Hans Zimmer understands Japan well. That's because this soundtrack deeply touches me, as a Japanese person. The reason I think this is a piece of music that expresses Japanese culture and atmosphere so well is because the entire music is enveloped in the distinctive Japanese rhythms and melodies, which are sometimes gentle and sometimes intense, like the gentle flow of a clear stream, and even the most delicate emotional fluctuations.

There's a lot of magic in his earlier scores. I think this, Driving Miss Daisy, Rain Man, Backdraft, even up through Drop Zone and Crimson Tide. I mean, Lion King is good, too! It's all good.
