Bok fan living in Auckland here. I am starting to enjoy this as my only level headed, fair minded respectful to other international teams Kiwi rugby show. That other one with JK is a bit of a joke really, Mils and Kirstie are the only ones with any rugby knowledge. I am loving Taylor (Beast), Lorax and Tamati. Please keep up the balanced and truthful rugby reporting guys. All countries and their rugby teams are different in their approach - this is what makes it a great game and why I love it when ABs, England, Boks, Fiji and Ireland play each other. They are all unique. Love your work.

At the RWC quarter final in Paris last year, the Irish fans were super confident (borderline cocky). Aa a seasoned springbok fan, I tried to warn the Irish fans…you don’t simply just beat the ABs because your team is in form and you think ABs are not. Your team ALWAYS needs to be at 100%, with all cilinders firing, all players contributing, with all the emotions behind you. The ABs have broken our hearts too many times at the death for me to EVER be comfortable going into a Boks vs. ABs game. The Irish tend to forget that (only true rivals of the ABs know this;-)

A big Springbok fan here. To the build of the last weekend, I said only two Northern Hemisphere teams were going to win. I thought it would be England and France. I am so glad I got the England one wrong because I think Australia is good for the rugby Championship. And no, NZ and Ireland are not a real rivalry; NZ has beaten Ireland 32 times, and Ireland won 5. How is that a rivalry? This rivalry is fun because we all know who the better team is... last week England walked up to the line while the AB's did the Haka and this week Ireland did it as well and both instances the AB's won....so moral of the story when the ABs do the Haka just stand there enjoy and safe your energy for the game like the Springboks do......

Discussions about Ireland being rusty or not is a bit like a dog chasing it’s own tail. It also has to do with the different season structures of the NH & SH countries.
Most of the Ireland team play together (for Leinster/Munster) in the URC etc so have combinations already, had played many times together in previous tests, had been together in camp for a few weeks including warm weather training in Portugal & had played together in the Six Nations & the July games. The NH Countries play their tests in regular ‘blocks’ as in it is generally the 5 games in the Six Nations, 2 games in the July Series & 3-4 games in the Autumn Internationals & then there may be the odd friendly/warm-up game thrown in. So Ireland gets breaks/rests between their various blocks of games but at least it is regular games.
The ABs on the other hand pretty much play all of their tests in 1 chunk being 2 games in the July series, 6 games in the Rugby Championship, 4-5 games in the Autumn Internationals with this year also playing Fiji in the US & Japan on the way over to Europe.
And that is when the discussions begin. Are the NH teams fresher or are the ABs getting tired towards the end of their season? Or are the SH teams more cohesive & the NH teams rusty? Did Ireland have the benefit of good preparation at their own base whereas the ABs were disadvantaged by only having a 6 day turn around including travel & moving hotels etc?
When Ireland beat the ABs in Chicago in 2016, were Ireland rusty then or were the Irish fired up & the ABs treated it more as a ‘stopover’ game & also being forced to play Kaino in the 2nd row because of a Locking crisis?
If/when World Rugby gets a Global Calendar arranged, I wonder if there will still be the argument about the climate/weather where the games are being played in is an issue, who the officials are etc. Time for another few drinks & a chat around the BBQ/Braai me thinks. The discussions could go on for eternity…

As a rugby fan, it would be great to see a ‘Champions of the Unions’ mini-tournament - pitting the winners of the Rugby Championship against the winners of the 6-Nations, Pacific Nations Cup, Rugby Championship of the Americas & Asian Rugby Championship.

The thing im worried about with the new blocking rule for competing for the ball is that you can manipulate the ref by just running into a player even if there was clear space. Also (and this happened on in the game) you can tackle the player in the air but because the penalty was before the tackle it doesnt count. Well at least thats what i saw happen to Pollard. I hope this was just bad reffing and not the norm.

The NH teams love celebrating the small things that aren't of importance and it disturbs their concentration to a point. The AB's and Springboks don't and that shows the level of maturity and substance from both teams. The drama of celebration from the North needs to stay in the north. We down in the South would rather continue on our trajectory and remain calm and mature.

There is no comparison between rugby in NZ and Ireland, Rugby is a way of life in NZ, but more or less a fringe sport in Ireland. NZ have been a major force in rugby for over a century, the belief that carries is a big hurdle for most teams to get over as Ireland found out in 2013, game 'won' with 30 seconds left. One point about Lowe getting the crowd involved, in Ireland the ordinary public cannot buy a ticket, they are distributed through rugby clubs and corporate entities, most fans feel this has a negative effect on the support from the crowd.

Does the ‘not straight’ lineout law apply in these tests, or was it just in the Rugby Championship?
This past weekend’s games showed the benefit of Super Rugby. When they need to, NZ, Oz and Fiji can throw the ball around and score tries quickly. The Northern teams don’t seem to be as natural at doing that. As Jip says “under pressure, you revert back to your most rehearsed skill set”.

I’ll admit I’m a DMac hater but the glazing for this performance needs to stop. Out of the 6 kicks he made out of 8 attempts only 1 was difficult, which was the 1 that fell off the tee. In his positional play he didn’t do anything that well. He made a few unforced errors such as knock ons and a forward pass. The pass he threw to Sititi in the lead up to the Will Jordan try was at his boot laces. He’s also a liability on defense.
