This should be shown to all the people that dismiss Adam as a musical lightweight. He is an absolute master of sound and all the more brilliant for being self-taught.
Oh my goodness... To finally get a peak into his studio is a dream come true! When I first started making music all I did was listen to his music and pick apart every individual layer of the track and study it. He was my inspiration for every note I played 3 years ago. He taught me to expand my view on other artists to finally create my own sound! - Thank You Adam!
Crazy finding you here! You were my childhood, now I'm grown up and making music of my own, but I can't deny that you had a maaassive influence on me ehehe
so good! would love to see a tutorial on how you do your pads, they're always so nice and textured and pads in general are just really hard to do imo...
dude , this is fantastic ! , really great tutorial , I thought u used some kinda drum Machine and throw the samples there , but the way u arrange everything in the timeline its pretty amazing , it almost feels like someone hitting an acoustic drum kit and gettin' those sounds from it hahah , really cool !
i would love to see a whole series of adam just going through his tracks and explaining all the little details of what he finds interesting in his own music. so cool
Adam thanks a lot for the video. It's great to get tutorials from people professionally in the industry. Music is a passion of mine and it's great to see how similar my workflow is to yours. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! I've always wanted a tutorial from you! But what would be even more awesome than this is if you did a tutorial for your older style of music. (first 3 albums)
Thank you for sharing!!! This is honestly what keeps me inspired watching other artists and their obsessions with strange sounds. The oddest one I had was feedback from unplugging/replugging the mic whilst recording. Awful awful sound but ended up with a cool gravitational pull kind of sound! Xx
Amazing. Thank you for this video. It made me remember borrowing a tow-chain from the gas station next to our France Avenue studio in 1989; I dropped it onto a section of a Yamaha cymbal stand, capturing it with a simple 57 into a DSM-1 sampler, then layered it with a detuned reverse snare for live performance.
Came back to this video after he just did the fireflies breakdown to celebrate FIREFLIES DIAMOND!!! But i love watching these and Adam!! I really hope you do more!!! Right now SO EXCITED FOR ADAM, CHECK PLEASE ❤❤
You are such a hero, dude!!! Ever since I first heard you back when with the Fireflies track, I told all my buddies you were class. You really have cemented your talent with this years score projects! Thanks for being a huge inspiration, man!
holy crap this is so crazyyyyy! thanks so much for giving us some insight into how u put all these ‘ordinary’ sounds together and made music. WOW this is so cool, i wish there were more of these videos
Very creative with layering samples. I like the car trailer, I was literally beating on a simi trailer a couple weeks ago thinking this sounds as good if not better then my orchestral drums from my eastwest libraries. Thanks for the video very out of the box.
Hey man, epic you got these great results. Because of this video I actually bought a mic because I loved that bass drum so much :p Now, I'm wondering with what he hits the car trailer? Is it just with his bare hands or does he use a drum stick/mallet for it? What did you use? Would love to know :D
This is so awesome! I love how every little sound you don't really think about just casually listening to the song has a story behind it, it gives the music so much more meaning and individuality. Thanks, Adam!
I had no idea until I saw this tonight, how many layers of sounds, each with a fun story, go into Adam’s music. Seriously, I really hope he makes more videos like this. I posted this in the more recent Fireflies video too. But the sounds in Adam’s music connect with me in a way no other music does. I would love to learn more about how the sound is made so I can put into words what it is I like about it.
I'll have you know that this video led me to dropping an entire case of six thousand BBs on to my bedroom floor. They're everywhere. Oh. My Gosh. They're e v e r y w h e r e.
Collin Bartley, Yeah; I thought it would make a nice, hard shaker noise. I was right; after I cleaned it all up I was stupid enough to try again. The sample came out nice.
It's nice to see how the personality of each of the tracks can combine to a greater whole that brings you to a totally different place. Great tutorial!
It is awesome, even though I could be confused by Garage Band 😂 Just realized so many works and notes need to be polished again and again before you release it.
Umm.. I just discovered this today and I’m kind of blown away!! I already love the “Adam Young projects” but this makes you really appreciate just how much work goes into the music. Super cool process. It’s probably a lot of work, but you should def make more of these videos. Also, you’ve got a really great podcast voice lol
Love this insight into you production methods. Working with Field Recordings is really fun i imagine. That wooden drawer sound is great, I believe we have heard it before in tracks such as 'Setting Sail'? If you could find some time for more of such productions videos it would be very interesting. Best, MariusEJ, Denmark.
dude, this is incredible. i've loved your music since in june and have been producing since 2010, so getting a glimpse into your process is an absolute treat. more, please!
Yeah, been waiting for about 8-9 years for you to do something like this. Just as magical to see under the hood as it is to hear the "finished" project.
This is great. This so great... please make more ? It's funny Adam; listening to your first albums as Owl City and going to one of your live performances in Melbourne made me want to pursue music production. I've been inspired by deadmau5 since but recently you've been doing an amazing work with your scores. I listen to them on repeat and find new ways to improve my craft. And now you are making tutorials? All of my yes. Thank you so much for doing what you do Adam. I wish you the best.
One effect I would like to master is in your song Thunderstruck. At the very beginning, the synth you used sounds small and quiet, and fades up to becoming this big, full sound. That's something (as well as how you program synths in general) that I would LOVE to implement in my own music.
OMG how have I just found this now?? I'm actually in the middle of listening to Corduroy Road right now! It is INCREDIBLE to see the work that goes into this songs. You're right, Adam. They do sound like you. Amazing
I’ve listened to Owl City for a while now and I’ve always wanted to make something similar to what Adam makes but never had time to do it... I’ve learned so much from Adam’s perspective of life that it’s made me more open minded to everything and I can tell you that I’ve got much more to learn like many of you. To be able to take memories recorded on a device and then to cut them into fragments of just sounds for a song, plus giving them a purpose in the song for example being at church or simply biting an Apple to form a beat is just incredible and mind blowing. Doubt Adam will ever read this buuuut!! Thanks for continuing you’re music career, it’s made so many people feel bubbly and happy at so many odd stages in life. Hope 2019 is the year you come back to tour in the UK 🇬🇧. I know I’ve put a fair bit on here to read but I’ve been needing to say thanks for a long time 😅.
Adam! This is beyond inspirational, dude! I'm actually blown away that you put so much time into finding your own unique sounds for songs! Thanks for sharing and I'd love to hear more!
For a long time I would have given anything for you to be on the Song Exploder podcast. But this is SO much better! Thank you so much for making this!!!
ha. love this. I have a boss br-600 that's a great sample taker. been plugging the samples into either Iris 1 or 2, and going from there. love creating the sounds and I know it's stuff no one has heard before. thanks for the layering show.
as a non-audioproducer, I can say that this video is fascinating, probably because I think that your work since Early owl city its unique, and seeing behind the curtains on how does it look, how everything fits together and how it works it's so interesting. hoping to see more of your stuff in the future, already subscribed :)!
Thank you so much for this insight into your music production process! 😍 You have always been and especially are an example for unbelievable and unique sound scapes. I always wanted to know how you produce your music. I love the sound of your synthesizers and the emotion and mood you create with your instruments! Could you do more tutorials, please? ☺️
Thank you for doing this. I learn a lot from this. Hope we can see a few more tutorial from you on how you make your music. It gave me new insight on how to make music. Your music is great. :-)
Aah, been messing around with custom sampling recently and I love mixing it with synths just to get that organic/acoustic vibe in the middle of everything. The slapback and splash were really awesome! They really made nice build-ups to the beat. Now I know what to try next, heh.. Hope you'll continue doing these! Thanks!
I love stuff like this, hope you do it again as it's always nice to hear from you and to get an insight into your process is very humanising and thoughtful of you 🙂
A tutorial by Adam Young. Dreams don't turn to dust.

A tutorial by Flames Pond*
Mind-blowing. I appreciate the music so much more now :D
They *might* turn into tutorials
@@ptrdblmeterhaha
It's kinda crazy how every layer of the beat has its own back-story.
This should be shown to all the people that dismiss Adam as a musical lightweight. He is an absolute master of sound and all the more brilliant for being self-taught.
For those wondering, this song is "Shackleton" released as part of one of Adam Young's scores album, "The Endurance"
Can you imagine the percussion section if this song were performed live?
"I'll play the green pepper. Johnny's got the shotgun."
hahahaha, lol
I literally just learned so much about you in like 5 minutes.
dude same
If you don't know it, this is Shackleton off of The Endurance. If you don't believe me, go listen to it.
Holy smokes, it is!
holy crap it is!! wooooow
I was looking for this comment! Thank you!
That moment when you find a tutorial by your fave musician... Only one word. Rad.
This is why Adam has the most unique music on Earth.
Who knew that biting apples and ripping bell peppers could sound so good? haha
"This is the action on my shotgun." XD I don't know why, I just love hearing those words coming from Adam Young.

Biting an apple.

HMPH!
This was a really great watch, thanks so much for putting this together for us Adam.
Keep doing what you love, you've inspired my music so much.
Crazy finding you here! You were my childhood, now I'm grown up and making music of my own, but I can't deny that you had a maaassive influence on me ehehe
I love how he casually tells the world he has a shotgun, and goes yeah I use it for foley.
If you ever get tired of making music for consumers, you have a guaranteed career in sound design for film. This is superb
so good! would love to see a tutorial on how you do your pads, they're always so nice and textured and pads in general are just really hard to do imo...
wrld
Oh wow WRLD!
Alex Michael Music when u find a cool artist asking another cool artist for some pointers
I asked him once on Twitter about what he used for his pads and he said he really liked ES2 on Logic
woahhhh didn't expect to see you here

Very inspiring, and amazing tutorial! Thanks so much!
Wow, didn't expect to see you here. You also here from Reddit?
You should show us what Fireflies broken down looks like
Yes please!
Your dream came all these years later lol
@@potatopotatopotatopotatopo8746 only took 7 years :’)
Are you gonna do more tutorials? I really want to see how you make an Owl City song.
It's very comforting to know that when I listen to his music, I'm actually hearing sounds from his entire life.
Incredible, thank you for the insight. Hope you have time to do more of these in the future!
casually mentions shotgun.... nbd.
that's so badass dude
adams voice i love this man🙈😭❤️
I make music myself, and I started because of you. Thanks for making this, and I hope you make more!
i would love to see a whole series of adam just going through his tracks and explaining all the little details of what he finds interesting in his own music. so cool
At first, I thought this channel was not the real Adam Young until I heard his voice. lol
“See you next time”
Still waiting Adam
Adam thanks a lot for the video. It's great to get tutorials from people professionally in the industry. Music is a passion of mine and it's great to see how similar my workflow is to yours. Keep up the good work!

A Lucid Dream.

Wow, this is really fascinating. Thank you so much for making this, It's incredibly helpful

Even Skies Hi ho Even ;D Fancy seeing you here :3
we both love the city of owls so it is only fitting. x3
Honestly I see the owl city fan base in covers, remixes, scores, and inspired videos. We should all make a group on facebook or something 😂😂
I mean we all see each other in random comments on random videos I think a group chat or club would be awesome
This video is probably the most under appreciated thing in existence
indeed
Thank you so much! I've always wanted a tutorial from you! But what would be even more awesome than this is if you did a tutorial for your older style of music. (first 3 albums)
This is amazing! I wish I was as talented as you, dude. Could you maybe break down a few of your songs? I would love to see Umbrella Beach! Please? :)
Adam is a real musical genius , only less people could realize his awesomeness
"See you next time"
WHERE ARE THOU
Would love to see more.
Please do more of these, this was really cool!
Thank you for sharing!!! This is honestly what keeps me inspired watching other artists and their obsessions with strange sounds. The oddest one I had was feedback from unplugging/replugging the mic whilst recording. Awful awful sound but ended up with a cool gravitational pull kind of sound! Xx
'if it sounds good, it is good.' lotta folks have said that, but when i heard it coming from u, i remembered it
He knows his project files are as rare and diamondic as skrillex’s ableton files and he’s TAUNTING US
"The gratuitous dadadas I tend to do"
Hahaha that was hilarious
So interesting to watch, hope this will be like an ongoing series cos I loved this
