Watching you spill the water sends me back to the very first video I ever watched of you, a few years ago where you knocked a glass jar of mayo on the floor and you said, 'Why is it always the mayo?' and Jesse said, 'Why is it always you?' 😂

pumpkins from UK and Ireland are too wet so they don't make the best pies. x a good pumpkin pie is quite nice x I think someone I know said if you're using the real pumpkin then to roast the pumpkin first xx
You can get tinned pumpkin in larger U.K supermarkets, down the world food aisle. My husband loves all things American so I have been making pumpkin pies for him since we got together.
Can not wait Grace. Your vlogs make me so happy. I'm a English girl who's lived in California for 60 years. You bring me a joyful look into the British life I love. Thank you.
Lots of Americans looove the marshmallow sweet potatoes. My family makes a savory sweet potato casserole with sour cream and cheddar cheese and garnished with green onion. My fave!
What does it taste like? I always thought it was quite strange and you couldn’t eat much of it since sweet potato is pretty heavy and filling. The savoury sweet potato casserole sounds delicious though, do you have a recipe maybe? Or specific sweet potatoes you use?
Traditional American Thanksgiving Turkey Stuffing Mashed Potatoes Gravy Cranberry Sauce Green Bean Casserole Sweet Potato Marshmallow Casserole Rolls And cold pumpkin pie made with canned pumpkin and served with spray can whip cream. The pie itself is traditionally made with evaporated milk. The most traditional version is Libby’s Pumpkin Pie. Every families thanksgiving is a little different but if I think everyone knows of the “traditional American thanksgiving” some forego it and their tradition is Chinese takeout which is also common.
As soon as you said pumpkin pie I thought “oh no, she’ll hate the texture” (from a texture-sensitive American haha). Not every household makes marshmallow sweet potato casserole, but it is VERY common nationwide 😬
Grace I love how you couldn’t help but put roast potatoes and peas in there 😂❤ Usually my family usually adds more green beans to the mix and my MIL subs the marshmallow topping with brown sugared pecans and desiccated coconut. The crunch is next level.
There are two different main styles of sweet potato casserole, the one you made and then the other is topped with a brown sugar/cinnamon/pecan crumbly topping. The sugar caramelizes a bit as it's cooking. This is the version my family always made and I feel (lol) is superior. It generally has more spices than the marshmallow version. Pumpkin pie recipes also vary quite a bit - some are a lot sweeter (more like a sweet potato pie) and then others are mildly sweet and have a lot of spice (my preference). Since you weren't a fan of the consistency, I don't think you would like any version though. :)
Your dinner looked so fun! We personally don't do the sweet potato marshmallow dish, but it is definitely a traditional dish and many families always include it in thanksgiving!
This was so fun to watch! Well done, Grace! I would happily dig in to that meal. :) Every family does it a bit different. My family usually has mashed potatoes, turkey, green bean casserole, rolls, stuffing, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, and olives. In the past we've had mac and cheese as well. Of course, pumpkin pie for dessert (or for my brothers, a plate of whipped cream with a spoonful of pumpkin pie). Come the end of the night, everyone's in pajamas and passed out on the couch from eating way too much. Next day leftovers are always nice, though! Take care and happy holidays! Looking forward to Vlogmas.
And lots and lots of homemade turkey gravy. My family boils the giblets, (neck, heart, etc included with a whole turkey) with onion, celery, and sage, thyme, salt, pepper to cook/reduce to a rich broth to add to the roux made from the turkey drippings (the bird is basted with butter as it cooks). Makes a beautiful, rich, brown gravy. Yum!. And I seem to recall Grace is a gravy kinda gal.
Well done, Grace, your first Thanksgiving. One day try the sweet potato with pecan and brown sugar topping. It is less sweet, and has many spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, clove. Also, I have never seen anyone put mustard on turkey--guess it was good! The green bean casserole is often much less soupy, with just a hint of sauce and topped with (canned) fried onions. Not my favourite. Yes, yeast rolls are served. I am Canadian, but we share many of the same dishes with the States. You did a fine job! And wow, what wonderful products Aromatherapy sent you! Outstanding!
Can't wait to see you set up the Christmas decorations! Christmas pj's making a comeback? And any Christmas markets or trips to London to see the festive setup and vibe? 😊
Sally's baking blog has a lovely pumpkin pie recipe... Canned pumpkin was the way to go! And i think that pie was a touch overcooked which may have lent to the unfavorable texture. It should be like a custard, creamy but firm? The wobble will firm up while cooling. Most people here in the States I know either have sweet potato casserole or candied yams. Essentially they are different versions of the same thing. I love making a sweet potato pie (roast the potatoes, not boil!) with a graham cracker crust...top it with a bit of marshmallows after its been cooked then toast it a bit to get them gooey. Its super yummy!❤❤❤❤❤
I use canned pumpkin to make our pies. My favorite pie is Pecan pie. So I usually make both. On these two pies we always use whipped cream for our topping. I also make a pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting that is usually a big hit.
My family makes the sweet potato topped with marshmallow monstrocity but I've always preferred my aunt's sweet potato and apple bake. She thinly slices peeled apples and sweet potato and mixes them with fall spices before layering them in a casserole dish. She tops this with lots of red wine caramelized onion. You can stop here OR you can add generous spoonfuls of goat cheese or some boursin cheese. Yum!
OMG, Grace, you said heat the pumpkin pie and I yelled, "No!". I love that you went to the trouble to prepare Thanksgiving dinner. It is a lot of work. Some take 2 days to get it all done. The pumpkin pie, my favorite is very often made using Libby brand of canned pumpkin. I prefer just the pumpkin puree. Most people I know use THE RECIPE ON THE CAN. It is a custard of eggs, evaporated milk (Carnation brand), sugar. Pumpkin pie spice. I have gotten lazy and no longer buy jars of the individual spices. I usually add a little more spice than the recipe calls for. The spice makes the pie.You only mentioned adding brown sugar? I suspect you made an English squash pie. You may not like it anywsy, it's just that I am so fond of you I want you to have the best. Love to you. Mr. Grack, and all your family!
The secret to Thanksgiving is recognizing that it's really an excuse to bring the whole family together for a meal and companionship. It's one of the lowest stress holidays of the year -- no gifts, no responsibilities, no fuss and bother. It looked like everyone had a good time and that is the point. Congratulations!
for me thanksgiving is so different being latina with puerto rican parents and family, we don't eat the usual traditional american thanksgiving dinners. the meat of preference is pernil, sometimes turkey then we have arroz con gandules. my mom makes sweet yams similar, to the sweet potato casserole and we usually have mac and cheese, some sort of pasta like lasagna or ziti, potato salad, and a few other foods i'm missing. its definitely quite different from the usual dinner yet its all i've ever known and is my usual thanksgiving.
Super fun video, Grace... thank you! I agree with you on the pumpkin pie & sweet potato casserole. Constructive criticism (from a place of love, of course!): a mic could probably help with the sound on the viewers end. Like when you're out and about vlogging using a low voice or in the kitchen where there is a heavier ambient noise from the appliances.
lol we have sweet potatoes with marshmellows in canada too for our thanksgiving (i moved from canada to texas and they also do it, and many other states) i love watching other countries try out thanksgiving foods.
Hi from sunny San Diego California. Yes most Americans use canned pumpkin. Sweet potato casserole is a very common dish for Thanksgiving, I think it’s just personal preference whether people have it or not. In my house we don’t like it so we don’t have it but it’s less a regional thing I’m very traditional.
Grace, you did will on your Thanksgiving meal. I couldn't quite figure out Jessie's Texas conversation. Jessie is correct that Sweet Potatoe Casserole is not typical liked by most America's.😖 I'm from Texas; born, raised and still reside there. Now, I'm African-American and I like Sweet Potatoe Pie (I like cold pies). The Cornbread Dressing and Gravy is my favorite. I call it dressing; because stuffing to me is made with stale bread. My family likes Candied Yams🍠 it's just sweet potatoes, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and butter (I like to squeeze ½ a orange🍊 in mine) (served warm). Also, some people's Biscuits are quite dense; but generally they're light and fluffy. I am so SO looking forward to all the Holidays upcoming vlogs. Happy Holidays!🎄🛍🦌🎁☃️❄🧣
Great first try! These aren't the things my family usually has, in the southern US. This year my cousin smoked a whole pig and served it as chopped barbecue. There were about 50 people and everyone brings something. The sides brought were creamed corn, green bean casserole, chicken and dressing, sweet potato casserole (with the RIGHT TOPPINGS not marshmallows but a crisp topping made with pecans oats cinnamon butter and brown sugar), Brunswick stew, pineapple casserole, Watergate salad, rolls, ham and pinto beans, broccoli salad, hush puppies, cornbread, macaroni and cheese, Dorito chicken casserole, cranberry relish (raw cranberries, fresh orange, apples, and pecans all minced together with some added sugar), cranberry sauce, potato salad, greens, mashed potatoes and I think that was it for mains. For desserts there was German chocolate cake, cheesecake, brownies, cookies, chocolate eclair dessert, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, apple pie, chocolate pecan pie, and pumpkin cream cake. It's a really impressive spread but it's a big family and some friends as well. My cousin who hosts has a farm so there's plenty of room to gather indoors and out, although it was a bit chilly this year!
sweet potato is def. an american thanksgiving dish but nuts are optional. We also do a sweet potato pie for "pudding". Its like a salty and sweet thing. Since we have so many nationalities here in america it def. depends on that too. Hispanics prefer a slow roasted pork, rice and pigeon peas a potato salad or macaroni salad and we also do a seafood salad. We also say Happy thanksgiving and we say a prayer before meals and optional going around and stating what we are thankful for.
Looks like a great Thanksgiving! Different people liking different dishes is kind of a classic part of the holiday. My husband and I both have our traditional Thanksgiving dish requirements and there's zero overlap. Even my sister, who grew up in the same household I did, has different Thanksgiving can't-miss dishes (and must-avoid) dishes. I have come to accept corn and mashed potatoes as parts of the Thanksgiving meal, that mac and cheese is a great dish to fill the gaps in the plates of picky eaters, and that you should always make at least two types of pie. They have come to accept that I WILL be making sweet potatoes, cornbread dressing is better than stuffing made with bread, and cranberry mousse is a once a year delicacy. (A fancy name for jello with sour cream, cranberry sauce, crushed pineapple, and pecans--don't knock it til you try it.) If you do this again next year, I wonder what you'd think of homemade cranberry sauce (super easy and delicious, Bon Appetit has a great recipe with cardamom pods and bay leaf), Southern style cornbread dressing, and pecan pie. Thanks for the video!
Sweet potato takes a little getting used to but is them awesome. You must also have mashed potato with them to balance it out. Well done. The string bean casserole is my fav but I like the french cut string beans with it.
Stuffing is the most popular for a lot of people. Ruth Chris recipe for Sweet Potato casserole is the best. Pumpkin pie needs lots of whipped cream... 😋
So interesting!! I’ve used it to make cookies, a sweet bread, and pumpkin pie. I’ve heard of it used in soups but I’ve never personally tried it. I presume it’s a lot like other squashes?
Søstrene Grene means "The Green Sisters" in Danish, its a Danish shop based one two fictional crafty sisters. We have one in Torshavn, in my country, The Faroe Islands and it's literally the best place to be at Christmas.
Hi! I lived with some Americans when I lived in Barcelona and we had a the yams marshmallow thing! I was so confused lol. The girl who made it was from Texas so I guess it’s like you were saying it the difference between parts of the country and how they celebrate xxx
sweet potato casserole is 100% a traditional American Thanksgiving dish. Obviously some individual families don't have it just out of preference (or desire to not have practically a dessert with dinner) but it's not regional - it's everywhere!
Thank you for trying something new. Pumpkin pie will set even if it's jiggly like yours. When you see too many cracks and the color on top is different. Put some foil for further cooking. If there are a lot of cracks your pie will dry out
You should post the recipes you followed. In the South of the USA, we call it Dressing, not Stuffing. The juice of the turkey is used in the dressing and there are many, many different ways of cooking dressing. In my family we have pecan pie, not pumpkin pie. Great video.
Not everyone in America eats sweet potato casserole. I'm in my 40's n I've Never had it. It's not a thing for our family. And your pumpkin pie needed spices. But everything looked really good. You made a Beautiful dinner that anyone could be proud and thankful for.
My friend is Canadian and we did Canadian thanks giving and we tried the weird sweet potato marshmallow dish and I just do not understand it at all. So maybe a northern American thing?
PS Talking With Docs has a video about the type of magnesium to take. (magnesium glycinate is the best absorbed). Good luck with the sleep stuff. Pretty sure a long walk (sorry, without a dog because that's too much stop and start) every day will help. Say hi to your bestie Honor. She rocks, too! (and NO chocolate after 1 pm bc of caffeine, at least until you get back to sleeping without waking). I know, I know, the horror!
Ironically, most of these recipes with processed ingredients are fairly modern, likely since the 1950s, and are also regional. I only really had green bean casserole and marshmallow on sweet potatoes when I visited friends' houses for the holidays. I think there is more flexibility in what Americans eat for holidays than what Brits expect for a roast dinner on Christmas dinner where roast potatoes or Yorkshire puddings have to be just so every year.
Not every sweet potato casserole has marshmallows. I personally do not like marshmallows. I make sweet potato casserole with pecan streusel topping on top. Yum!
Thanksgiving is ALLLLLL about the carbs. Only difference we did was we had mashed potatoes and also mac n cheese. Those are essentials as part of our "southern" meal. We also do pecan pie, but overall I would say this was a good attempt. You need some deviled eggs though! I will say I have NEVER had pumpkin pie with ice cream. Whipped cream only. I actually am not a fan of pumpkin pie myself. I think there are far better options to be fair so I don't blame you for not being entirely thrilled about it, lol.
Everyone does it different, I’m not a fan of sweet potato or green bean casserole. I prefer cornbread, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes as sides. And I also don’t like pumpkin pie either, so we usually do an apple crumble pie 💖.
You did a LOVELY job, Grace! I don't like the sweet potatoes either. People have their favorites and say "no thanks" to the things they don't like. I tank up on turkey, corn bread dressing (a southern thing that involves a lot of eggs and cornbread [savory, NOT sweet] and it's baked in the oven and comes out so heavenly moist with sage and onions), gravygravygravy, cranberry sauce (or cranberry fluff: cranberries and sauce, Cool Whip [non-dairy whipped topping that is heaven if you don't get it there], pineapple tidbits, and chopped pecans, made the day before and is heavenly as well), white trash green bean casserole (I call it that because it is the 1970s version with the Campbell's condensed soup), rolls, and the olives that my mother always made sure we had enough of because a jar of Spanish manzanilla olives don't last when I'm near. Any kind of pie but pecan and mincemeat are my faves but you have to have a sliver of pumpkin pie at least or you've missed out on the full Thanksgiving experience if you don't.
Watching you spill the water sends me back to the very first video I ever watched of you, a few years ago where you knocked a glass jar of mayo on the floor and you said, 'Why is it always the mayo?' and Jesse said, 'Why is it always you?' 😂
Hey, that was also my first Grack video!
Me too I think.
That was my first grackle video too! Why did RUclips decide to recommend that specific video to people 😅

I think most people use canned pumpkin to make pumpkin pies in the US and not an actual pumpkin.

So excited for your Vlogmas! You are the only RUclipsr I love watching ❤xxxx
It all looks so good! The green bean casserole looks like it doesn’t have enough beans in it.
Sweet potato casserole does have roots from the South, but it’s a thing consumed across the country. Biscuits are not traditional to thanksgiving. 😊
My southern family puts biscuits in the dressing.
@labsareperfect that sounds good! I’m in the PNW. We go with those yeasty rolls. I like to do sour dough in my stuffing. 😅
Southern sweet potato casserole doesn't have marshmallow topping though, it has pecan crunch topping.
I love you, your energy is awesome!!! You always make my day🥰
100% yes to the potential Christmas list video!!!

Love getting Mr. Gracks perspective! Sweet potato casserole is a crowd pleaser strangely enough, though it may depend on the family

Im happy they liked the yams lol but no baked mac and cheese hurt my heart thats a staple!
Don’t worry, Grace, pumpkin pie is almost always made with canned pumpkin and tastes better that way.
love this!
So interesting that she’s never had pumpkin as a dessert ingredient, and I’ve never had it any other way lol
Not just Grace, most of us here in the UK have never eaten Pumpkin as a dessert. I've only had it savoury.

Thank you for trying something new. Pumpkin pie will set even if it's jiggly like yours. When you see too many cracks and the color on top is different. Put some foil for further cooking. If there are a lot of cracks your pie will dry out
Martha Stewart has a great sweet potato recipe with pineapple, sweet potatoes and maple syrup with mini marshmallows on top at the end.
As a British person with many Americans in her life, yes the sweet potatoes and marshmallows are a country wide thing 😭
The aromatherapy brand you’re talking about is actually called Aromatherapy Associates
My friend is Canadian and we did Canadian thanks giving and we tried the weird sweet potato marshmallow dish and I just do not understand it at all. So maybe a northern American thing?
I've never heard of pumpkin pie warm :)
In France we hate that cups mesurement😂 Team Grams here
Where is the quilt on the sofa from its so prettyy!!
Dying to know, it's fab!! 🙈
Get that bag sis!!!! When you post sponsored content, it doesn’t bother me because I know it’s stuff you actually use/care about
I think most of us only have sweet potato casserole and green bean casserole at Thanksgiving
3rd here. Love a grackle monday
You should really take on more sponsorships Grace, its your job
Not every sweet potato casserole has marshmallows. I personally do not like marshmallows. I make sweet potato casserole with pecan streusel topping on top. Yum!
Sostrene Grene is coming to Tottenham Court Road on 1st Dec !!
Grace have you been homesick for your parents home since the wedding?
Grace, try listening to white noise at night! Since having our baby, we can’t sleep without it. It helps us and baby.
The Incredibles reference 👌🏼
Stuffing is the star of the show, and my hot take on pumpkin pie is if it is really so good why do you usually only eat it once a year 😜 Good job!
What is the new soup you are obsessed with?
What was the games place Grace mentioned?
Thanksgiving is ALLLLLL about the carbs. Only difference we did was we had mashed potatoes and also mac n cheese. Those are essentials as part of our "southern" meal. We also do pecan pie, but overall I would say this was a good attempt. You need some deviled eggs though! I will say I have NEVER had pumpkin pie with ice cream. Whipped cream only. I actually am not a fan of pumpkin pie myself. I think there are far better options to be fair so I don't blame you for not being entirely thrilled about it, lol.
Can you share the dinner roles recipe?
Everyone does it different, I’m not a fan of sweet potato or green bean casserole. I prefer cornbread, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes as sides. And I also don’t like pumpkin pie either, so we usually do an apple crumble pie 💖.
Everyone has sweat potato casserole also everyone typically uses canned pumpkin
Hey Grace do you have a PO Box?
What was the mustard for?
i think your kitched could do with warmer light bulbs
For what it's worth, I much prefer sweet potato pie and pecan pie over pumpkin pie and sweet potato casserole.
OHH GET A DACHSHUND ❤ WE HAVE 3 ❤
I have two dachshund’s as well but one of mine is very nippy. Be cautious if you have children in the family.
I love my doxies!!! But I wouldn’t get one again because I had one get IVDD overnight and it was tragic. Take care of your doxies backs!
You should apply to be on bake off for next year :)
❤
You need a dog, Grace! 🐶 ❤
You are a ray of sunshine ❤❤❤
Ear plugs for sleep. I was an insomniac before them
#nobiglights 🙌🏻🤣
