5 Cool & Classy Watches Under $50 - A Collection For The Price Of A Fashion Watch - Seiko Unboxing
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 23 июл 2024
- A few weeks ago you may remember I did an episode of my "affordable alternatives" series featuring the massively popular Michael Kors "Lexington" fashion watch that retails at staggering $275. Instead of giving it a negative review, today I share the results of a challenge. I try to see what kind of cool, classy, unique and stylish watches I can get for under $50 and see if I can build a mini collection for the price of one Michael Kors Lexington watch. In the process I review watches from Swatch, Seiko, Casio and Timex that in my opinion offer the best for this kind of budget for men and women. Then to end things off, in this episode I also unbox the world's smallest Seiko watch for a bit of extra fun.

I have that exact Seiko watch which was given to me by my parents in 1973 for my college graduation. It did not work for years despite numerous attempts to shake it and get the second hand to move. My father passed away in 2002. A few weeks after his death, I picked it up and it was ticking away although running very slow. No shaking it to get it going. It was just ticking. I had it tuned and cleaned by Seiko recently and it is now accurate to about 3 second per day. I believe my parents bought it at JC Penney's for $50. Just had to share this story.
Allen Sandusky thank you for sharing it sir
I understand the sentimental value of your watch, I keep a Zenith which was bought by my grandfather during the early sixties and after he passed away it was carried by my father for the rest of his life. I don't dare to carry everyday because for me it is too precious and I wouldn't want to damage or loose it in a bathroom (almost impossible to be robbed in Spain). I have got it serviced twice since then, just to keep it in perfect order. For each of those oilings and inspections I could have purchased a brand new watch, even automatic, but for me that Zenith is the most important watch in the world.
Allen Sandusky what does your father's death have to do with anything
blue dOt Exe highlights the coincidence of the watch suddenly beginning to operate.
Very cool story. I still wear my late Dad's 1963 Bulova 23 automatic.
Idk if this is a thing yet but I'm coining it just in case. "The Urban Gentry effect." The phonemenom when a certain watch becomes very desirable and scarce after being reviewed by TGV lol
After watching this video, I bought the Casio the same day, ha! I had also a few months ago pulled the trigger on buying a Seagull 1963 after watching his review. I'll bet Seiko owes several hundred SKX sales to the Urban Gentry Effect!
I count myself as one of the SKX TUG victim
No you mean the “urban gentry effect”- when any watch of any origin and any style ends up on a nato strap
I hope he doesn't do too many Invicta reviews, I need my big watches to stay cheap lol
Kevin Toft I'm afraid those words have already been copyright.. By me. You owe me: £1000 + Damages. 😏
TGV, you've done it again! The prices of these vintage Timex have shot up! $75
Which model is it exactly? I can not really find it.
seeing Michael korss gave me a heart attack
LOL Sorry about that ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
LOL I had a bypass and a stroke when I seen that! But still come back for the videos! My off shoot was Armani watch. That is as close to Micheal Kors as I will get or even Calvin Klein or.....
fugitive88888 I refuse to buy anything Michael Kors, I bought a belt and a wallet from them and they were both garbage and broke within 6 months. I'll never buy from them again.
I agree. I just go to Gap for odds and ends like that.
Anyone notice that isn't how four us done in roman numerals? Should be 5 minus 1. IV. Barfffff!
I think you should have a contest with Christian and Federico where you each have $50 to spend on a watch from eBay....see who buys the coolest watch!
THT IS A GENIUS IDEA!!!!!
Thank you James, I will suggest it to the chaps.
Best regards,
TGV
Something a bit different I thought!
+James Brand Awesome idea! I'll reserve $150 because I already know I'm going to want to buy all three haha
Timex Weekender.
Long time lurker, first time poster. Thoroughly enjoy your videos. Says my wife, "He's not as boring as the other watch videos you watch." So that's a great compliment too!
#1 new watch under $50 for me is my Vostok Amphibia. It's all I wore for weeks after I got it. Practically indestructible, thoroughly waterproof and quite handsome as well.
#2 is my Timex Weekender Chronograph in the the reverse panda color scheme. I paid $45 for it new, delivered from Amazon. true it's nearly impossible to read the time indoors with the black on clack hands, but outdoors it's quite legible, and supercool looking anywhere.
#3 are my HMT watches from India, in particular my favorite, the Jawan military pilot-style watch with black dial and big 3, 6, 9, 12 hand lettered in lume. And I regulated it to less than a minute of accuracy per day.
Thanks for the videos!
Fantastic video. Massive fan of your approach to watches, fun and humble. Really appreciate the vibe you're putting out there
Thank you so much, very much appreciated.

the clasp on the casio was a trip down memory lane! My first watch was like that...I was 10 years old in 1983
Very impressed with the quality of watches you got for the low prices. Well done Sir
Thank you my friend.
Best regards,
TGV

Thank you James, too kind.

New subscriber from Columbus, OH. Love the videos friend. Great work.
This might be my favorite video I have watched of yours. I wish I would have stumbled upon your channel before I started buying my collection. lol very well done good sir.
Fantastic video and such a wonderful point which shows people that it should be about fun and not what expensive brands you own
Excellent video, point well made!
Really enjoyed this video! Often times I get consumed with wanting the more expensive watches and don’t really consider the less expensive and fun options out there.
What a fun video! Thank you!
Great video TGV! I'm totally in love with that Timex.
Thank you Joseph, she's very easy to fall for ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
My goodness, that Timex is beautiful for the price you paid. I'm definitely going to search for one similar now.
Enjoying your videos, particularly on the more affordable offerings.
I wore that exact stainless steel Casio through Europe last year for two weeks without taking it off! I love that watch so much!
So glad to hear, thank you Dan. I hope you had a great time, I bet the watch will remind you of it.
Best regards,
TGV
The Casio AE1200 World Time Watch (affectionately dubbed the "Casio Royale" for its Bond-like appearance) is a great fun little watch that comes in under $30
Keep your hair this length or longer slicked back it looks pure class.
Thank you so much :D
Best regards,
TGV
Loved this vid...For some with limited money this video gives us hope.
I just love that Timex. So classy without being unnecessarily expensive. You can find great pieces even cheaper, if you go outside the well known brands. There are many nice swiss watches rebranded for a local wholesaler. In the 60's and 70's they had quite decent movements, often A. Schild. Also forgotten Swiss brands offer great finds. From my collection I could choose 5 very nice watches, Sigma, Leopard, Poljot, Molnija and Citizen for the grand total of 87 €.
And that's what I call fantastic, eye opening comment. Bless you for that. Thx.
Some great options, very interesting. Shows there are some bargains out there.
Loved it TGV! Top quality video as can always be expected from you! Keep it coming good sir :)
Thank you Aiden, much appreciated :)

TGV
The Urban Gentry why do they call you TGV?
I love the fact that although you have some very expensive watches, you are still happy to review and even buy the cheaper ones. You are a Gent indeed but definitely not a snob. Loving your videos :-)
Thank you so much, very kind of you to say. I just love watches! :D
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry yes, this is what I exactly see as well. Cheers for that.
He's one of the most humble gents I've seen
Very good choices to showcase! Thank you so much! I have a 1968 Marlin but it wasn't $50 or under, that's for sure!
Great video, love the blue dial Seiko.
I've got a huge love for those pillow/uso type cases.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Watching in 2017, good job TGV!
TGV, your videos are awesome, keep up the good work!
Thank you, too kind :D
Best regards,
TGV
Great video. Thanks.
Ive got a Timex Weekender and love it! its a great beater watch, its confortable, its durable, and fairly stylish
The Seiko is stunning! I think that the design from seventies Seiko watches is very beautiful and overall very original!
I love this one, it had a bit of everything, and really want to get into worn watches, thanks
I love the Wagner as the Intro music. Seigfried's Funeral March has been one of my favourite pieces of music for a long time!
excellent video TGV!!! couldn't stop laughing when i saw the smallest seiko ever made lol thanks!!! keep the good work, cheers!!!
Well done! Very interesting collection.
HAHA, the ending with the LT Ripley toy! Great job friend, happy i found your channel.
Thank you Nicolas, glad to have you aboard.
Best regards,
TGV
I really enjoyed this video it was very informative. I was quite surprised recently when looking out for a dive watch on Amazon UK and I came across one at less than £50 so looked into it further. It is a watch made by Casio and is the model MTD-1053D and is priced at just over £40. Unlike most dive watches it comes at around 40mm with a 22mm lug width but this watch also has a 200M water resistance which I found incredible at this price range. I incidently have not seen this in any jewellers here in the UK, but while on holiday in Malta early December found one on display in a shop in Valletta. I asked to see it and fell in love with it straight away and purchased it. It was priced at 63 Euros but as I purchased it on a Black Friday Deal I got it for 41 Euros. It comes in two different colour dials, either in black or in blue, I purchased the black dial but on return to the UK purchased the blue version from Amazon which came in at £43.99. It is a quartz movement and the lume is quite good. The bracelet is good quality and is brushed stainless steel and also polished edges. The bezel is fully functioning and rotates anti clockwise and is very solid when set. It has a screw in crown for the water resistance. The glass is scratch resistant mineral. The packaging is the standard blue cardboard which I have had with other Casio watches in my collection. The guarantee is for 2 years and the jewellers informed me the battery should last 2 to 3 years before changing. Definately a watch worth reviewing if you come across it. Casio are on a winner with this watch I think. Thanks again for your video on watches below $50.
This was such a nice video. Good job TGV, you really illustrated a point that is so important to the wristwatch community, because it drives us soo crazy to see non-enthusiasts buying fashion watches...
Keep up the great work!
cheers, Philipp
Thank you Philipp, will do! :D

TGV
Thoroughly enjoyed your latest video & i'm in love with your little Timex. You're not one to shirk a challenge lol.
Thank you Stephen, certainly not! ;-)

Another watch young guys might consider at under 50.00 is the Vostok Komandirske . It is manual wind and water resistant with a screw down crown . I purchased a few hundred of them directly from Russia and sold them all on eBay . Never had a single return .
The only problem I have with them is that they scratch easily, but other than that it is an amazing watch.
Do you think there is any watch like the sekio or timex shown under 40
Vostok is my daily watch. Gets more time than anything else.
@@NotenoughtTea you can very easily polish them tbh
@@Alciato3 The ones with the plastic crystal? I have one with glass and it's easy to take care of but the second with the plastic one... idk?
Good recommendations!
So glad you made this point for some of the younger guys.
Thank you always for your videos! I just bought THREE 1963 Timex Marlins after watching your videos. One question, all of my Timex have 17mm lug width and can't really find NATO band in that size. I currently have 18mm which seems too tight. Any advice?
My issue with those Casio watches is that these days they are chrome plated over copper plated plastic. I've had loads of Casios and the modern 'metal' ones look tatty in no time as the plating comes off. I have a lot of vintage ones but dont like wearing them too much because they mean too much to me. I really really wish Casio made retro digitals with high quality stainless cases and bracelets, I would easily pay £100+ for one.
Some really nice finds, the first Seiko and the Timex are beautiful. Great video as always
I felt the same as you but still had to get these beautiful vintage pieces they keep making like the a700, a158, and a168. Now looking at a world time and a G Shock square the gwm6510 solar, atomic clock etc.. it's a look alike from '85 but w/technology😍 -i just basically try to take care of them so they don't scratch up you know.
This video actually covers a point I've made to several people over the last few years. You can find better watches, and always more than one, than fashion house watches that are inexplicably expensive. Great job, sir. Looking forward to your next!
Thank you Serafin, I hope you keep spreading that message, people need to know! It pains me to think the amazing watches out they people simply don't know about.
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry I will continue to do my best! I wrote an article around this kind of subject a bit back. Maybe I'll share it somewhere down the line.
Always stop what im doing when i get a TGV video noticifacion. Greetings!
Thank you, very much appreciated :D

Best unboxing ever.
every review is very informative and well done.
Thank you so much Bill, that makes my day to hear that.
Best regards,

The small seiko , looked very art deco . I also loved the timex . I owned my first watch in 1963 .
GREAT VIDEO MY FRIEND absolutely love the Timex. I am at the moment trying to build myself a little sub collection of Rotary watches looking at vintage Swiss made and also some of the later day automatic and quartz peices a great somewhat forgotten brand
wooooow , once again what a video , it really put those fashion watches into perspective......... and your choices really makes sense , how to build a watch collection for 200$ what a great idea!!!!
thanks again for sharing
best regards
love your show! a show with beautifull blue dials would be great!
Love these entry level videos , shows watch collecting can be affordable
Thank you Raymond, very glad to hear.
Best regards,

Terrific video, TGV! I particularly liked that Timex self wind. I've been collecting these little mechanical gems the last couple of year and I'm completely hooked. By the way, I think the one you showed might actually be a Timex 31 movement. Just below the 6 o'clock position, the four numbers to the left show the Timex catalog number (4014, 4017, etc). The four to the right indicate the movement number and year, with the first digits signifying the movement and the last 2 digits the year (e.g. 3163 = 31 movement and 1963). I joined an online Timex aficionado group last year and one of the old timers explained it to me, so I'm paying it forward. Cheers!
I paused the video and went right to Ebay and brought the Casio.........cant wait till it arrives. I set an alert for the Seiko :-)
Thanks for videos
Massive thanks for your suggestions. Its amazing that all of those fantastic watches are still cheaper than MK which i only liked its hands.Cheers TGV!!!!!
TGV hope your doing well! I Haven't commented in a while but I am definately keeping up with your vids most certainly! Very nice video, as the lower end watches need some love as well :) Keep up the amazing work! I will post a photo for my next vintage piece I'm in the works of acquiring :)
haha bravo you nailed it with the Kors !
nice score on those pieces ....Im always on the look out
Thank you Guy :D
Happy hunting!
Best regards,
TGV
Can you recommend the best way to polish the crystal? And the case? Can we get scratches out? Was the 60s Seiko always that pristine? Thanks
Very interesting selection. I immediately liked the Timex. You don't often see applied minute markers, and I'd happily put up with needing to keep an eye on the accuracy of the movement with a dial like that and the heritage.
What a fantastic video
Few suggestions for a nice collection of watches each costing around $50: Casio G-Shock DW5600E ($45 on Amazon), Timex Digital Classic ($24 on amazon), vintage Favre Leuba Sea-King ($30 - $50 ebay and it's Swiss made), Seiko 5 snk ($55 on amazon), Vostok Komandirskie ($50 on amazon) and the list can go on infinitely. I've built my collection essentially exactly like this video and with many of the watches I've listed above. For those of us without the money to play the luxury game, you can still have a ton of fun and have some very significant timepieces.
Great choices, I think I will have to do a top ten next ;-)
Thank you for sharing that.
Best regards,
TGV
great video and nice collection for the price of the Michael Kors
Thank you :D
Best regards,
TGV
I did the Seiko shuffle at a club once. It didn't go well! Great video as usual!
Regards,
Nick
LOL Good one ;-)
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Great idea for a video, TGV. I've never been much of a G-Shock guy, but I'm thinking about getting the DW5600 for around the house use. Can't go wrong for about $45.
Definitely buying that Casio. For some reason it looks very attractive. A red NATO strap would look great with the silver tone, in my opinion. Good video TGV.
Looking fresh brother!!!
I'd say you definitely destroyed that challenge. I'm definitely enamored with those Seikos. Not so much with the Swatch but understand the playfulness it adds.
Thank you Mike, very kind.
Best regards,
TGV
more than welcome..I enjoy your content
The Timex is very nice. Very cool video:)
Hi TGV, I wanted to ask how did you manage to put that NATO on the f91w? I just can't due to the thickness of the strap!
Love from Italy.
Does anybody know the name of the braclet from the Seiko 11/8060? It's absolutely gorgeous.
I'm a fan of the old Time's. I love the art packs, especially depictions of the Annunciation.
Thank you sir! Volume 4 is on the way :D
Best regards,
TGV
For my beater regular wear watch I got a bargain, 25 quid at TK Maxx I got a fairfeild. Very minimal face, ditched the strap in place of a brown and black leather Nato and have yet to find a occasion it doesn't work in. An incredibly utilitarian timepiece.
Can you tell me where I can buy the timex marlin you see in this video? I can't find him. Thank you.
That blue Seiko at the beginning is basically the Vostok Amphibia 710 Ministry case. Even the face colour is exactly like one of the available colours, plus I have it on an orange nato.
Loving that timex.
Thank you :D
Best regards,
TGV
squale represent! Hoping you could include some comments towards dressing it up for the fall ;)
I just subscribed. I like these vid`s no nonsense, smart. I have a 1937 Bravington ATP. Beautiful. Just had it serviced, though the service took two years as the jeweler, whom I trust took almost two years outsourcing the parts. Classic Vintage. I have yet to see one elsewhere.
Thank you so much, welcome aboard!
Best regards,
TGV
I recently acquired a gold plated Tissot seastar for just £60, a testament to buying used vintage watches on eBay.
The Casio A158W is absolutely pure class!
Great video TGV, I have to agree I feel the same way about Michael kors watches lol they look good from afar but far from good haha. 👍🇮🇹
Cool Video TGV, the amount of times I've seen people waste there money on Bad Choices!! It goes to show that a bit of research can go along way.................. !!! Love the Ripley Figure!! Reminds me of my Early Teens watching Aliens over & over again!!! Still got the DVD box set! BMJ ENGLAND!
That trolling at the end :')
I really wish you could see what I got today- a stainless case, fully working, mens Omega Swiss quartz day date watch from the 70's. All original and for 30 dollars. I'm still so happy about that one.
Also scored a 1960s 'Continental' Swiss 21 jewel automatic with day date for under 50 dollars with the same shimmering silver face as your Timex.
And an 'Arlaska' 17 jewel Swiss automatic army watch, metallic blue face, cushion shaped case, (with subdials!!), for 35 dollars.
And an 'Envoy' 25 jewel Swiss watch with day date, stainless band + case and shimmery teal dial and white seconds marker ring for 40 dollars.
So I got four vintage Swiss watches for just under 150 dollars.
Maxx wow. From what site did you get them from? eBay? I never find deals like that
Love that vintage Timex, shame I have big wrists otherwise I would seek a few vintages pieces out. Thank you for sharing.RegardsConnell
Thanks for the video Tristano. I just bought a watch and a strap after watching it... 😂
Seiko 5, Orient Tri-star, Vostok Komandirskie
Recently sold both my Komandirskies, might look into buying a new one.
Great little watches for 25 euros, can't beat that.
Jeroenoman Have some more expensive watches, but the vostok komandirskie and its "brother" Amphibia just ticks some important boxes for me. Their robustness, simplicity, vintage looks and affordable price are astonishing
I have two Amphibia's myself, I have to admit I prefer them over my SKX haha.
Just like you said, the simplicity and robustness is what makes me love them so much.
I prefer the larger cases, like the ministry and the 090 cases.
I've got a ministry and an 090 amphibians and like them so much I modded one for my Dad. He's got a black scuba dude ministry with a Boris bezel on a thick shark mess. Seems very happy with it. Cost about £90 with mods.
Jeroenoman Exactly 😀 Cheers, mate !
Love the channel, look forward to it every other day!
@6ft and175 I do prefer larger watches!
Keep up the great work!
Thank you Rick,
I am so envious, so many amazing watches I simply cant wear as they are too big for me, enjoy them for me my friend!
Best regards,
TGV
Congrats, great video as always. I just bought a Seiko 5 and I think its very good watch. But my favorite will be any vintage Royce. Any opinión on that brand? Greetings from México.
Hi TGV, would you consider selling the black seiko? Thanks
Getting props for your watch pictures! 👍🏼
Thank you Jorge :D
Best regards,
TGV
I would add a Casio Duro. Just found your Channel. It's great! I have just started collecting and my first buy (in addition to my watch of 9 years) was a Casio Duro Diver £50
Urban gent u are indeed...An old soul with class your born with...love your channel...sooo informative and the rest...keep up the scintillating work...
