As a Christian, I have listened to metal most of my life. I started out with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Dream Theater, Ozzy and Black Sabbath. God has spoken to my heart through all of them. I didn't rebel against my faith or my parents growing up. If I listened to a band and it didn't feel right then I stopped listening to the band or a specific song. As a 47 year old man, I still love metal and progressive metal. There are great bands that are Christians and Christians in metal bands. Any of them will tell you Christ is Lord.

Years ago I was going through my dad's old vhs tapes and came across one of The Power Team and after that was a Bob Larson special on the dangers of metal music and for some reason Slayer was the focal point. It was quite hilarious to me
@@benjaminromanello3157 Slayer were very dangerous. They may not necessarily be serious satanists BUT they told a lot of lies and mocked Christ and Christianity in their lyrics. In their early days they read a lot from some "Satanist bible" too.I totally LOVE metal in different Genres. And it makes me all the more indignant when metal bands mischannel their God-given talents into glorifying satan and denouncing Jesus.
@@jonlockett9732 The only lies are the ones found in your Holy Book. The funny thing Christians never seem to get through their heads is that they are the only true Satanists. As in, the only people who actually believe in Satan as a real fucking entity. When metalheads "hail Satan" or do whatever other silly demonic metal thing, that's all it is to us: campy horror. Like a movie. The only fun comes from a) pissing people like you off who take the shit too seriously or b) using it as a metaphor for the real life demons (i.e. addiction, loneliness, oppression, free will, etc.) and overcoming them, which is why it is emotionally something a lot of us connect with. The same way blues guitarists often have such strong emotion from singing about their pain. Of course, in thrash and speed metal like Slayer, anger and rage is often the most common emotion expressed, and you can express that best by screaming at the "demons" you hate. It's a catch-all for whatever is evil in your life.
The deeper hypocrisy from the Church is how Heavy Metal ( as long as it's "Christian" ) is glorified, but go back to the 70's...80's? It was viewed as Devil Worship. The SOUND. Didn't matter if band members were Christians or not. So, in other words: Give some trend time...let some Christians saturate lyrics or the fad with "Jesus", then...suddenly it's fine! LoL. And in the meantime there will be those who "get it", but the majority of the Church will not. ( Which is also why debates on Bible verse interpretations have led to the multitude of denominations throughout time and around the globe. FTR: I am a Believer and calling out my own house, not simply taking cheapshots. )
Well! I'm a Christian musician into metal. A few of those forgotten Christian bands were actually pretty good. Considering CHM is a fairly small niche market very cool
You know I would agree and say yeah that is really cool and I can appreciate that. But when you're on that side and I'm on the other side because of division that your people created. My music is the death the children and yours is life to children. I'm not going to accept that nonsense so I gotta be more up front and vicious. Everything that metal is a bow comes down to self expression. It was a response to all the torture that was placed on children and the decades before and basically mocking you because we couldn't stop you and we still can't but we can mock you a good under your skin at least until we burn alive. It's funny too because it could be peaceful. But because of your fear we just can't seem to get you to get over yourselves. Christian music will never be any good because it's whitewashed and dumbed down. And we all know that that's not true self expression. If you could just keep it with gospel music I would accept it because there's a lot of beautiful music there. But when you try to take my music which retaliates to your false gospel we're only going to amp it up my friend.
@@soulkiss1001 I meant that at one time I was self-righteous and judgmental about all forms of heavy metal music. Today, though, I am excited that there are bands that have reached out to teens that are in the same shape they were once in to show them the love of Christ.
Sadly Roger, Teds guitarist Gary lenaire and Jimmy's bassist Brian are all sworn athiests now...judases all.. They went out from us because they were not of us ✝️

The quality of music from these bands can be easily put up against any non-Christian band. In fact, many of these musicians are still making incredible music today that is even better than they did back then. Most of their secular musical peers have either stopped making music or tragically passed away at a young age due to their lifestyle choices.
