude and Jazz can play 2nd. That's his natural position too. If Peraza gets it together, he's also an option. And of course we have Burdie as basically a lock for the infield if we can't get someone better. And then there's also off season acquisitions as well.
I think OBP and OPS are two of the most important stats in todays game, Wells is better in both and when you factor in defense then wells should absolutely win ROY, Cowser is a Mid Centerfielder if he played there everyday and wells is a well above average catcher

Responding to “we never got to find out who was going to be in the 9th”/“did Hamilton pitch because it was a 10-4 game?” - Tommy Kahnle was warming up when it was a 7-4 game going to the 9th and Boone said twice when asked both on the post game and also in his weekly interview with Jomboy and Jake that he liked Kahnle against the lefties at the bottom of the KC lineup, but he was going to go to Holmes for the top of the order if it got there.. went to Hamilton when it was a 10-4 game.

@@yankeesunloaded still can't just gloss over the fact he played more and has 150 more at bats with nearly same Batting average same ops... same obs.... Better obs+ and 20 homers which is most among rookies. Plays every outfield position top 10 fielding in outield. 1 error all season. Hits lefties and righties. Wells has 200 average against lefties.
I'm a Yankee fan that my team and Wells has potential to be big time but let see what Wells become but to say Mauer it a bit much Mauer is HOF who played big time offense and big time defense let see what Wells becomes.

He’s not due to manager incompetence but he is the best catcher on the team.
