      Pray tell, what continent is Moscow located in?
      This has fuckall to do with foreign influence or what is best for these three countries as a whole, it’s just internal politics. By allying with Russia and Wagner the military juntas can get military help if their own people rebel against them, the price Russia asks for that alliance is renouncing the West.

    • @starsnoireart
      @starsnoireart 2 месяца назад +1

      @@gamlaman This isn’t all just due to Russians trying to mind-control Africans. Many African nations have become increasingly put off by the west because - to be frank - Western nations still belittle, disrespect and trivialize their existence. They also have a habit of pushing for exploitative deals, policies, and leadership within the continent that primarily benefits them.
      Russia on the other hand, while yeah they’re probably going to exploit these developing economies to some capacity - at this point, Russia just may seem like “the lesser of two evils” for some nations.
      Russia never colonized any African nation, they have yet to try forcing any African nation to align with their political ideals at the risk of losing aid money, etc. Africa sees Russia very differently than Western Nations do.
      The truth is that Western Nations have failed to maintain their image as reliable partners & allies for African development, to the point that some of those nations would just…prefer to work with Russians. Or at least that’s how I understand their relationship.

      Peace is a privilege. Nations rise and fall. That’s just how life works. Just because Africa is struggling now doesn’t mean it will in the future, and just because certain nations are privileged enough to not face similar problems as Africa doesn’t mean they won’t in the future.
      3 of West Africa’s greatest Kingdoms were erected close to or very near the same sahel regions that the AES occupies. There’s 0 reason to think that it couldn’t happen again.

    All three states became military dictatorships because the civilian governments, even with French military aid, failed to control jihadism.
    I have no doubt that the French forces were actually more effective in protecting French interests than in protecting the populations in these countries. They're probably not trying to get closer to Russia _per se_, but to get the help of Wagner, who will do what they get paid to do. Of course Russia will leverage the deployment of Wagner to gain geopolitical points.
    None of these three countries have significantly large populations or economies, so their unity or disunity is unlikely to have any global geopolitical impact. What is certain, however, is that any instability in these countries causes increased human suffering.

      This isn't necessarily a materially sound analysis, but I would beg to differ solely based on the extreme reaction shown by the West towards the Nigerien and Burkinabe coups. It was met with immediate denunciation, sanction, and threats of military force.
      Compare that to the reaction to the military coup in Gabon. It was a completely milquetoast, nonchalant reaction, as compared to that which they had Niger. Which leads me to believe that the putschists in Gabon are actually pro-US (which I think is slightly evidenced by the fact that Oligui has economic and real estate investments in the US, including real estate in the DC metro area), while the coups in Burkina and Niger are actually threatening to US geopolitical interests. You have to read inbetween the lines here
