Technically, creatively, melodically, Alex is among the best rock guitarists extant and the perfect compliment to his equally adept, iconic mates. Together they form perhaps the finest three man band in the rock canon.
He prefers Limelight - incidentally also a composite of several ideas when recording but absolutely reproduced live with, if anything, more feeling inspired by the live audience.
As a lifelong Rush fan who has seen them 105 times live I was extremely offended the first time I read an author saying that Alex Lifson is a sloppy picker but then after taking a few breaths and giving it some thought and being a joke of a guitar player myself who knows virtually nothing it dawned on me that they were 100% correct. It doesn't change anything regarding his place in music history. The fact of the matter is that even though I had the license plate bearing his name in four different states over my lifetime he is certainly a top tier guitar player probably not really one of the absolute best but when it comes to writing he's on Mount Rushmore.
Easily one of the greatest solos ever written
You know when you created a great solo when the crowd consistently cheers it after its done. Lifeson rules.

Best band ever ,regardless of the number of members
It was a composite solo when recorded, and those are always the hardest to reproduce live
I love this. One of my favorites from Alex.

When a great instrumentalist knows how to be a great musician.
This was always one of my fave Alex solos ever , even since i first heard it but it always sounds better on the LP version.
Who says he can't shred!
He can’t shred like evh or Yngwie, but he can still shred like a BEAST when he wants to, and when he does, it’s always awesome
Alex plays with more touch and feel than ANYONE Page and Hendrix included
@@RichAFroschauerJr-jk9nl yeah, he’s also one of the best people at what I would call ‘expressive shredding’ if that makes any sense
