When I played this as a kid we had a bag of gummy bears on the desk with us. I now permanently, forever, associate the taste of gummy bears with both the ones on that day and this game. And that was back in 1986.

When I was kid and playing a cracked version of this on the c64, for the longest time I thought the helicopter sim at the beginning was the whole game. Took forever to figure out you had to land and walk around the enemy base. Such a complex game for it's time.

It was like a 2nd unofficial copy protection. You had the official copy protection, then you had the fact that a lot of these old games were impossible to figure out without the manual.
Although I swear I had a pirated copy that completely cut out the helicopter part and started you immediately at the base. Did anyone else experience that?

When I was a kid my Dad was hospitalised with a broken pelvis after a work accident. When he came home he had to have bed rest for much of the day. We loved this game but I couldn't do the flying parts. We got into a rhythm where I would go to school and he would do the flying part and leave the C64 on but be in bed when I got home. I'd do the spy parts and then leave the game on for him to do the flight section.
We beat the game this way without ever seeing each other. :)
After a few weeks he was well enough to get up again so we watched Thundercats together instead. :)

DA DEWD It just doesn't translate well as a console game. I always felt that games of this natuue, especially the flight sim parts tend to play out better on a personal computer system than on a console.

I do believe that the NES game was actually a port of the second game, which I never liked as much as the first anyway

Milo Pepenapolis As far as I know, this game was never made for the NES... I dunno maybe I'm wrong but I always tried to keep up to the latest games for practically every system there was out there whether it was for the Atari, Commodore. Nintendo, Apple, PC... etc. Sure were some great times having lived through that era and I sure as hell miss it. :(

Trying to play this at 7 years old without a manual was futile :)
