      Hello Shadowz. I like that question. I guess for me it starts with being particularly mindful of a characters' personality during character creation. Alignments, quirks, and personality traits become key in determining what decisions they are going to make during the story.
      When using random tables, I want to work my way through the possibilities, so I mark the possibilities as I roll them. I may change dices or move up or down the table if I get previously rolled result.
      Hmmm... I another little thing I do at times is mix and match games. Soon I'm going to be mixing Teenagers from Outer Space With Toon, and Ninja Highschool using Savage Worlds game mechanics. 😁

    We used to play one of these during our AD&D games in the background, particularly the combat parts where it has spell sounds and swords clashing. Was great ambiance. Also, I just scored the "Dungeons & Dragons Official Roleplaying Soundtrack: Midnight Syndicate" from my local thrift shop. :)

    Hey there friends. Here's a late addition to the video, but an important one. On the Vaults of Pandius website, there is a complete transcript of the Audio CD!!! Very helpful when running this module if you don't want to use the CD (Which I highly recommend). Here's the link:

    I think this could be a good campaign. Run this for first lvl characters but have the vampire and his new mistress survive, the players escape to fight another day, leading a local resistance to the vampire's tyranny. hey have to build up enough lvl to really challenge him etc. IDK just spit balling here.

      Drives me CRAZY when they have the voice actors speak for the player characters. It seems OBVIOUS to me that you should never do that. Having NPCs talk is GREAt, and the background and all that. If that was the case, this would have scored higher to be sure.

    Where it mentions track 49 in the module, it even states that the PCs are unarmed unless they mention that they run back to the guest room to get their weapons. Level one, no weapons initially, assassins, thugs and a vampire? Yea. That's pretty steep. Plus a good portion of the people in the manor get massacred overnight? Can you imagine this as your first adventure?

    • @captcorajus
      @captcorajus  9 месяцев назад +1

      Probably not as a 'first adventure' for a group of newbies. But for experienced players this module is phenomenal. Its a bit of a challenge for the DM. The DM NEEDS to be experienced to bring this off. But I ran this for my players and they LOVED it.
      The key here, if you can manage it, is to HIDE the vampire angle of the adventure for as long as possible. Play around with the trope of a vampire, where they are like, "oh, that's just a distraction" .. because you have the plot of Lady Constantina/ Lord Stroloca and Lore Orousco, plotting the assasination of Lord Vandevic, There's a LOT going on.
      Its a slow burn, but when I ran it, the players thought it was amazing.

    Can you say castle, Raven loft vives? I know you can.
    For someone who hated Vecna lives I was surprised to see you enjoy this module. It is absurd to think that low level players can deal with a vampire.

    • @captcorajus
      @captcorajus  Год назад

      Did you make it to 55:54? My summation of the module completely agrees with that assessment. I listed the many reasons I like this module, but suggested that is be presented to a higher level group, and with that in mind its hardly absurd... but ass written it has issues.. thus my 11 rating.

    I have one audio CD module - I forget which - but remember it being painful to use.
    These werent horrible concepts but IMHO this was all not suitable for D&D. Especially not 1E.
    Even if the adventure is engaging and the players are getting pulled in, essentially pausing the table so that you can play a track just kills momentum.

    • @captcorajus
      @captcorajus  Год назад

      I like music at the table, and it could have been cool if they did things like spell effects and themed music for encounters... they definitely missed the boat.

  • @MoonMoverGaming
    @MoonMoverGaming Год назад +2

    I really think you were too kind to this module. The audio CD which is its *reason d'arte* is a hindrance rather than a help, and the central mystery is insultingly obvious (even if a DM follows all your suggestions with regards to keeping the players from knowing there's a vampire ahead of time, they're still going to know there's a vampire ahead of time because they're hanging out with nobles in Fantasy Eastern Europe so *what else* could *possibly happen*?)
    There are just far, far too many better-put-together modules out there for $5 or less nowadays.

    • @captcorajus
      @captcorajus  Год назад

      Not in the Karamekos setting. It’s Eastern European. Also, the number of subplots are interesting. I rate a module on how much fun I think it will be to run.
