  • This is the first video in a series of campsite trailer tours. We visit our friends at campsites and ask them to give us a tour of their trailers. They show us the good, the bad, their modifications and storage solutions. Hopefully this gives you some ideas for your own trailer or for when the time comes to purchase a trailer.
    In this first episode we're giving you a tour of our travel trailer which is a 2017 Coachmen Freedom Express 254DSX.

    Thanks for the tours! You're right, it's nice to see them once they're lived in. Like you , I spend a lot of time touring trailers at shows or online, but it doesn't help determine what it's like when it's in use. If we see you for the 2024 season, you're welcome to tour our trailer :) happy camping 🏕

    Great video. Re the foam pads on the tip out. We found that they may have protected the base from moisture. We didn’t put them under the ‘guest’ end and it has moisture damage.

    My favourite part was the sticker to cover up the damage. I think next season you should do an episode where you ditch the trailer and use a tent, special edition of Roughing it with the Coles.

      LOL, Cheryl OVER PACKS LIKE CRAZY! She's a little embarrassed about it, so that's why she just gave a quick glimpse of the pantry and fridge. I had to bargain with her to even show the pantry for the quick flash she did show. I don't think we're the people to give advice on storage as we basically jam every nook and cranny with stuff. 😯🏕️

    Great video review. Thanks for all the videos you post which my wife and I use for planning purposes and tips as we are relatively new to the travel trailer world. We also love Josh and purchased our 2023 Freedom Express 274RKS based on his review. If you ever want to review our rig we are not that far from you. I really liked your idea of the metal battery box. Can you share where you got it from and how you fixed it to the frame please? I have the same issue with Lithium batteries and a lock box would be the perfect solution to protect them. Thanks for all you do.

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  6 месяцев назад

      We're glad you're finding our videos helpful. I got the metal battery box from Princess Auto www.princessauto.com/en/30-in-aluminum-truck-box/product/PA0009091422. I attached it to the framing that the original plastic battery box was sitting on. I used long u-bolts and drilled holes in the bottom of the box. I actually recorded it all with a plan to post the install but I haven't gotten around to it yet. It's nice having the batteries protected and also having some space to store a few things nice and secure. Happy camping!

    Great review of your trailer. I see you have filled up almost every inch of storage. Have you seen the movie, The Long Long Trailer? If you were to buy a new trailer, what would it be? We are thinking of selling our 2010 Keystone Outback 300BH and getting a couple's model like the new Cougar 25MLE but there are some things I don't like with new models such as, on demand water heater, solid steps, 12v only fridge.
    Other popular rv reviewers that haven't been mentioned here are Matt's RV Reviews and Myles RVs.

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  7 месяцев назад

      We sure do use every inch of storage. I'm forever trying to convince Cheryl to reduce, reduce, reduce but it's a loosing battle. We've seen the movie trailer for The Long Long Trailer but never actually watched the movie. We may sometime. We're with you on not liking some of the standard equipment with new trailer models. We were at the Fall RV Show in Toronto and could hardly find a trailer with an electric/propane fridge. They're mostly 12v only electric fridges, that will when boondocking use up the battery or batteries pretty quickly. I guess they figure most people only camp while plugged in.

    Love this video! We are fans of Josh the RV nerd also. We have lots of storage also in our Della Terra 230RB, but I never fill it! 😉 I was noticing your Oxygenics shower head. Do you have a video on that mod??

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  7 месяцев назад +1

      A 23 foot trailer and you never fill it...Cheryl could learn a thing or two from you! I put the Oxygenics shower head on within days of buying the trailer and that was a couple of years before starting our RUclips channel, so I don't have a video on it. It's as simple as unscrewing the original handheld unit, adding a bit of plumbers tape on the threading of the new unit and screwing it on. Go for it. Happy camping!

    Love your guys videos, we have a small 16 foot squaredrop trailer from OffGrid trailers and have thought about moving into something a little more spacious. What is your opinion on the build quality of your current trailer ? would you buy it again ? if so buy bigger or smaller or same length. See you guys out there !!

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  7 месяцев назад

      We're pretty happy with our trailer. We know that travel trailers don't have the same build quality as something like a new car. There is almost always some kind of warranty issue to deal with. It's just the nature of the beast. We love our trailer and wish they still built that model but we got the last model year. We would definitely buy an updated version of it if one was available. As for the size, we think it's a perfect size for us. We often camp with friends and it's a nice size to entertain another couple or two if needed during inclement weather. I wouldn't want to go any bigger as it would reduce the number of campsites available to us. Going smaller would be difficult because we are so used to the comfort of a trailer of this size. We are very happy with what we have. Happy camping!

    Thanks for the video! I purchased a snap pad for my tongue jack and am happy with it (well, perhaps the cost seems excessive for what you get), however I was unaware Snap Pad sold the same for the scissor feet. At $385, again it seems like a lot for this product, but it sure is a pain to throw down the plastic plates every time. How do you remove the existing feet from the trailer; mine's in storage now so I can't check but I thought they were bolted in (non-removable). Thanks Ben!

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  6 месяцев назад +1

      Instructions come in the package. You simply unbolt the original metal feet and bolt on the SnapJacks. I agree with you about the price. Seems pretty expensive for what you get.

I know you don't want to talk specifically about the camera behind the trailer, but I would like to know how it is connected to your camera mirror? is this wireless wifi? do you have a link for this camera mirror? Thanks in advance

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  5 месяцев назад +1

      When they gave me the camera system to try out, it was marketed for RVs. I tested it and told them about all the issues. I just had a look at their website and see that they are now marketing it for cars, not RVs. Here is a link so you can check out how it works: www.haloview.com/byte-tango-bt11-less-height-1080p-rear-view-mirror-backup-camera-system-with-bsd.html. They have other cameras marketed for RVs that work similarly with the over mirror monitor. You might want to check them out.

    Hey guys I just had a question about your interactive map on your website. I know you guys do car camping, but I think you guys missed some parks that offer it. Parks like Macleod, Arrow Lake, Silver Falls, Kap-Kig-Iwan, Ojibway, and Pakwash. These are all operating parks that offer car camping, and I was wondering if you guys are going to add them to your interactive map? (Also I made a comment a few months back on a different account about me working at Charleston Lake Provincial Park, and I just wanted to mention that again so you guys maybe consider stopping by again!)

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  6 месяцев назад

      Good catch on the website. I just checked out the list of parks that you mentioned and I don't know how I missed all of those when putting together the map. Those are some pretty far parks that we'll likely never get to, but they should still be on the map. I'll be adding them shortly. We definitely want to go back to Charleston. Not sure if we'll make it in 2024. We're still working out our plans for the season. If we do go, we'll for sure look you up.
