      About eggs for breakfast, actually many people eat, but not as much as in the US. About spending 4 hours in a restaurant, I don't think it's that long, but about 3 hours is quite possible, yes, for weekend meals, or friday nights. And a big difference that I haven't seen any North American talk about is our daily food system. In general: between 6:30 and 8:00 (depending on each person's schedule) a breakfast with fruit, bread or even eggs. Noon is lunch, and here it's real lunch, with salad, rice, beans and meat, and there may be other things, but that's the basics. And we have many restaurants with per-kilo buffets or all-you-can-eat buffets, or both options in the same restaurant. Then a snack upon returning from work, or during work (around 4pm) and finally dinner. Dinner varies a lot. Some people have dinner earlier (at 7pm) others have dinner at 8pm, 9pm or even 10pm, and the type of dinner also varies, some just eat a sandwich, others prefer a meal with rice, beans, meat...

    The "hello" and "goodbye" thing I think someone explained you wrong. It's not to everyone at the party, it's to everyone on your group, like the friends of your friends who are there, even though you don't know them. It's a way to be sympathetic and get to know other people. Imagine there's me, my friend, his boyfriend and three other people. It's nice to greet them all so I don't arrive or leave like a rude person. But that's not a rule, I guess. I've seen people complain about this, like "Oh, I hate when people only greet the ones they know". But, if you're at a party with like 15 people, it's also nice to talk to them. But not 50, 100 or 200 lol

    I’m so incredibly blessed to be Brazilian and have this splendid culture rooted in me. I’ve been living in the US for 10 years, I’m fluent, I’ve assimilated tremendously, I’m married to an American, BUT NOTHING BEATS the friendliness and hospitality of Brazil. Americans are unbelievable superficial, money/career oriented, and short-tempered. The US is more of a workplace and Brazil where I enjoy life to the fullest!

    • @davidelliott1594
      @davidelliott1594 7 месяцев назад +5

      And yet, despite all the negative things you have said about Americans, you have lived and prospered in the United States for the past 10 years and not Brazil, and are married to an American woman and not a Brazilian woman.
      Interesting.
      People relocate and assimilate into other places and countries because they find something undesirable about where they originally come from and something desirable about the place they migrate to, especially if they stay there for a decade and start a family with someone from the place they moved to. Talking badly about a place and people you benefit from is just poor manners.
      I would also mention it is the work culture and work mentality of the US that made its economy so innovative and advanced and given people such as yourself and many millions of others opportunities to thrive economically within its borders.

    3. Just explaining a bit further, there is a tipping culture in Brazil, but since it's optional we tip whether we like the service, or if we're just feeling generous at the time. Just like many other countries
    Some people go further and feel a little offended if you try to tip them, it's just a sign of humbleness

    • @karens6559
      @karens6559 Год назад +9

      I was going to say that. For example, in the gas station if the attendant wash your windows or calibrate your car’s tyres, than it’s usual to tip them. There’s also the case where the tip is already calculated in the check in restaurants for example. And you just opt to pay it or not (in this case, if the service was bad).

    • @hgilbert
      @hgilbert 20 дней назад

      some waiters expect you to tip, you can see it in their eyes, so basically I give a larger banknote and tell them "keep the change" and their eyes light up and they smile "hey, thank you!" . also i am not exactly sure how it works but i thought all restaurants will add a service charge (like 5%? 10%?) on top of your bill, and that would be your tip. I've tipped taxi drivers, barbers, waiters nobody ever felt embarrassed or said "no", but it's a "keep the change" sort of thing, as I often use / prefer cash, and that goes down well.

    haha totally true! brazilians are almost always late! and this is not a bad thing per se... i mean it's not that it's something you should definitly do if you're a brazilian or if you're in Brazil as a foreigner but.. that's a custom in Brazil hahah
    another thing brazilians do is call literatlly ANYONE as if they were ''lifelong'' friends haha , here you can call strangers in so many differents ways,like : ei amigão, eai campeão, fala fera, eai gente boa, etc.... 🤣
    there's so many ways brazilians greet each other, i think that's why some foreigners say portuguese is hard to learn hahah it blows anybody's mind!
    and about not eating eggs for breakfast it's true, in Brazil the most famous cliché food for breakfast is bread and butter( or margarina an imitation butter ) and ''pingado'' a mix of milk and coffee 😋

    In the US there are much fewer specialized stores than in Brazil or Europe and even East Asia and most other places because most cities are have large tracts o residential exclusive zones that do not allow for retailing and they necessitate that one needs to take a car to various shopping centres that have any number of large food and grocery stores that sell everything in one establishment. In Brazil, most blocks or blocks nearby to the block that one lives, whether that be within a favela or luxury high rise apartment building complexes will have a variety of different retailing establishments, including bakeries, fromageries, butchers' shops, and ones that sell fresh fruits and vegetables - the latter mostly in supermarkets or neighbourhood mini-markets.

    Dude, I loved your video, I found myself bursting in laughter in some of the things you said, "Ei, Campeão" 😅😅😅😅. But I "changed" some of my typical Brazilian behaviors for one reason or another (one of the reasons being an exchange student in Michigan when I was 16).
    1) Even knowing I will have to wait probably an hour for my friends who agreed to meet me at 7 p.m. I still arrive at 7 p.m., never late.
    2) I eat eggs for breakfast (omelete or scrambled). Had eggs this morning. I find it a better alternative to bread (carbohydrates) as I'm trying not to inflate like a balloon.
    3) I don't like saying hello or goodbye to everyone in a party. I usually say goodbye to the host and leave just like that. We coined a term for that, "saída à francesa".
    Next Friday (August/11) some friends of a friend of mine who lives in NYC are coming to Brazil and I'm going to welcome them and serve them as a guide (because I want to). I'm going to send them a link to your video, it will be useful for them.

    You forgot to mention that even though it's not a first-world country, there's free healthcare. Even the health insurance plans are infinitely cheaper than in the US. Emergency care, especially, is remarkable. Anyone, be it a beggar or a wealthy person, is treated the same way and with the best quality. My martial arts instructor once cut his finger off with a chainsaw. They took him to the emergency room, reattached the finger, and now he's completely fine, all for free. Treatment for diabetes, cancer, organ transplants, and all other treatments that you have to mortgage your house to pay for, are free! Because our constitution prioritizes the lives of its citizens. It's a lesson the US should learn, instead of investing solely in wars.

    About the nature topic. Brazil is blessed to have very fertil land. It's very easy to grow plants or even a tree here, but there are also laws in place to keep it that way. Years ago, our green percentage was dropping in large city, so a law was put in place to forbid people from cutting down a tree, even if it was inside their own properties. Now the only ways to cut a tree is with government permission or illegally, risking having to pay thousands if caught. And many neighbors are will to report you.

    I've been to the USA many times and they also have amazing nature, fantastic natural parks. Yosemite, Yellowstone, Arches, Bryce canyon... sequoia national park, etc. Lots of different things and well preserved.
    In Brazil, we should protect better our beautiful nature.
    I also found Americans very polite. But, yeah, not a warm people with strangers, at least in my experience.
    And I don't like the tipping in the USA, because its exaggerated in many places, where they propose tips of 20, or 25% on top of the bill. I think 10 to 15% would be more appropriated. Why not just add this to the price on the menu, so as to avoid surprises (one goes planing on a tip of 10 to 15%, but is asked to tip 25%).
    I always tip at restaurants and bars in Brazil: 10%. Except when it's written on the receipt that the service is included.

    I loved your video! Please allow me to comment:
    1 - Not sure which state you visited. But we are not touchy in Rio. There's a lot of violence and we see this as disrespectful. Also, the weather is hot, and we don't want to touch your sweat.
    2 - No tipping is real. We don't have much of a food scene. We eat "comida de verdade", at home. And yes, we are awful guests at restaurants.
    3 - We don't eat fried eggs in the afternoon, LOL. We eat eggs at lunch. We eat French bread and coffee in the afternoon.
    4 - We don't eat food w our hands because the Portuguese aristocracy thought Brazil was unsanitary, since the weather is hot/wet. Also, because of the number of "manguezais" in Rio. They thought it was disgusting. And the rest of Brazil just copies everything Rio does, so...
    5 - Yes, there're many street dogs in the small cities, we call them "Caramelo" (caramel).

    Oh, you tip. But it's always 10%. You don't eat pizza with your hands unless you bought it on the streets. You never eat burgers with silverware. You can have places in Brazil with no nature -- try Zona Oeste of Rio. You don't have to say bye to all people in a party before leaving but you do have to say bye to all of your group, it does not have to be individually but you do have to say "tchau" to everyone you know well. Yes, we don't eat eggs in the morning -- because breakfast is supposed to be a fast meal. Lunch is the one that is supposed to be long. Also, I live in Florida and there is green everywhere here -- much more than in Rio.

    I don't always greet everyone. It's OK to just leave or throw a collective hi. BUT you will miss the chance to be remembered and mingle. Brazilians like to make friends, in fact we are always friends with strangers unless they do some shit and we become enemies. It's absolutely routine to be on the street, waiting for the green light, and someone makes a joke about something that is happening and everyone laughs together. So if you are not in a hurry (and you shouldn't because we don't care about punctuality), it is worth to take a spin and shake hands with everyone. You will earn social score, which is almost a commoditie in Brazil. Good connections can make you rich down there.

    the tax culture is actualy a strenght of the us culture. knowing how much you guys pay on taxes of the products helps making their lower. In brazil the icms, the tax of products is the more important tax of the contry and this is realy bad since is a taxes that harms more the poor, not like a income tax

    7:30pm? hahahah in the best cases we showed up an hour later and would party until close to dawn(your brazilian friends want that, if you’re a man ). But in my case, out of respect, I would show up at the right time if I were meeting foreigners hahaha
    Greetings from Brazil🤙🏻

    Great video, about the eating habit of not doing it with our hands… It’s not that we need a knife and fork for everything, but Brazilians are a bit obsessed with higiene regarding food. We NEVER EVER eat hamburgers with our hands touching the bread. We need napkins between our hand and the food, you know? I cringe when I go to the US and see people eating burgers with their dirty hands touching the sandwich all over. 😣

    Hello, I loved your experience with us, Brazilians and Brazil. Where did you go? About the party, you can skip the goodbyes, not the hello and the kiss when you enter the party. I'm from São Paulo, there's only one Kiss, in Rio there are 2 Kisses. I've never been to Bahia, but I believe they kiss 3 times when greeting each other. I get irritated kissing everyone to say hello, I don't kiss, just some close friends.
