  • This is the first in a series of videos where I go over games I'm passionate about that have serious flaws that are causing, or will cause, damage to it.
In this first episode, I go over the history of the OPTCG metagame and how it has slowly crept higher and higher until blowing out the glass ceiling.
If you would like to see more of this or have any feedback, let me know in the comments, and thank you for watching! Don't forget to like the video and subscribe! I hope to have another video out in the next few weeks!
(Also I'm so sorry for the weird editing, I'm learning video editing by making these, so you'll see the progression as time goes on. lol)

    Fun retrospective, good job.
I've been going to locals irregularly since OP04 and there have been periods where I've had to take a break. OP05 was the worst. After one night of 5 back-to-back Sakazuki's I had to nope out for a while.
What has helped me retain an interest in the game is having buddies who enjoy playing off-meta decks just for fun. It means I can play cheap, fun pet decks with them (I am a Kuro enjoyer) and avoid the burnout of playing the same 5 decks over and over again at locals or on the sim.

The proplem is you cannot play fun deck against meta because you will auto lose

True. I just wanna play Vegapunk but the deck STRUGGLES

There is a possibility that they could just do a yu gi oh and constantly increase the power creep every set until there is no turning back

EXACTLY! I'm a former Yu-Gi-Oh player, started at the beginning, can never go back to it now lol

Good video, appeals to both sides of a struggle while still addressing the issues directly.

The card game is way cheaper now. Don't think it's too expensive at the current point.
Black Mariah is for sure a strong card, but It's definitely getting hit on the ban/revision list coming up.
I do however, think the view on blackbeard is a bit premature. The set isn't even out in Japan yet, so maybe wait till then before we think it power creeps that bad.
If the game is in a state that makes it hard for you to enjoy play decks that you enjoy and ask others to not build only meta decks. If your friends build off meta fun decks maybe it can revive your love for the game at a casual level.
Take some time off competitive regionals if you do those.
Good video, though it's always nice to see what the card game does for others as well.

100% agree! I hyperbolized some of it, of course, but I definitely feel like addressing the risks of the way it's going ahead of time is better than waiting for the aftermath. Hopefully Maria gets hit and not Law, but we'll see how Bandai handles it.
      Thanks for the input!

Too many sets too fast. Not enough playtesting. Bandai always fails long term with their tcgs

Creating a good balanced tcg cam be very hard it seems. You see so many crash and burn.
I do know as a Pokemon TCG player, rotation can be a bummer but it does kill some op decks over time. Keeping deck building something fresh and fun.

sakazuki isn't comparable to Blackbeard. he was a problem because of general support. the card you pointed out for Blackbeard is leader-locked which means it can't really be power creep imo. the early op09 winning decks support this.

Good point! Really it boils down to the overall effect a card, or deck, can have on the game. Sakazuki started to hurt the health of the game, and Blackbeard very much has the possibility to do the same. Nobody can know the future, but we can make predictions and warnings.
