Hey Coach. I plan on implementing the 30 stack next year. I will also go with 5 dbs and I plan on using the rip/Liz stuff. The problem is i have to simplify it due to the amount of time I can spend with my players. Do you have any suggestions? I also plan to use your palms concept and an Tampa 2 with all three safeties.
Coach Mac! Great video. at the 26:00 you talk about the backside safety cutting the #4 if he goes to the trips side. By any chance, would you recommend just rolling the coverage? By doing that the Backside/Right Safety becomes your deep middle. Looking forward to your feedback.
NatarisX I've worked with both defenses and they're both good my only problem with the 3-3-5 was we rarely could find a NT who could command multiple blockers for our second level defenders to get a good run fit. So we used the 4-2-5 as our base D and kept our 3-3-5 for pass rushing personnel.
Coach Mac, I remember you mentioned that you were considering the merits of being just a cover 3, Man free and zero team vs playing the split field coverage. What was your determining factor in continuing the split field coverage? I ask because I've had pretty good success being cover 3 and man, but I do like some of the split field stuff and have been considering dabbling or jumping head first in it, but keep falling back to what I know. Good job on the videos.
Coach is there any video on trips or Pro to the boundary. When you call strength on the hash is it always wide side and if so what is the adjustment in 3-3-5 with trips or pro to the boundary.
3-3, 5-3, 3-5 are all the same concept, anyways. It's high school football. I don't think anybody has specialized "nickel" players that they sub onto the field for a 3-3-5 or 4-2-5 set. Play your best 11.
Ironmonk036 you can use 5 backers but like he said they can't really do as much in coverage unless you have some really athletic guys there. I was not thinking about that when I asked him to do the video.
I got what you are saying now, we play 3-3-5 the question was asked about the 3-5-3 which technically we don't play personnel wise but the structure is similar

Great videos Coach Mac! I like the 3-3-5 and the 4-2-5! Which one would you prefer as the base defense from the two?
425 is easier to coach but 3-3 presents more problems for offense's

Multiple vs various formations

I dont set my FS to the field so i can call strength to boundary if needed
How do you play the goal line defense? How many lineman, linebackers, defensive backs?
Usually some form of 4-4 or 5-4 personnel group
Are you using 5 linebackers to make it a true 3-5-3?
