I love that jae finally said publicly that he wrote “howdy, my name’s Jae” because of AleXa. I remember her telling us about it during one of her IG lives a longgggg time ago, and have been waiting for him to confirm (for context: AleXa used to always say howdy and yeehaw as a joke because she’s from the midwest)
I really admire the topic jae and alexa chose for this podcast! Fast fashion and luxury brands are not talked about enough! We have been taught that wearing new/trendy clothes and brandnames are related to our status. However, that shouldn't be a necessary factor for living our lives or our sense of worth. And it definitely isn't a sustainable way to live, considering the damaging environmental and socioeconomic impacts.
It's also important to note that those clothes in the landfills can also end up being clothes people have donated. There is so much clothing donated in a year that if they don't get sold or collected in a certain time frame, the clothes end up being thrown away to make room for the new batch. So thrifting more can help reduce textile waste~
Fast fashion can be really really low quality... especially for women's clothing. They stain and tear quickly and often don't wear well through the day. They tend to be more trendy items that go out of fashion quickly... if your wardrobe is more basics than trendy things then it might not be as noticeable~
@@muzikk67 bruh. Once at target i saw the SAME pants. One cut for men, the other for women, but you can tell it was intended to be the same style. Not only did the woman's have one shallow pocket vs the men's 3 deep pockets, but the woman's also had had the drawstring on the outside vs the inside and was almost $5 more expensive. I was so maddd
@@Calida I've legit had the same 7 dollar male sweatpants for over 2 years. They're long and warm enough to go out in freezing weather, very deep pockets too. Whereas women's sweats are usually at least 20+ dollars, are not warm, often no pockets and don't last more than 6 months before they start falling apart. Same goes for sweaters and hoodies
AleXa, I can so relate to your phobia about using good things in case they get damaged or lost. I go even as far as not taking vitamins and cosmetics if they were expensive. End result by the time I get comfortable with using them they are out of date. Lesson learnt, especially with gifts from friends, they want to see you use and enjoy them because you are worth it and AleXa you are so worth it.
Jae: I heard that’s really bad for your back, bad soles. AleXa: I have no idea what the state of my back is anymore Jae: Is that something that happens when you dance AleXa: Probably….i got scoliosis 🤠 **cuts to the next topic**
Luxury brand items are only worth it if its sth classic that won't go out of style easily. But if you buy every new item they come up with and discard the older ones bc they're not trendy at the moment... it defeats the purpose. There are a lot of good quality brands that are not the typical ones they mentioned. And there are a lot of independent brands that make good quality, eco friendly, ethically produced things.
agreed! tbh imo the best is to buy from the not super mainstream but good quality brands ~$40-90 cuz they’re usually good quality but not hundreds of dollars

I admire Jae's marketing skill, seriously. Jae should be the Marketing Director of some big company or he should become a Brand Ambassador, I swear haha
I’m American. And here you can donate your prom/homecoming/bridesmaids dresses too. I gave some of mine to my college’s costume department for their theater program. And I gave the rest to my town’s Cinderella Day organization. A local church collects formal dresses, shoes, purses, jewelry for high school girls who want to go to prom but can’t afford it. It’s a really cool organization. Before I knew about this organization, in the past, I had trouble letting go of all those dresses (because I spent so much money on them). But knowing that someone else could use it, I felt joy paying it forward and letting the dresses go.
If you ask is designer brands worth it? It depends what brand you buy from, if it stay to the brand history and value, if it is serving good looks, stay to your aesthetic and it is produce ethically and not stepping over other culture. If those are met then it is worth it.
Omg I love alexa so much i want to be freinds with her!! We need a podcast of her talking about all her theater and anime stuff bc saaame girl!! I feel like we a have lot in common and I want to hear it all!!! 😁❤
i think the reason why some high brand items last longer is because people tend to unconsciously take care of those items more than a cheap product since they are a brand name item.
Also there is a lot of slavery in fast fashion so make sure you check for a transparency statement about paying fair wages and visiting their manufacturing factories (safe work environments) before you buy from a brand. I buy most of my clothes from thrift stores- better for the environment and not directly giving money to enable slavery. Also Jae and AleXa's chemistry is a whole mood. I'm here for the DnD collab

i've had the same experience with adidas. sole of shoe starts coming off! like, what? too expensive to do that and haven't even been worn that much.....that's how i became skeptical of higher end stuff.
You're not alone, Alexa and Diane. Me and my sisters also still have our prom dresses with us and we wore it also in some weddings we attended. We think it'll be a waste to throw those away when we can still wear it to future occasions.
Keep in mind that donating your clothes is no insurance that they will not eventually end up in landfills! While some companies sell a large part of the donated clothes to third parties (e.g. H&M) instead of recycling them, others may sell the clothes that they cannot sell (bc they're worn out, damaged, won't sell) to third parties as well or directly throw them away... Most of these third parties then sell these clothes in huge amounts to third world countries where they often still end up in landfills. Just think, people in third world countries also prefer for example a Nike shirt over your old H&M one... Just a reminder ;)
18:10 The 75 lbs of textile waste per person is because when companies make clothing, most throw away the cloth scraps. So even if you personally don't throw away any clothing or other textiles, if you wear new clothes, you are contributing to the waste. Most textile waste comes from the companies, they just distributed among the population to give you a better understanding of how much waste that is.
The most important thing to remember is that most clothes that end up in landfills aren't from consumers, they're from the companies. Especially in the countries where clothers are produced. I think there's definitely an argument to make about luxury brand goods lasting longer. But I'd see other kids in high school with Gucci slides and mini bags and stuff and same with college too .
I'm actually someone who's not into brands. Why to buy an expensive piece while you can buy it cheaper. Spending money on clothes, bags...etc isn't my thing. I'd love to be surrounded by pens, books, papers... Brands won't define you...
Donate those prom dresses! I went to a low-income school that always had events where low-income students could get free prom outfits, including shoes and accessories

hi guys, correct me if im wrong but what jae said in 0:49 was about Wonpil saying that wisdom words/sentence back in the days. But here he said 'kneecap'? Just wondering😅so perhaps you guys can enlighten me, thanks!
Designer brands are worth it with a caveat. Like I could buy some cheap boots or some designer high end boots and the designer boots can last for 10+ years or the cheaper one I'd have to replace every year or so depending on how it's made.
alsoon the topic of prom dresses, i bought my outfit from a lolita brand, so ive worn all the different pieces (blouse, dress, accessories, boots) many times since then? cause i knew my sisters was just sitting in a bag somewhere, so i would rather get something i can reuse a lot

I really loooveeee Jae's voice T . T
Love the way Jae's hair looks but the two freaking strands over his eyes 👀 made me kind of anxious
JAE YOU PLAY D&D?!?! You are a real treasure 🥺
I still have all my homecoming winter formal and all three prom dresses went sophomore year with my friend who was a junior at the time
hi guys, correct me if im wrong but what jae said in 0:49 was about Wonpil saying that wisdom words/sentence back in the days.
AleXa playing with streamers and Jae?? Im down
Alexa gurl your expressions are so cuteeee~~😂
Interesting that i received my first from friends order today. 😁👍🏻 we gotchu, Jae
