We are attempting to rebuild a late 70s early 80s Clinton 498 that was made in Singapore. We have discovered that the camshaft on ours is different from any of the Clintons you have shown. It has a spring Mechanism on the opposite side of the gear from the governor that connects to the first lobe. This has caused the first lobe to fail. We are wondering if you have any experience with these late-model Clinton engines? On these newer 498's do you know if the camshaft still drives out? Thank You

That’s probably a compression release, it bumps valve open to help turn engine over and then disengages once it is running
We cannot find the camshaft anywhere. Do you think we could use an older style 498 camshaft?
