- Join Chopped champion Brian Jupiter of Frontier and Ina Mae Tavern and 13-time James Beard Award-winning journalist Steve Dolinsky as we unveil a new national name and brand for Asian carp.
Asian carp is a mild-flavored, flaky fish caught in fresh Midwestern waterways. What we need now is a name that is as appealing as the fish tastes, so more people will eat it, restore our waterways and protect the Great Lakes.
There will be a live Q&A following the presentation. Email Jayette Bolinski at jayette.bolinski@illinois.gov to submit questions in advance.
Eat well. Do good.

Love this! I've been telling people for years that we need to eat silver carp more! It's a classic move of ours in the states to have a food fish go feral and then hate it simply because it becomes nativized and abundant in our local waters. This is a nice move to reset our attitudes. 👍
I have nothing against eating any carp, and definitely don't mind eating asian carp. BUT! I would never touch anything out of IL river. I challenge anyone to take a boat trip down the chicago canal without literally his gagging reflexes getting triggered.
Exactly
It's getting a lot cleaner! We saw a Beaver on the Chicago river while kaying the other day.
@@christophermartin-givens9849 maybe downtown, that still has some lake water. Once u hit the sewer, its nasty industrial output all the way to des plaines river. Would YOU eat fish out of IL river?
that's where the Poop goes.
@@christophermartin-givens9849 those are river otters. And that's because we stopped killing them for no reason and now they're allowed to be hunted again. F-ing sucks.
As someone who kayaks the canal/river often, I see a ton of these fish around. If it keeps them from banging into my boat, I will have no problem eating this fish.
Very into this. Would love to make some fried fish tacos with this
I have to admit, I’m in. I like the name. It’s catchy.
What is this? I quit at 5:00
Sure lets fish them right out of the poo canal south of the untreated water dumped in from the third most populous city in the United States of America. Great idea!
American marketing at its finest...
Meh, no thanks. Might as well eat goldfish.
Goldfish are more closely related to common carp (they can interbreed). So eating a common carp WOULD be more like eating a goldfish. Silver "Asian carp" though aren't closely related to the common carp or goldfish, and are filter feeders. So eating a silver carp is radically different from eating a goldfish. Take the time to learn more!
@@philaletha I couldn't care less. Maybe next time don't waste time responding to sarcastic comments on RUclips. You can have fun eating crap.
Huh? Just cause they named carp? People have no issues eating bottom feeders like crabs and lobsters. Heck, they'll it filters like muscles and oysters but find carps disgusting? Lol
@@Odin4President Huh, I don't eat none of the crap you listed...huh
Famine here we come.
